hahaha thank you! I wonder if some skimmed through beyond it as people know to look for intro/outros. I did intentionally hide it so it'd pop up when not expecting it. And thank you for that last statement that means so much! I always want to keep upping the content. I defintely took my time on this one to say the least, by far the most hours I've done since maybe that 100k sub mcnugget vid.

This video kicked ass on so many levels. From the stellar advice, to the anecdotes with Nguyen, Shaw, Gonzales, Gant, and Norris, to the WTF just happened moment from 5:26-6:36. I think I'd most want to hang out with dancing suited Jonnie over normal Jonnie and quadruped singlet Jonnie. Hopefully he makes a reappearance down the road. Nicely done!

Great information! I started doing sumo deadlifts because my conventional deadlifts didnt feel comfortable at all (was using a narrow stance) But a few days ago I tried a wider stance with the conventional and it felt GREAT. I improved my PR with 15kg by just doing that. (150kg) Even when I barely deadlifted in the last 3 months. I hated deadlifts, but after this week I love them and cant wait to get higher numbers! 200kg is my first goal!

Lamar Grant has a scoliosis, which generally causes imbalances in the Psoas muscles. He probably needed more glute activation in the deadlift to take some of the load off his lower back. It can also cause one knee to be more varus so the glutes will activate coordinately.

Type in Paul Anderson deadlift at 50 years old. That is the form i use for my deadlift. After a decade of pain doing the lift. I finally found my form, i was stubborn not to change. Point is...keep the principles of deadlift of course, but every stance and form will be dofferent from everyone else.

Jonnie you definitely have the most informative and one of the best produced channels out there. Because you seem to put so much effort into making your videos the best they can be, I feel like I have to mention an issue I always have with them: When you're talking about something and you have an image up with text on it it's confusing as hell. The images are always useful but it's kind of annoying to have to pause the video mid-narration to read the text. Narrating the images would definitely make the videos way easier to watch IMO. On another note, this is exactly the video I needed to see as I'm trying to fix up my deadlift. Thanks!

Great video Jonnie and thanks for the inclusion. It’s an honor to be in the same video as those deadlift legends. A lot of my form changes including the narrow stance had to do with Paul’s technique after I saw him pull a new WR at RUM last year. The transition was easier for me after pulling with olys because they made it more natural to go narrow and open up my hips so when I went back to flats, that pathway was already ingrained. An added benefit I figured out was that they made the lockout more difficult, so when I put flats back on I was able to pull through much easier with the added benefit of more speed off the ground because of the utilization of the narrower stance. Also, 5:23 literally raped my mind, but was it really rape if I enjoyed it? Now pls unblock me on Instagram pls.

I’m so glad I found this... I’m 6,3 and roll with a moderate stance. Its confutable for me and allows me to perform a full range of motion. I’ve come to the realisation there are dicks at the gym that will put you down to make them selves look good. An Acquaintance at the gym said my stance should be narrow. It wasn’t try narrow or advice to lift better, but I should be lifting narrow. Any way your video has highlighted he’s a noob jockey and there is nothing wrong with my stance. Its one of the biggest things I worry about is form.

Nice vid man, I'm learning more everyday. I'm small and started 10 months ago but thanks to you and others my dead lift is moving very quickly. Started with like 95 lbs and now working on 315 for reps on the heavy side. Haven't tried a 1 rep max in almost 2 months but I'm thinking I could do at least 365. I've only done conventional. I'm going to use this info while I experiment with some form changes to see if I can get things tighter and more efficient. Maybe one day I will have mighty man glutes like you dude.

Hey Jonnie! Ive learned more from you on lifting technique than anyone out there period. The squat vid you did about using a door frame to practice a straight bar path helped my squat go from fucking grim (260lb) to totally respectable (418lb) in a matter of a few months. You gave me great great advice about benching about not only bringing the scupula together (which I knew) but to bring everything down (it was like I was shrugging my shoulders up before I pressed). This has helped me actually feel my pecs work for the first time ever. I used to bench over 260lb just using my delts haha and I wondered how I couldnt get any more. Finally this has been good today, I actually have decent technique on the dead but Im looking to make small adjustments to take it up a notch and get upto a 600lb deadlift. Much love man and absolutely no homo ;) haha

I think I'll add something (coming from my own bank of knowledge). The wider and more pushed out your knees are, the closer your hips are to the bar (similar to the sumo deadlift). But, this also means your grip width will have to be wider. (A more horizontal torso). In my personal opinion, if your lower back is your weak point in the deadlift I'd say get your stance as narrow as possible and your grip as narrow as possible as this creates a more vertical torso which gives your lower back more leverage, and if your hamstrings/glutes are your weakpoint then it'd be advantageous to move your stance out more and push your knees out more (which gets your hips closer to the bar and thus increasing the leverage of your glutes and hammies). I'm sure candito will come in and correct me on something.

Thoroughly enjoyed it even if i didn't learn anything new( not meant in a bad way) I thought you informed people in a very educated and intelligent way I personally run through the same motions kind of in determining feet placement but i start with a neutral arm positioning aka straight down from the shoulder socket to the bar, always teach to use a double overhand grip then I have myself or clients adjust knee and foot placement inside or outside of the knee depending upon hip width size(knees always in contact with the arms at the starting point,I find adjusting to hip size and natural rising arcs of the knee and hips assists greatly in the ability to get a good setup behind the bar for an explosive setup. It would be awesome to show you and run through some stuff bounce ideas back and forth etc...

All good advice! (Dat azz.) One thing I'd add: if you like your deadlifts more back-and-hamstring dominant but also find yourself more comfortable with a slightly wider stance, instead of setting your hands out way father than they need to be you might try pulling with a *very narrow* Coan-style sumo stance. So drop your arms straight down to the bar, then set your ankles just outside wherever your hands land (instead of closer out by the plates, where they would be in a traditional sumo) . Despite this technically being a sumo pull, the mechanics feel a hell of a lot more like a conventional one.
