As an experienced host myself they just talked about super basics and yes you should do those at minimum. But I also like to ask the guest without any reviews a series of about 5 or so basic questions which are pre typed and i have been tweaking for years. The guest responses (if at all) and the way they respond including how they write and many small nuance factors tell you a lot about a person. Many times for instance a certain type of person comes back with an attitude right away. I'm not saying they need to have perfect English or something like that. One part of what I'm looking for is a sense of entitlement, or gratitude. Also just good manners, if they're already aggressive and rude to simple questions that's a bad sign. Or are like how dare you ask me something?
We've been hosting guests at Mais Oui for 22 years. One thing we find with vetting potential guests is that the person booking our location may pass our screens well, but the characteristics of some of their travel companions may leave much to be desired. It's generally not the organizer who books that will smoke in the no smoking rooms, urinate on the lawn or bring extra/outside people. It's generally the others with them who we cannot vet that come with these issues.
