I cosponsor the lying down, flat ginerale, and PB&J sandwich. The latter maybe less so for motion sickness, but for nausea in general. It'll get you a small hit of calories, and it doesn't taste as unpleasant as many other things coming up.

Vacation Impossible yea luckily I didn’t hit me until I got on the water. I put it on a couple hours before then drove to dock. My doctor suggested cutting it in half or even putting on for a little while then take off. I sold my old boat because of sea sickness but I love to fish so I’m looking to get another one next season. It sucks because I’m in ri and fishing out by block Island is incredible. But the seas are always big out there. So unfortunately I might have to pick my days and stay in where it’s not as bad. I’m really gonna try to cure my issues with sea sickness.

I loved the Transderm Scōp patch...I'd have been really nauseated without it, but only used it for 24 hrs. Dry mouth was the only side effect.

Hello again chaps. As mentioned before, this guy done very well staying in the navy for so long considering nausea everytime...I must ask, how long was he nauseous after arriving on deck before it passed? Shorley it couldn't have been for the whole trip, that would have been madness!
@jon4747
@jon4747 Год назад
Great question. There's a lot of factors that go into how long one can go before the nausea sets in. The biggest factors are the sea state (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_state) and the direction of the waves. Generally speaking, side to side movement wasn't too bad, but up and down was REALLY bad. Regardless of movement, I generally started getting nauseous around Sea State 5 without any medication. On the upside, we rarely didn't know when a storm was coming, so the Scopolamine patch could have time to start working. Sometimes though, the Sea State gets bad enough where you're throwing up every 15 min....those were dark days; the kind of days where you're not worried if you'll die, but more scared that you won't. I've known many people who ended up on IV fluids because they couldn't (or didn't) take in enough water while nauseous. Being in Sea State 5 and above was, thankfully, a rarity and not a common occurrence. Most of the time the sea is a friendly place to be. When I was in the Perisian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman back in 2002, it was Sea State 0; only ships and marine life broke the glassy sheen on the water.

Hiya thanks for detailed reply. Could I ask did you get sea sick many times on the same trip? I was informed that most seasickess should pass after 48hrs, as you should get your sea legs by then?....

You're welcome. It's tricky because different people react differently which is why we try to cover a variety of remedies and prevention techniques. We recently found something that seems to help 85% of people though ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eF-vSEJXK-A.html

No mention of plugging of ear, or wrist band? Seems that some people swear by those methods. 10 out of 10 for sticking it in the Navy though with all that sickness.
@VacationImpossible
@VacationImpossible Год назад
Honestly we haven't personally heard of plugging the ear as an effective remedy before. Can't do that when serving on the bridge or anywhere else on duty as you need to hear orders, etc. Another member of our team has tried ear plugging and it never helped him 🤷‍♂️ As for wristbands we try not to recommend things we haven't tried ourselves, when we put this video out we hadn't tried a wristband before but it's funny you mention it because we just tested one that worked in less than 2 minutes! You can see that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eF-vSEJXK-A.html

@@VacationImpossible That's crazy! I bought a set of wrist bands and tested them in a friend's rapidly accelerating BMW on winding roads as a passenger...After 20 mins I felt so sick I had to get out and walk home. For the Sea Journey, I got the scopolamine. But if they work for some people, that 's amazing for them.

@@VacationImpossible After getting wickedly sick on a sailboat trip in a storm, I felt murderous, I got a scopolamine patch from a family friend who was on the boat with us. I very rarely use any prescription drugs, so I thought I might be sensitive to the full patch dose. So I did what the instructions tell you not to do, and cut one in half. Worked great, within about 34 to 40 minutes I was feeling fantastic and even ate some salami and cheese...lol. I put a piece of the adhesive strip I cut from a Bandaid, over the cut side of the patch to keep it from evaporating. And stored the yet to be used cut half in plastic wrap, and it worked fine after sitting for about a week, for our return trip. Using only half a patch probably lessened any potential side effects too, I just noticed I still felt like I was on a boat for a about a day, after taking off the half patch, when walking around the Island.

@@ww1aero Oh yes, 'Mal de debarquement' is the sensation of moving on land after being on water. I have had it after being on a RIB boat on the med, {no scopolamine} and also various ferries {one with scopolamine}..The swaying rolling sensation is disconcerting.
