Vlog 45 about the questions encountered during a PhD interview in the Netherlands. This video will give you a partial overview of the questions encountered during a PhD interview in the Netherlands. This is a Skype recording with a Masters student from Germany, Sagar Bhagwat who has his final round of PhD interview at TU Delft next week and had some questions regarding that. As this was my first Skype recording, so the audio and video quality is poor. So, please forgive me especially for bad audio. From next time I am planning to use a good quality microphone for recording the audio but recording internet calls is always tricky!

Hallo SambitPhD, I receive an one-hour PhD interview (this Thursday) invitation in social sciences in Netherlands. This project has already a proposal. It is the first round interview, but I am already invited to go to the campus (costs reimbursed) and meet the supervisors. I am informed that I will be asked about my previous research (which is very relevant to the project on this position) and talk about my thoughts on the project. Based on these, I would like to kindly ask: 1) will this likely be the final interview or is there a large chance that I should expect further interviews in the future? 2) What other interview questions shall I expect and prepare for according to your experience?

First of all good luck for your interview! Yes, as it is on-campus so there is a higher chance that it is the final round of interview if there is no other department or industrial partner involved. If they are involved then you might have another round with them later. Well I guess most questions will be around your previous research and relationship with the current research project. Some fundamental questions to see whether you can handle pressure, fit in the PhD, what are your expectations from the PhD. Try to be precise and try to answer to the point and also how can you bring into action your research interests in the context of the current research project. Also, try to think already few research questions in your mind on the research you have already done and on the research you are going to do in the future! Good luck again :)

Hi SambitPhD, another question: what and how many questions does an applicant normally ask? I am preparing for about 8 -10 question. Are they too much?

@@ningchang2523 No, normally they give you time to ask questions. It depends on how much time they give you. Should be okay 👍

Hey, how are you? I applied for a project which has already a proposal also. However, I received a case study with five questions to answer 3 weeks ago and I am still waiting for their e-mail response. Have you ever had that interview?

Hey, I've applied to an open PhD position (in psychology). I had to submit a proposal already as part of my application. Based on my proposal, motivation letter and CV they have invited me for a first interview. They wish to just discuss my application and motivation with me in this round of interview. Do you know what questions I could expect specially in the Dutch context?

I think this video already has some examples! You can prepare something like: the relation with your thesis and the PhD proposal or application, what do you think of doing in a PhD or what does a normal PhD life look like? What is the main research question that you are already tackling or You will tackle during your PhD? Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to get all updates!

Hi SambitPhD, thanks for your informative video! After submitting my application to an open PhD position from TU Delft for 10 days, I got an email inviting me for a 30-min interview next week, which included a 10-min presentation (short self-introduction + related research experience + motivation/career plans). Would you interpret it as a highly positive, positive, or normal sign? :)

Hey I have completed my masters from Moscow Aviation Institute , Moscow, Russia. I want to know at what level are the russian degree evaluated in delft for phd admission? How many research publications they expect us to publish before applying?

I don't have that much idea on how the Moscow degree translates to that of Netherlands but I have heard people from Moscow coming here to study.

Sagar make your channel tooo phd is not simple we need lots of guideline from you like guyz. Because you belongs to germany might be the process lil bit a change from netherland.
