Not getting the first part of that question. Signal wise upgrade your antenna. The Nagoya NA-771 is a great one.

You can set them up with ctss codes on simplex using the same frequencies used for FRS (walking talkies) this would filter out anyone's transmissions without the same ctss. However, people will still be able to heat your transmissions if they don't have ctss on. All the "privacy" tones do is filter out transmissions that don't match your codes on your radio. Everyone else can still hear your transmissions so they are not actually private. Watch Notarubacons video on "privacy tones". Also, with higher end walkie talkies you can set up "privacy channels" so you only hear your team. And not the local construction. Again everyone else will still hear you. There are Bluetooth options that will actually be 100% private but the range is limited to Bluetooth range. Only way to be private is encryption.

Should be working out of box. Verify settings and freq. It is a "HAM" radio so as long as you have the right freq imputed you should be able to transmit no restrictions? I've only ran into that on my "GMRS" only radios where it locks out transmit function on none gmrs freqs.

Simplex 22.5 miles. Repeater 125 miles. Line of Sight Similar Elevation. Take in account I'm surrounded my trees and ridges. Flat land I believe I could achieve well over 30 on simplex with the Nagoya 177 antenna

Simplex (no repeater) max 10 miles. Granted that 10 miles is Line-of-Sight with good conditions in my area. I live inbetween two ridges so within the valley it is pretty good. There is one place on my property that I can shoot accross a saddle and get 20 miles out of it, in only that direction. However, with the olycomm-3 repeater on East Tiger in Washington State, as long as I'm in transmission range of the repeater it can rebroadcast my transmission out ~90 miles. I thing the best I've heard of off that repeater is Hoodsport, WA to Granite Falls, WA.

@@tommyboy4 you will definitely get better range for simplex then me out there. Given your in a high point or are not trying transmit across the pass. I think you could theoretically get up to Entiat through the valley. Definitely will need a repeater to get out of the valley there though. If you can get to the ridge up badger mountain road you could extend possibly to quincy southeast of there. Not sure though. For offroad and distances where a repeater won't work I use my 50w or 25w moble setups in my vehicles.

A GMRS/HAM repeater will repeat your broadcast out across a longer distance. The Boafeng and other handheld radios have a limited range due to them being generally line of sight communications. Depending on terrain and other atmospheric factors, you can get 0.5miles to 20/30 miles. Again this depends on line of sight. In my case I'm surrounded by trees and multiple ridges. I can only communication withing the valley for at best a few miles. However, there is a GMRS repeater on to of one of these ridges which I have line of sight with. This is a powerful repeater. If I have the correct frequencys (transmit and recieve), freq offset and CTSS/DTS codes my signal is picked up by the repeater and rebroadcast at along range due to the higher power. With this I have communicationed with people 60 miles away on a small handheld. On this repeater I have heard folks from Hoodsport WA talk to folks in concrete wa. Now in this case they where using vehicle/base station radios with 50w-100w of power.

You don't need it unless ypu want to talk further to people outside your radios range.

I was able to download chirp and have chirp read. What’s on the radio how do I go from there to have those channels installed and working?

@williamrichardson6242 you have to edit what the program pulled from your radio to match what ever freqs you want. Plus seetings. Then export back to/write to the radio.

Not that I'm aware of. Only thing different from place to place is what repeaters are set up. Otherwise everything follows the FCC guidelines.

Yes and no. For general use GMRS it is a but much for most to get up and running. For HAMM Radio Licence holders, it's a dream. Cheap and reliable.

That will make it much easier, you just type in the channel/freq details and download to the radio. Pretty easy

If your on a phone you can zoom in using fingers and you can hit the settings and change playback speed. Thank for the imput tho I'll make sure to do one more close up. Always have issues with that due to the auto focus on some cameras. Thanks Again.
