Yesterday I was making a call with a friend from the US, and he asked "Do you like books? What's your favorite genre?" I didn't understand the word "genre", was new to me. So he taught me but I couldn't understand how to pronounce it coz it didn't make sense to me. Now here I'm watching your video. I understand perfectly! Thank you! Yeah, I'm a Brazilian Speaker. Hahaa

Hello, Genre - many English-speakers will pronounce it as genDre. There is no "d" in the word - gendre (with the "d") is son-in-law in French. Pronounce genre as "zhaan-ruh" and your ready to go. Keep up the great work.

You're much more likely (where I'm from) to hear jänrä, or John-Ruh. Without the french 'decoration' on the g, but that wont stop someone from understanding what you're saying. Much like the family guy "Cool whip" versus "Cool wip" scene. Brian understands what Stewie is saying, but is confused by the intense pronunciation.

Great vid, but you should've concentrated more on the first syllable instead of the 2nd. I noticed most non-native speakers have trouble pronouncing the "zh" sound (since it's not commonly found in English) and resort to making a "j" sound instead (john-ruh, which is incorrect)
