Yeah, mine was too. Luckily, I usually only get mild lower back pain with my bad form. Now that I will be doing the right form as shown towards the end, I should be safe and good to go! I love this vid. Thanks CanditoTrainingHQ ! You made my night haha.

just curious, would higher hips prevent proper leg drive from the bottom?

This is THE BEST DEADLIFTING VIDEO, fullstop. It makes much more sense to start from the pulling position rather than trying to pull from a low position where you simply can't.
@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 11 лет назад
That's a great cue. It sounds like you are focused on pulling back from the start. What will typically happen is that you will pull up until the knees, then pull back/thrust forward after past the knees. But attempting to pull back from the start helps force proper form even if you cant actually thrust the hips as quickly as you mentally intend to. So that is perfect and one of the mental cues I use/teach.

No, it depends on stance width. See in the SLDL, my stance is closer, and shins vertical. Here my stance is wider, and shins not vertical until weight is passed my knees. It is hard to see, but strongly effects the lift/muscles involved. If I were to pull with a narrow stance my knees would be forward more. Remember this video isnt saying to keep the hips at an exact point like I do. Rather it is to find the strongest position for you. Which is just generally higher than most people think.
@CanditoTrainingHQ

Thank you for the positive comments! Yes, deficit deads will require lower hips/more leg drive to lift the most weight in that ROM. But it should come naturally and will not need to be forced. Deficit deadlifts are an excellent exercise by the way.

Giving out sound advice you could probably be charging for, and in fairness, have every right to do so, speaks volumes about your character in my book. You guys deserve to be making a living out of this at the very least.

I think high hips are great for taller or longer armed people. I've actually just started doing low hip for leg drive. Im loving it and think it's a game changer for me. My limbs are not lanky but towards long and my torso is mid length as well as my legs at 5'11 225lbs and it's great for me.

My deadlift form was always good but I added a 1 inch platform under the plates today and my hips started shooting up too early which is why I'm here, found out I put my hips too low obviously when the bar is higher I need higher hips

Thank you very much! That is what this channel is all about. All I care about is how can I provide information which can positively impact everyone's training. I need to not just have an idea but also bridge the gap between that concept and the viewers understanding. If I cannot do that my idea is worth nothing as it is impactless.
@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 11 лет назад
No, it depends greatly on stance width and shin positioning. It is close visually, but if you look for it, you'll see I SLDL with a narrow stance and vertical shins. But conventional DL with a wider stance and still have a positive shin angle until the bar comes to my knees. If I were to standard DL with the same width I SLDL, my shins would be much more forward. Hips still relatively high, but also involving quad/glute drive off the floor.

@CanditoTrainingHQ

You can work in SLDL work, but for your main deadlift sets let your form in which you are the strongest take precedence. As long as the range of motion is not restricted, using form in which you can generate more force is going to be the best option (assuming joints aren't compromised from rounded back) no matter what cookie cutter form anyone tries to force you to use. Fit your style of lifting to your body rather than visa versa.

Exactly. I've trained at an oly training center for a month and at no point did we do a single deadlift. We did snatch pulls, clean pulls, ect. I have no idea why people think that those are comparable to the DL as you said. It shows that someone out there is seriously misleading people.

No I say specifically to video tape yourself and see where your body is when the bar comes off the floor. Therefore these is no reason to guess and try to SLDL the weight. Because it is fairly easy to find the strongest position for your body. Others may think it looks like an SLDL but the lifter him/herself should easily understand the distinction.

Thank you very much! That is exactly the goal too. I'm a big believer in everything being interconnected when it comes to athletic development. I love how in the video description he said the cause for his poor form was that it was his 10th set or something along those lines. That is precisely why insanely high volume is a terrible idea for the deadlift. But hey, if someone signs up for coaching knowing sound programming will be ignored, I can't pretend the athlete is a victim.

@CanditoTrainingHQ

Widen your stance and make sure to work on hamstring flexibility over time as well. Focus on getting into your stance by being a linebacker stance, butt back, then sink into grabbing the bar. Also, if you still have issues I'd recommend performing some snatch grip deadlifts with higher hips to get used to keeping your back in proper posture.

I wouldn't say it is a matter of agreement or disagreement. It is a matter of fact. You can simply watch videos of Olympic caliber Clean and Jerks and see the comparison between that and world class deadlifts (search brad gillingham). The starting position is significantly lower to allow for the double knee bend. I personally trained at one of the 4 olympic training centers for a brief period and am of course a powerlifter so I understand both. The 2 movements are entirely different.
@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 11 лет назад
Yes allow the knees to come forward. I recommend to try to bring the hips back as much as realistically possible, but even I still have a positive shin angle. It also depends on stance width. If you are fairly narrow, it will require a more positive shin angle. So there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a more positive shin angle just made sure your hips aren't extremely low and are as far back as possible given the shin angle which is comfortable.

Flat dumbell bench is the number 1 chest builder in my opinion. The only reason why flat bench can be more effective is because it is easier to handle lower reps and load heavy weights. But if you are performing sets of 8 or more reps then nothing is better to build muscle/strength than DB bench for your chest. Decline bench is also a great option as well as incline DB bench if your shoulders are lagging. So flat db bench, decline, incline db are top 3.

@CanditoTrainingHQ
@CanditoTrainingHQ 11 лет назад
No. With the olympic lifts you have to keep your hips lower because the 1st pull is simply setting up the rest of the lift. So even though you'd be stronger with higher hips for that 1st pull, you wouldn't be able to have the double knee bend necessary to pull up, and would end up with an awkward powerclean pulling back. To full clean you need to be able to pull the weight up and drop under.
