In my 48 year career as an architect and architectural firm owner, I've only had one structural engineer call me up to request an appointment so that he could share his capabilities and demonstrate how he could best serve my clients and coordinate his services with our firm's overall design direction. Needless to say we retained his extremely exemplary services. I've always wondered why other engineers do not call upon architects for a sources of work.
Could you please explain how 2 planestrikes caused 3 tower buildings to collapse almost symmetrically leaving such little seismic impact on the world ?
My Junior period mistakes, trying to be precise. As a student i have always liked to do everything perfectly and precision was one of them. It took me a lot of time to understand that in Engineering specially Civil Eng. "precision doesn't exist". Safe along with economic and optimized design are what make a good structural engineer. May all you build last centuries.
Please do actual building project modelling ,analysing , designing A to Z using software like a etabs, by providing necessary information ,design calculations ,principals, we are really gratitude if you can do that service ,thank you,go ahead ,
Hy Brendan , you are doing an amazing job on all of your videos , Being a graduate civil engineer and a future structural engineer , You are an idol for people like me , who follows your step on every point of career , if you could make videos on how to progress the career into structural engineering from other fields , like a pathway to be a structural engineer , it would be great. thanks for the wonderful job , hope to meet you some day thanks
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. I'm in my fifth year of my structural engineer career. And now I'm heading from my job as a precast concrete Engineer to becoming an consultant at a consultant company in Sweden. It's a bit scary because I'm taking a big step in responsibility. But still really excited to learn more about structural engineering. Cheers 😊
Hey Brendan, Is it important to implement hand calculations or use software? And which software is good to design multi storey buildings, complex structures etc. Can you name any?
Hi Hassan, It is Important to know how to design/assess it by hand. As if you inputs the analysis incorrectly into the software you need a way to assess if you are correct or not. Software is import to know as well I have this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c4wm96hLSBc.html on the software that i reccomend
I just lost my way in structural engineering ~ cause the syllabus is really void and need really a good knowledge I really don’t know from where to start and how to start Damn man
Hi I am freshly graduated in civil engineering. I want to start career as structural engineer. Which softwares I should learn and any other advice about starting career.
Halo Mr Brendan, may i ask a question ? The mechanical electrical plumbing loads on house building structures, how much are those value that you ussually using on your project as a structural engineer ? Thanx before Mr Brendan..
Hey Brendam I just noticed that the subtitles are out of synced after 4 minutes from the start. Over all this was a very helpful video for me and learned quite a few things which really matters in our field of civil engineering. Thankyou subscribed!!!
Hi Snehank, Thanks for watching and your support. Also thanks for letting me know about the subtitles, else are automaticly generated I will need to look into how to fix this.
@@BrendanHasty the automatically generated subs are working fine and are well synced but the subtitles under the section "" English(United Kingdom) "" they don't match with the audio , check after 3:53
Hey Brendan, Great and informative video. In your opinion what is job satisfaction as a structural engineer and what is work/family balance like? Are there personality types that are better suited for the profession? Thank you!
Hi Jenelle, Thanks for watching. For a structural engineering you need to enjoy solving problems, Math and physics from this you can get good job satisfaction with the right company. As for work/life balance that is something you need to manage as there will be always something that need to be done, and when passionate about engineering you can end up working a lot. Engineering is good for a range of personalities as there is a several areas your career can take you, watch this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uNu_kJskm44.html for clarification, to enjoy engineering tho you need to like maths and problem solving. Any topics you want me to cover let me know.
Hi Lenauim, site experience is always good. tho if possible I would recommend getting some design work first, as it will help consolidate your knowledge.
What are the suggestion would you give for indian students who are planing to study structures in Foreign counties and to start their career by doing job.
Look at the paths, from engineers Australia. Getting you first position will be that hardest. Also, looking for positions at big companies that have offices in India, they may allow you to get a good reference to help you in the door.
Hello sir... please make one video on selection of joints (pinned or fixed) in some specific steel structure or portal frame. Also the precise location of bracing bay in frame structure. Thanks....
Hi Sokheng, I have my laptop linked in the description, however it will depend on what software you are running. unless you are doing complex stability analysis or FEA models you don’t need a very powerful computer.
Hey Tig K, I have done a lot of post-tensioned designs. Ranging from typical floor slab, transfer slab and some deep transfer structures. I can cover post-tensioned in future episodes if you are interested?
Greeting from Mongolia. I am a structural engineer, loving to watch your RU-vid channel. Thank you for doing it and sharing your knowledge and experience all over the world.
