The "easiest and quickest way to set your dmx addresses on your light fixtures, for both "dip switch" and "display" type settings. Download this DMX chart www.youtube.co...
Man ! Your video is still on RU-vid and is going STRONG !!! Just found it, and would like to thank you for explaining everything in such a clear fashion. But the greatest gift you could give to anyone trying to understand this DMX language is that CHART !!!! Like you said, it's like a Bible of DMX dip switches setup. For this you should get awarded some kind of Grammy ! I'm sure this chart is going to help thousands of those who were looking for this type of info. Thanks again, Bro. You rock !!!
best video by far ...... you clearly broke down DMX addressing on fixtures like no other .. I am a first time user to DMX .. even though I always had intelligent lighting.. but never used a controller till now ..... Thanks for the great break down ...... and loving my obey 70
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for this video. I have been looking for this exact kind of help. I have four old lights that someone let me have and I don't have the manuals. This saved me.
I have to say you are the best teacher I have ever come across. All my new dmx lights are working like a dream. The dip switches nearly send me to the mad house. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for this. Yours is the first tutorial I've watched that made sense enough for me to actually get my lights to do what I wanted :) I still have a long way to go of course but now I can get started.
I just want to say THANK YOU to all of you who have taken the time to watch, comment and share my video, I really appreciate it. I will eventually make another video soon and explain how to use DMX controllers, thanks once again to all of you..
Outstanding! that made so much sense. You could not have made that any more clearer. Thank you. I feel like I can go to the club and knock this out in a few minutes after years of confusion.
Thanks, you answered a lot of my questions such as how DMX addresses are calculated (based off the controller) and if slave units need to be the same fixture such as two of the same lights (which they don't)!
Amazing. Thank you. I like to think I'm a bit above some people when it comes to tech things; programming software etc but DMX seems to be considered pseudo wizardry and spoken of in hushed whispers. You cleared it up for me completely!
Thank you sooooo much you have made my life worthwhile.....lol..you have made it look so easy......I will let you know how I get on...when my ADJ Controller arrives Monday!
Thank you! FYI, if you haven't been told already there is a iPhone app for dip switches. Plug in your number and it converts it to the dip switch format.
hello Cameron, yes thank you, I was aware of the app when I made the video. The purpose of the video was to help everyone understand where the address derives from and the relation between the controller chanels and the fixture.
This was very helpful. My brother helped me with the dip switch lights I have yesterday. Your tutorial confirmed what he showed me. I would like to get that chart you mentioned if you would be so kind as to share it.
The chart is and has always been in the description, go to the top of the list below my video and click on the little arrow on the right, it will expand the information and you will see the chart
@@howtodostuff1244 a friend of mine had a kids academy show to do and I had just today to learn how to operate lights. I typed in the obey 40 (as this is what I was given to use and the whole switch thing was driving driving me crazy). A few videos came up and they were ok but I just hadn't made that leap with them. I was nearly giving up and thought let me take one more look down the list of videos. Your video instantly opened up my mind and saved my bacon. I'll definitely look through some more of your stuff. Thanks.
I totally understand your frustration , it is the exact reason as to why I created the video, simple and informative. I'm really glad it helped you and everyone else who took the time to see it . Comments like yours and of others are very gratifying and continue to confirm to me that it was worth the little time it took to do it. Continued success buddy 😉😎
Click on the link to download the DMX Chart. For European DMX user, the dip-switch settings are different, the link has both US and European charts. Enjoy LINK>www.look4ideas.com/techstuff/dmxchart.pdf
+Anissa Brown hello Anissa, I am not certain if the US DMX chart will work in Australia. ..sorry. If it does please share it on my chanel so that everyone else will know. thanks for watching and sharing my video
+How To Do Stuff : The chart that he uses is very user friendly. The dip switches (ds) are in "binary". From the left to the right each dip switch is twice the value of the first one. Ex. ds 1 has a value of 1; ds 2 has a value of 2; ds 3 has a value of 4; ds 4 has a value of 8; ds 5 has a value of 16; 6=32; 7=64; 8=128. If a ds is "on" then you add it's value to all the values of ds that are "on". Ex. ds 2, 5, 8 are "on" then the value is 2+16+128=146. So...all switches "off" the value is 0; all switches "on" the value is 255 (1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128). Binary is binary so it should be fine.
AMAZING YOU EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN 11 MIN WHAT I COULDN'T LEARN IN 2 DAYS OF WATCHING YOU TUBE VIDEOS. I KNEW YOU HAD TO BE GOOD WITH THE HARLEY HAT ON. THANKS AGAIN!! -----DJ FISHSTYX-----
Thank you for your thorough and simplistic explanation of DMX controller intro. Will you be teaching programing w/ DMX controller soon? I sure hope so.
Great video, explained very clearly what others seem to cause confusion of this simple method. Thank you. - Are you putting together the next video as mentioned?
As alternative to the chart, there's a free iphone app which graphically shows dip settings to any channel number. It even has a button that allows you to keep adding 16 (or 8 etc) to your last figure.
Thank you so much. I get it now. Now, I just have to put this into practice and get my lights and board out to try. I was wondering about wireless DMX too. If say, I put a fixture on Ch 1, and then instead of having a DMX cable on the DMX 'out' side of the fixture, I put a wireless transmitter, and then installed a wireless receiver to all the other fixtures, would the fixture on Ch1 run the other lights as a Master? If not, is there a way to do this? Thanks again!!
Setting dip switches is simply a matter of converting decimal to binary. I think the fact that the switches are usually numbered sequentially (1,2,3 etc) is what causes confusion. If they were numbered 1,2,4,8,16,32 etc it would be more obvious.
Is it possible to program several fixtures of the same model with the same address connected to the same controller so that their functions can all be manipulated at the same time?
Also I have an Elation Magic 260 Controller That has til now been nothing but a door stop. Any chance you can make use of it simple..The Elation Site bites.
Hi' Thanks for your info just wondered if you may be able to advise us. We run a Ledj S1 Controller with Ledj stratos LED Panels we us them on automatic button settings on the controller . I have an unbranded Panel light dmx 512 and don't know if I can get it to work with the other panels and controller? it has a 4 button address unlike the Ledj which is 3 can I somehow get them to work together to operate the same colour program? Hope this makes sense.Ledj panel address is 00.1 Reply
I have a question I have obey70 I wanna to control adj profile plus 64 for up lighting (24) and (6)adj focus spots (6) adj pocket scans but I want them going on different times how would I do that?
how r u. im putting on my first synchronized firework show. but i want to do AC/DC Hells Bells. i wamt to get 4 fire machines to shoot fire when you hear the bell. can i use the dmx machine with the fire machines just as if they were light fixtures. itll be bad aas show if i can.
