Granddaughter got her initial BS in History. Two days of practice teaching proved to her teaching was not for her. Now, July 2020, she is 85% through (due to Covid19) a 12 month ABSN. She has a 4.0 and was just asked by one of her profs to do nurse residency at a major Houston hospital in L&D. I am a bit proud!
I just got accepted to a 12 month ABSN program starting in November. I’m 52 and have a BA in Environmental Science. I loved my prerequisites and I’m really excited to get started!
Congratulations Ellen!! How's it going? I'm starting late myself from BS Business and just finished AP I and onto AP II in couple weeks. Hope you're doing great! keep it up. Where are you taking your ABSN program?
barbara henley Thanks! I’m about halfway through the program. It is fast, but I’m enjoying it. I’m taking pediatrics and research right now, and I’ve finished all the medsurg/adult nursing. Now I’m just waiting to get back to clinicals!
I got into a BSN Pathways program with a 2.6 on a 3.0 requirement. It’s all about how you present yourself in your personal statement, explain your academic gremlins, ENTRANCE EXAM SCORES and have B’s in your Bio and Chem classes. I got B’s in all of those and absolutely KILLED my teas and scored in the top 95 percentile. They’ll overlook some negatives if they feel you have Potential and really care about nursing as your career choice. I failed Anatomy 1 three times before I got serious about school and passed, anyone can do it if you put in the work!
Thank you for sharing your nursing journey and congratulations!! I feel so much better and will try aim high on the teas exam and do better in A & P classes! Thank you for the encouragement and many more blessings to you ❤
Currently doing my ABSN and it’s a lot of work!! But I’m already halfway through my first semester and it feels like I started yesterday! Can’t believe how quickly time has flown. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go down the ABSN route but I’m SO glad I did!
I willl be starting an ABSN program in november.... bit scary because i dont want to screw anything up. I am a full time working mother of 3 with a husband.... pray for me, eeeeeek!
I graduate with my BSN in 17 days!! My accelerated nursing program went from January 2018 to December 2018!!! It is a intense program but totally worth it
Thank you so much for this video. I am just starting. I am actually gathering transcripts and other paper work for the adviser to see what prerequisites I haven't completed. Your video was soo encouraging. I am 60, finished my bachelor's in 2016. I am planning on entering the accelerated BSN. I want to spend my retirement as a volunteer nurse with a mission organization.
Ah this is so inspiring! I am 49, got a BS in Business 22 years ago and have been finishing my pre-req's for the past couple of semesters. I have often second guessed my decision to do this based on my age. I want to work for 10-12 years and then volunteer as well! I hope you are doing well in your program. God bless!
I was officially accepted in my ABSN program on Wednesday!!! I start this May and it is a 15 month program, so I graduate in august 2020! Liz thank you so much for this video...I too will be working while doing this program so finding out there are others who worked too makes me feel a little better. I am so glad bumped into your channel and I am excited for this next chapter in my life.
I’m 30 and work in civil engineering, got my bachelors and masters in it. I was always sure that I didn’t want to do it forever. I feel so fortunate that I learned about nursing and realized it’s what I want to do. I’ve been taking prereqs for a year and should be ready to apply for ABSN programs in a year or so 🙌
I’m watching this today because I got accepted to an ABSN program coming spring and I’m super excited. It’s a 16 months program. I’ve struggled all through the prerequisites and I can’t wait to start and be a bad ass CRNA in future ! Also a new sub here 😮❤❤
I've been going through a lot lately and I'm about to go into an accelerated BSN program within the next year. I totally had my doubts and this video was soooo helpful and positive. I feel so much more motivated. Thank you!
Hi Liz! I am CURRENTLY in an Accelerated BSN program at UCONN, and it is an 11-month program. We just finished our second semester, and boy do I wish I had watched a video just like yours before I started this program! I was reassured that I could get into the program because of the necessity of a previous bachelor's degree in any field, as long as your GPA was 3.0 or higher. My previous Bachelor's was in Fine Arts, and while that doesn't seem like it correlates, I have been a CNA for many years and that experience has paid off so much. It is very intense, and I agree with you that even 18 months would seem like too little time to process all of the information needed to know to be a competent nurse! I had to quit working altogether this year in order to pursue my dream of becoming a Pediatric Nurse, and I can't believe I'm already 2/3 of the way through the program! I love your videos and my overall goal is to become a Pediatric NP, so I really have been enjoying watching your NP videos! Thank you for posting these videos about nursing, as I am sure it is so helpful for those who are considering going into the nursing field!
There are a fair amount of people working and going completing this program. If you have to do it, you have to do it. No one can make that call for you but yourself, and don't feel like you're being pressured into quitting because of this program. I would like to say though, that you should definitely have a good sense of how much you can handle working and studying, attending class (a 9-hour class day, 2 9-hour clinical days) and various labs throughout this program that offer very little leeway in terms of adaptability. There are make-ups, but they tend to be on the weekend and in Storrs. This is such a short program so you have to be focused, but if you know what you can handle, you can keep working without any problems.
I watch many RU-vid videos and I am not sure about how long you’ve been doing RU-vid, however, this video was one of the best ones I’ve ever watched! It was so efficient, and made 18 mins feel like a genuine conversation between us two. Thank you so much for your insight, this was very helpful!
I have an app on my phone I use daily to keep up my skills. I have plenty of chances to practice in-person as well especially since I live in South Florida...
I graduated as a Spanish major as well! Whoohoo! I don’t use Spanish much here in MS like I should so my Spanish is super rusty 🙄 but I’m looking for an accelerated program! 😀 and looking to take my pre-reqs soon in 2019!!!
After graduating Cum Laude from Aggieville, youngest granddaughter took prerequites at a community college Blinn and volunteered at an animal shelter. She applied and was accepted to five nursing programs. She chose the shortest, a ABSN lasting 11 months 8 days. She is halfway through and today I had the privilege of paying for two NCLEX RN study guides. I did the same for other granddaghter when she got har masters from TAM. We are making hotel reservations for graduation Dec18, 2020.
Love your videos Liz! I'm a Paramedic with 2 associates degrees who will also be pursuing nursing school next fall and do EVENTUALLY want to be a physician. It is sometimes weird being much older in my courses but your videos make me feel significantly less awkward about it! Thanks for all that you do
I’m graduating with my bachelors in biology in 10 days... I did my BS in 3.5 years, I got accepted into an ABSN program (16 months).... I’m sooo excited
I turn 25 next month and I graduated with my BBA in 2018. I currently work in Aviation and quickly realized it just was not for me. I should've gone with what my gut told me in high school 10 years ago when I thought I wanted to be a nurse. 15 year old Morgan was scared and not near as confident in her abilities. But, here I am starting the application process now to hopefully begin in January 2022! *Fingers Crossed*
I'm seriously SO glad I found your channel, especially this video! I had been struggling deciding what I wanted to do as a career. It was pharmacy first, and then I decided to major in biology first before going to pharmacy school, and then once this past spring semester came around, I realized I didn't see myself being happy with pharmacy...especially going to school another 3-4 years studying something I probably won't like in the end. I work in a pharmacy now and although I don't mind working there, I wanted a more fulfilling and rewarding job. I had never thought about being a nurse because I immediately jumped to the conclusion that I wouldn't be good at it or diligent enough. I started to think about nursing more when I was in the hospital for a few days... the nurses and home care nurses were so great to me and I loved talking to them about their experiences they've had! I was talking to one of my friends who just graduated nursing school and she said her school has a 2nd degree BSN program that's only 15 months! I already applied so once I get in, I'll be starting next fall and I couldn't be more excited :) I feel so much more motivated knowing that I'll be studying and learning something I can use to truly help people!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm currently a teacher but I've decided to go to nursing school in an accelerated program. I'm starting to doubt myself a lot. Am I smart enough? Can I do it? I don't know anything about nursing.... blah, blah, blah. What you said really spoke to me.
3 years and I just found this video! Amazing ❤️ this is honestly just what I needed to hear. I’m in my second day of the program and I’m already freaking out! However, you reminded me relax, stay organized and take it one day at a time. 💕 Thanks you so much!
I have a BA in Theater Arts. I'll be 50 in May and have finally figured out what I want to be when I go up... well sort of. At first, I thought about being a nutritionist but decided I wanted to broaden my scope so then I thought about PA school. Now, I think NP would be a better fit so next step nursing school. Hoping to apply to an ABSN program next year. But for now, I am knee deep in pre-reqs and should probably be studying for my upcoming A&P exam instead of commenting here. :) Thank you, Liz, for letting me live vicariously through you as I toil away. I especially LOVE your Vlogs.
I'm 64 with a BS in Chemistry from 1986. Finishing Physio now, with Micro next semester then ABSN applications at UNR, Samuel Merrit, Wm Jessup, USF, and the local community colleges. In the Sacramento area, applications are about 10 to 1 for seats in community colleges- they are on a lottery system once you have multi-criteria scores with >70-75 out of 100.
Hi Liz!! I just came across your channel a few days ago and I’m obsessed lol! I changed my major from accounting to nursing after my first year of college (during an accounting internship) and I’ve been taking nursing pre-reqs non stop since last fall! Everyone said I was crazy for trying to take 2 years of pre-reqs in 2 semesters, but somehow I did it and I’m getting ready to take the HESI in 2 weeks!! I’m applying for an accelerated BSN program and I’m super anxious and stressed lol This video was super informative and really just calmed my anxious heart because it made me realize I’m almost there!!!
Thanks needed this I have a BS and MS in bullshit studies I’m looking into nursing luckily I only need micro, chem and college algebra because years ago I started taking pre reqs for nursing but changed my mind
I’m currently in a BSN program. It takes two years to complete it and I do not have a bachelor. Fall and spring semesters are pretty chill honestly. Summers are shorter and we still take the same amount of units. So those are CRAZILY overwhelming.
Ah thank you for this video, Liz! I totally agreed when you said accelerated nursing programs are kind of a mystery because I feel like a lot of people don't talk about this type of nursing school (especially on RU-vid!) I am definitely going to keep going back to this video while I am applying to my accelerated program next fall! The suggestions you gave for writing your personal statement were genius because I never thought to include the nursing school's values in the personal statement especially because my #1 choice will be a Christian nursing school so incorporating those values are extremely important! love your honesty yet encouraging attitude! Thank you so much for this video! :) P.S. I hate discussion boards too! LOL
You are so sweet, thank you for the encouragement! That sounds like it would definitely to be good at that school! Best of luck with your applications! You'll do great!
When you have to choose between a high gpa, a social life or work, I agree with choosing the high gpa and work. You can accommodate the social life with study groups.
Hi Liz, I’m currently in an accelerated nursing program. I’m so excited but nervous about having responsibilities (job, family, and a life). Thank you for reassuring me that I can still do this! I was wondering how long were your sessions/semesters?
Priscilla Taylor they were the standard semester length. 14 ish weeks I think? You can totally do it! Organization will be your best friend but it sounds like you are already rocking it!! Great job!
So glad I found your channel! Your vids are very helpful...I’m applying for an ABSN program in a couple of years after a 24 year career in the Marine Corps. I’ll have to refresh the science classes since I graduated in (gulp) 1999, but I’m so stoked. Planning to refresh the sciences at my local community college before applying.
Thank you! This was SO helpful even from 5 years ago... I majored in Psychology but bounced around different majors throughout undergrad (Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology). So I had a great, well-rounded background. I am excited to finally figure out my "path" and purpose. While it may not be as fast or smooth as some of my peers, I am grateful for the detours and I am choosing to trust God's timing.
Omg!!! I’m 24! I have a BACHELORS in Sociology however I’ve been working in health care for two years. I dropped out of graduate school and I’m going back to school for nursing. Smh 😂
I'm currently in an ABSN program, I just graduated in May with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I'm documenting my ABSN journey here on youtube!
Thanks Liz - I am 48, I have been working in Healthcare finances for 17 years now. I felt it was time for a change and decided to take my prerequisites and give nursing a chance. I applied to two schools offering accelerated nursing programs and both accepted me which is exciting. However, my age is making me reconsider this. I don’t know if graduating being almost 50 is a good idea. Any piece of advice? I would greatly appreciate it.
Hi, I just got accepted into the accelerated nursing program, I begin Sept 2021, it's a 2 year program. I have two kids and my husband works a lot, so hoping we can all manage okay. :)
Granddaughters 12 month ABSN course accepted approximately 110 students 1800 applied, 200 received interviews. 7 months in 80 are left. Some that left program were placed into traditional nursing course. She is so fortunate; has such a supportive hubby and has terrific grandparents Ha. All course work will be finished before the last semester because of Covid. Last semester- clinicals, job hunting and NCLEX study grad 12/18/2020.
I am planning to do this, but I need to take my prerequisites, m not sure whether I should do it online or from community college? When I look at online option there are 6-7 courses I need to do n when I look at community college option they require you to do a lot more. They require you to take entrance exam, TOEFL(since my education is from outside US) n then m required to do prerequisites in order to do prerequisites for nursing. I really want to do this, but I feel this is but confusing n complicated for me right now. Anyone who’s done it from community college, could you tell me how long does it take to complete your prerequisites from there? I am 30 right now n mother of two beautiful daughter, I really want to have an identity and a good career. I really want to work towards this but my experience in terms of communication between me n community college staff had not been that good. They are kind of laid back when it comes to responding to my questions. I really hope m able to do it.
Look into online studying for the prerequisites and testing for them at clep.collegeboard.org/exams These are specifically going to help you acquire these prerequisites faster. When you are ready to test for Toefel, I suggest you find the material on youtube and study guides you could test for that too. It's a long journey but it will be worth it especially if you decide to pursue higher education, you'll be a step ahead with the prerequisites. Alternatively go to a private school take an rn, then go the rn bsn route but you could require prerequisites for it (not sure)
Oh my gosh your story/path could not be more related to mine. I am a senior in college, I thought I wanted to be a doctor and then decided that what I truly want to do is nursing for some of the same reasons you explained in one of your other videos and I am also a psych major that is considering an accelerated nursing program. Thank you so much for doing this video and for your channel in general it's so rare here on RU-vid information on ABSN programs. I am so happy I found your channel you're truly an inspiration :)))
I love your great sense of humor...and like you said, I'm not starting in my 20s to become a nurse but I'm starting my accelerated nursing program at Aspen University and am so excited!! Thanks for the awesome videos 🙂
Hi Liz! Thanks so much for your channel-it’s so informative and fun. I’m graduating coming May with a music degree (violin) AND starting an accelerated program like two weeks after graduation! Kind of scared but I’m excited🥰 fun fact: one of the clinical sites of the nursing school is the hospital I was born in!
I am in an accelerated program. Very intense. The program is two years and we have a new term every ten weeks no breaks in between terms. This is a third degree for me. I have a bachelors and a masters.
Hi Liz, I am looking into becoming a nurse through an accelerated program. I am so happy I had stumbled upon your video it was very helpful and am looking forward to taking my prerequisites to begin a new path in my life.
Edyn I agree!! It's late in CA and I stumbled across Liz video today after getting tired of the ASBN application at the point I needed to manually enter every grade from my BS in Business so took a break to you tube and loved finding her video! Good Luck to your adventure!
OMG!!! I am in LOVE with your videos already. I’m graduating in May 2019 with my bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies. I too originally wanted to be a doctor, but I also realize I want to be a mom. And a doctor schedule is so demanding I think I would get in the way. So I changed my major my junior year, and I spent the last year and a half working completing the prerequisites and classes for a bachelor’s. Now I applied at University of Mobile accelerated nursing program which is 12 months! I’m excited and nervous!!! Like I don’t know what to expect or if I can handle it. I’ve done summer school which we complete a 6 month classes in 4 weeks so I’m assuming/hoping it would be the same as this. Congratulations and good luck to everyone.
Wow! I love your channel! I am starting an accelerated hybrid doctor of physical therapy program in January, so I started a vlog channel to document the experience. I will definitely be visiting your channel throughout my program!
Absolutely love your videos and have been listening to them while I’m at work! I’m about to start my nursing prereqs next semester with the intent to apply to ABSN programs and I’m so excited! I have a degree in architecture (currently working in healthcare architecture, designing hospitals, etc.). Been working in this field for the past 3 years and really don’t feel like sitting at a desk 9-5 is what I was meant to do my entire life. I’ve always had an interest in medicine and used to love hearing about my mother’s experiences at work (she’s an RN). It’s going to be tough, but I think the fulfillment I’ll feel from attaining and utilizing practical, life-saving knowledge will be so worth this transitional period.
Thank you for watching them!! What an interesting background! And kuddos to you for following your gut and making a change! That is no easy thing to do!
I majored in Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Psychology. I watched this video when I was applying to my ABSN! I'm almost halfway though my 18-month schedule (but really, a 15 month program with some breaks thrown in between). It's amazing how much material we go through in just a week. I have a lot of respect for people in 12 month programs, because I feel like I'm memorizing hundreds of pages of information and dumping it out of my brain every week after our exams.
25 yo Mechanical engineer here. Started sitting at a desk for 8.5 hours a day in May and decided that this was eating away at me. Whole family are nurses (dad, mom, brother, sister in law, 2 cousins) and was honestly trying to make my own path but I can not deal with staring at a screen, not talking to anyone for the whole day.
Hi Liz! I'm a current sophomore health sciences major and I decided that I want to become a CNM/FNP a couple months ago. I've been looking into accelerated nursing programs recently and was terrified. I was SO scared and confused about so many things, but your video gave me hope and clarity! I'm so glad I found your channel, it's the best!!
Youngest grandaughter who was married yesterday Nov 2 2019 graduated from Texas A&M cum laude with a history degree in May 2018 Then she took a year of sciences and applied to Five nursing colleges. She was accepted by all five and is entering the U of Houston accelelerated 11 month 8 day nursing school in January, 2020. The program has a 100% graduation rate for the past three years. New husband (Engineer) now works 8 miles from his job has decided to move to Sugarland to reduce stress and travelling time for his wife.
Nurse Liz Thank you for these videos. She is carrying 4.0 GPA. Today starts her 3d semester of four. Grad date 12/18/2020. Due to covid they had to stop clinicals. Think they will start them anew in Sept. last week she and hubby bought a house due to be finished in December so December will be extra special.
I want to get into an Accelerated BSN program so bad but I’m so scared to death. I originally went to undergrad as a nursing major but I had to switch because my grades started to slip. I graduated with a psych degree 2 years ago. I was sent to the hospital a few weeks ago with severe internal bleeding and I was so amazed by the team of nurses that took such great care of me. I haven’t been able to stop rethinking my career path ever since. The nurses told me it’s a hell of a commitment and working hard, but it’s worth every minute of it. As badly as I want to try nursing again, I feel so scared that I will get rejected or I won’t pass my classes again 🙁
i have been accepted into an accelerated program for my BSN! it is not for others with a "different major", it was just a program my school did for those who wanted to finish quick and it offered an employment contract and scholarship. i have a 4.0 but im very concerned about the timing. I have aced all of my prereqs but it scares me to think of a condensed program with clinicals and such. thank you for the video! i start in may and this reassured me.
omg liz i love your videos i’m a senior in high school and i wanna go to an accelerated nursing program after i finish my general ed in college your videos really helped a lot about what to expect and really cemented nursing as a career i want to pursue 💞💞💞
Hi Nurse Liz, I truly appreciate and loved your video. I came across your channel searching for BSN related videos. I competed Human Developmental Studies as a bachelors and now looking into the accelerated BSN and I thought your videos was great. Applying for it this fall and I pray that I get into it. Will update you 🤗
Thank you so much for this video! This is so helpful. I’m going to third year at my universities, and I just decided to go into nursing and is looking into accelerated nursing program. This video gives me an ideal of what it is. I love your channel!
Hello Liz hope all is well! I just got accepted into an accelerated program this month for spring 2020. It’s a 12 months long; I have 4 months to start I’m starting to freak out already. Thanks for your videos they’re awesome
i became a teacher because i was afraid i would fail at nursing school....now here i am at the ABSN program video looking at finishing prereques this summer so i can apply.
Just about to get my BS in Psychology and I am going back to school to finish those Anatomy and Physiology classes to apply to nursing school. I am excited!
awesome! Psychology seems to be a super popular major for people looking to go into nursing! Good luck in your pre-reqs! Once you beast through those it gets so much better!
I needed to hear all this. thank you!!! Nursing is something Ive def always wanted to do and recently re enrolled in CC and have been extra stressed out just having a bunch of questions and thoughts a lot of people cant really answer. But you answered them all. Made me even more confident and aware that I can do it its all up to me just got to organize my life.
It’s getting friggen real. Just saw on my credit card the $200.00 charge for the NCLEX test. She graduates in 38 days from a year ABSN course. A few dropped out through the program or were put into regular BSN program. Since 2017 they have had a 100% NCLEX pass rate.
I'M in an accelerated Nursing program offered at a university but it's an accelerated ASN/ LVN course 17 months so it's offered through a UNIVERSITY and it's intense and also fully engrossing in the Nursing science. they have a 98% N.C.L.E.X. rate so that's cool. thank u for these video's. I'm in southern California by the way so I had to really look around because there are a ton of LVN schools in Southern California, I had to shop around. i don't think 17 months is bad at all. and yes it's a five-day-a-week program.
Currently facing the wake up call of realizing I want to be a nurse two years into college! I'm in the middle of transferring to the local community college that has a great two year program, then while working I plan to apply again back to the school I'm correctly in for the ASN to BSN program. My life is a handful right now, but I have to thank you for clearing things up!
Youngest granddaughter was just accepted into a 11 month 8 day Acclererated BSN 2d degree into the university of Houston. Oct 4 2019. She will start Jan 2020. Thanks for this video as it explains so much to me.
That's a LOT of prerequisites! Especially for someone who has a bachelor's in something other than science. So it's not 'really' something you can "jump right into".
