Anna!! What a great way to prepare the sausage. I am 3rd generation Polish living in the US. When my father was ill he wanted some of the foods of his childhood, but my grandmother and her sisters were no longer around. But I found your recipe for czernina and made it for him. He said it was very close to how his mother and grandmother made it. It made him very happy. So, thank you for sharing your recipes and for demonstrating how to prepare them.
The good old British Black Pudding and the wonderful Spanish Morcilla are great blood based sausages but the majestic Kaszanka is king of them all! Yummy!
@@jonathansoko1085 I beg to differ. A full English breakfast wouldn't be the same without the humble black pudding. Steak & kidney pudding is another example of a wonderful dish from Britain. However, each to their own. If it's not your cup of tea then so be it! 😛
@@jonathansoko1085 As I said before, each to their own. Perhaps try to be a little less judgmental? Beauty is, after all, in the eye of the beholder. So what is your favourite cuisine?
So "Who Stole the Kiszka?" You better believe it was me and my parents back in the day. My mother made this regularly, in many ways. Love when it gets crispy for breakfast, with eggs. Also loved it just cool on rye bread. Difficult to get out here in Las Vegas, only one Polish deli, other side of town. Your cooking it brings back memories, thank you.
Yashoo brought it back😂😂😂 I know spelling is not correct bcuz my mom never taught me but I surely remember a lot from my youth…such fond memories…ty for that musical line…
Somebody call the cops!! We only had kiszka on holidays growing up but I live in a different state now. Whenever I go back home or family visits me we make sure we end up with some. I recently found this channel and I love it. Thank you Anna!!
Erie Pennsylvania has a good size Polish community. Every time we travel home (from South Carolina) we visit one of our favorite butchers who makes it and bring some back. I make hash brown potatoes and put this over top along with a fried egg or two. Rye or pumpernickel bread and half sour pickles round out my favorite brunch. I can almost smell it right now. Sadly I don't have any kizka right now. Time for a road trip.
Anna, I Love Kiszka / blood sausage fried slow and still in the ring and then put Heinz Tomato Ketchup on it. I could eat the whole ring. WOW do I miss this. Hard to find in Pittsburgh, Pa. So Glad I found your Channel. We do have a Polish store in Pittsburgh. every thing Polish !🥰 My Dad's Mother and Dad both came from Poland, Thank GOD, I'm Polish !
I LOVE Kiszka!!! My late uncle had a Kielbasa/Butcher Shop in NewJersey and he made it perfect. I bake mine in the oven, then eat it cold the next day. That’s my favorite way of preparing it. And it’ll last me several days because it’s so hearty. A couple of chunks makes a nice appetizer. This is definitely Winter-time food because it’s so filling.
Too funny - I started commenting “my recipe” on how we used to eat Kiska on Sunday after Church in the 1960’s at my Grandparent’s apartment in Chicago - only to see you make our secret family recipe.
I love kiszka fried. Dad and i were the only 2 in the family who ate it. My son got me your book for xmas which i got today January 26th. I love it so many things for me to make and take me back to my childhood.
That is the first time I have heard it called kazanka. We called it Kiszka. We grew up in Milwaukee,Wisconsin with many polish butcher shops and delis. Haven’t had it for years. Going to find some tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
I had some Kiszka just yesterday that I bought from Bacik. It's not an item that you can fund in the grocery stores in Tennessee! I love it. Takes me back to my childhood in our Polish neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio.
We always ate it with rye bread with butter and mustard on the side. We don't take it out of the casing, we saute it on a pan with a little butter and oil until the skin gets crispy!
My Mother used to ❤ fried Kiszka on rye bread, not sure she added the onions or not 🤔 (that’s the only name we called it) me & my good friend used to enjoy it cold actually 😋 not too much of it but every once in awhile we’d enjoy a bit of kiszka cold. FYI it was/still is pretty readily available in the Chicago area. 😁
We ate this for breakfast growing up in Chicago. Still love to eat it but now cook it until crispy! P.S. My daughter lives in Stevens Point. What a small world!!!
LOVE kiska!!!! My favorite way to eat it was to slice it and crisp in a pan and mix in a little ketchup and eat with seeded rye bread!!!! My parents didn't appreciate me mixing in ketchup but it was delicious to me. I would love to buy it again, but now a days I can't find a clean source of kiska because in the old days the food was better quality in Chicago. P.S. My Christmas recipients of your cookbook were so excited to receive it!! Happy New Year.
This is anytime food! OMG I love to cut the sausage in thin circles but cook them and keep their shape with spicy horseradish or whole grain mustard❤❤❤❤❤
I LOVE Kiszka! Fried onions and buttered bread. A must for Christmas breakfast, but anytime is a delicious meal. I remember making this with my father as a child.
Happy New year to you Anna, Mark and Hanna🎉‼️. So good to see you again and looking forward to more adventures in your kitchen and out & about. Thanks for all the delicious memories
Blast it! I wish I'd have paid closer attention the last time I watched this video. I too am an American of Polish decent and I like kaszanka quite a bit. Needless to say, I enjoy it cold, and hot. Last week when I had it, it was with eggs. But now, I've got to try it this way, with onions on bread.
I’m in Scotland and here we have black pudding (sometimes known as blood pudding) which, is everywhere throughout the UK. I brought two big Kaszanka back from Warsaw not knowing what it really was, when I visited my cousins many years ago. My Dad recognised the Kaszanka straight away as he remembered the sausage from when he was a boy in Warsaw. Me, my brother and Dad ate all of it in one day it was so good. I tend to grill black pudding as it goes lovely and crispy and I love eating it with toast (as well as with a fry up - mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, pork sausages, fried eggs and if I am feeling really hungry Lorne sausage and haggis sausage 😁). Thank you for your channel, I’m learning lots and your videos about Polish culture is helping to fill gaps in my knowledge of Poland. Your tatts are great
Oh, I miss this more than any other Polish food! Growing up in Chicago it was never a problem finding this but now I live in NC - the closest Polish Deli is 45 miles from me and they don't mention it on their website. 😢
Great video! Cooked this way it looks at lot like corned beef hash we eat with eggs for breakfast in the US. As a kid my family would cut and eat it COLD. I didn’t like it and never ate it afterwards. But cooked this way with onion looks tasty and something that would be great with eggs and bread as Mark was eating it at the end. Kudos also to you both for supporting the children’s hospice too. ❤️
Absolutely love kaszanka!! Mostly it was a breakfast dish with eggs but once in awhile we would have it with kluski or kopytka for dinner! Also love haggis and blood pudding, similar with different spices. I believe each nationality has something similar, tried white sausage made by someone from Yugoslavia, it was delicious as well! Smacznego!!
OMG 😮I haven’t had that since I was a kid…my mom would send me to our local polish shop to get blood sausage & cooked just like you and served it on bread 🍞 minus the onions 🧅 cuz the kids weren’t nuts about onions….SO delicious!!! I WANT SOME 😢
Used to love kiszka. Ate it for breakfast on Sundays. Then my mom tried to serve me a plate when I had a red wine hangover. I immediately ran to the bathroom. Haven't touched the stuff since.! On the other hand, I made your mushroom soup for Christmas, delicious! I added shallots and a dash of sherry. My guests and I loved it. And Bacik kielbasa rules! Have a very Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Guys!!! I love it with a fried egg, on Rye bread with pickle on the side. So Yummy! So glad you are doing this..big fan. Much love from California
Have never had the kiszka with the onions but am sure to try that. Have no trouble getting kiszka but do live in the suburbs of Chicago so we have several Polish Deli's.
I always say that I love that this very modern tattooed lady is so traditional! The best of both worlds! Don't know if I'll try kiska, but I was thrilled to get a signed copy of your cookbook, for Christmas!
I love kiszka !I grew up eating it cold dipped in ketchup… cut a chunk and dip..mmmmm,love it like this..also fried for breakfast! Will definitely try your recipe…..Happy new year!
One of my very favorite dishes. I prefer the kaszanka made with buckwheat versus rice, etc. When i was a kid, my family would always go to my grandmother's on Sunday after mass. She liked to make us breakfast. Kaszanka and krajana were always on the table.
I enjoy Kiszka cold off the ring but where I live in Wisconsin, good Polish foods are hard to come by. It seems as though all of our Delis are gone. If I can find some I'd be willing to try this.
I’d eat it with some chopped boiled eggs, boiled potatoes with butter, I’d put a handful of oatmeal in while it’s cooking to absorb that tasty fat and help it crisp up.
Your vids are a pleasure to watch. Gramma served the kiska in 3 or 4 inch pieces, sometimes with potato pancakes or pierogie. I miss that taste very much. There is no source here in the Seattle area, lol. Polish Food Direct is where I have ordered some things. What do you think?
Hi there, I think you are ordering from one of the best companies for Polish food in America. I have worked with them for some time now, and they are my go to for folks that don't have a Polish store near their home. Thanks for watching!
Do you have the Recipe for this Green Bean Soup. I would Love to see how you make it. Thank You, Love your Channel ! Have you ever made a soup using green beans, bacon, floor, and vinegar. My Mother made this and I'm sorry I never got the recipe. She used the White Vinegar to make it just a little sour to taste. Great Polish soup dish served hot . Would you know the name for this soup and have a recipe for this.......Dziękuję !
HI Anna, I cook kaszanka the same way but I add some sliced mushrooms and a little cayenne pepper. We have it with bread too. I put ketchup on mine whereas my husband prefers mustard. I'm interested in buying your book but I'm in England - is it available anywhere here or maybe via Amazon? Thanks
You can purchase it on my website, will post a link below. We ship from Poland so it should get to you relatively quickly. www.polishyourkitchen.com/shop/
You can be negative if ya want, but the truth is, we used this very popular Polish recipe to highlight the charity that is the title of the video. I don’t know why helping a children’s hospice would make you want to make sarcastic remarks. Be better please.
