As an employer, a lot of qualities that we want to see in a candidate with 0-2 years of experience is not only their knowledge but their attitude when they are given a question they don't know the answer to. Thank you for preparing the next generation of young engineers to enter this fantastic field!
@@MatPicardal thank you. I wish you had uploaded this video during my applying process. I actually got asked an engineering question about putting an opening in a cmu wall and answered wrongly because I thought it was a technical question.
Most likely similar to the ones in the video, but if you're in seismic zones, you can expect those also. Such as the ELF procedure, response spectrums, rigid diaphragm analysis, etc.
Have you written down your responses to commonly asked interview questions for your 1st or 2nd interview? if yes please make a video on it. Because as a recent graduate its very hard to develop those answers and tailored it back to your story and the industry.
You can find plenty of resources online on how to properly answer and make an outline of responding to those common questions. The hard part is tailoring it to your story, and that's different for everyone, because it's your experience. If you're having trouble finding experiences, recall group projects, or any volunteer projects, professional/student engineering organizations/competitions you participated in. And if you're not in any of those, that's one of the reasons to get involved. It helps build your resume and your experiences that you can talk about.
I think technical interview questions are becoming the norm now. My first ever interview for the job that I got hired for, I did an 40 minute exam where I got tested on statics, beam analysis and as well as analyzing drawings. I was totally not expecting that but luckily I answered it all correctly due to the solid foundation I had in those areas. So do prepare for everyone who's about to have interviews.
I have a structural interview in the coming Thursday and I am preparing for it. Any suggestions in terms of how to prepare for the interview? much appreciated.
@@billy4958 well, be your self and treated as if you were having a casual chat with your friend. Review your basic statics and all that technical stuff if you haven't already done so. Do some research about the company and cater your responses to that. Also don't be afraid to ask questions as well. Your ultimate goal is to show them that you are a good addition to their team both socially and technically. I wish you the best of luck.
@@MatPicardal Thanks Mat, love how you are using RU-vid as a platform to mentor new graduates as well as who currently working in the Civil/structural engineering field. Keep up the awesome work and thanks for all the help you do.
Im trying to get PE Structural but I am not yet in structural field. And it is really bothering me and overthinking if its worth it, got me into inconsistent studying. I only have structural resources.
I've applied for 2 internship positions (UK). Both companies asked me to do technical/logic/written tests. Wasn't expecting it at all but it was a good experience.
You should give Structural Engineering courses, I am Venezuelan working in New York for a Structural Consulting and a concrete Lab, I am currently about to take my FE Exam, I have worked in 4 different Structural Consultations and it has served me many tips that you leave here, thanks!
@@MatPicardal I would like to see courses by hand of steel design, concrete design and wood design, I would be a first student to see them from you, thank you!
I have been asked so many technical questions when interviewing for small companies. Large companies never ask those. But get ready to go as far as doing structural design problems when interviewing for a small company.
Hi sir good day. I'm abigail a civil engineering student in the Philippines would like to invite you as a guest speaker in our class because you inspired me, that's why i would like to share it to my classmates. I hope you notice me engineer. Godbless
I did many interviews, but failed in all of them, I lost the hope for getting any, even I have PE structure license but still working as QC, a stupid job.
got home from my 2 interviews today, i messed it all up, i feel weak around them lol i always passed their exam but maaaan interviews are the big bullies.
Is reo on the blackface of the retaining wall because the back face is in tension? Wouldn't the front face have reo as well for crack control? Just curious.
