Just wanted to thank you for answering everyone's questions in the comments! Not many creators take the time to provide curated answers for each question asked. Someone said I had root rot and I mistakenly cut off the top of my cactus and replanted the top. Turns out the bottom was healthy and grew a bunch of pups, so after watching this, I'll be getting my pups going finally.
That's really kind of you to say. It is our pleasure to help everyone in caring for their plant. Thank you so much for following us. I hope everything is going well with your plants!!
Very insightful and straightforward video. Thank you for sharing this. I got an Angel Wings Cactus for my birthday in April and I was so surprised to see an new pad growing so big within a month. I knew I needed to propagate it but know how to. This video was so helpful (this is my first time handling a Cactus, I'm used to my Aloe Vera and Snake Plants).
Using Cutting propagation such as in 3:06, will the original cactus regrow its cut portion, or will it forever be scarred that way? I ask not to propagate, but because I'd like to get a blue candle cacti but keep it a small size for indoor use. I'm thinking cutting it may way, if it regrows properly. Thanks for any reply, I'm very new to the hobby so excuse my ignorance.
Yay thank you! I have a cactus, her name is Susan, and she's sooooo tall that she's starting to lean sideways. I'm rlly scared she's gonna tip over so I'm gonna give her a trim! Now I'll have two Susan's!! Twosans? Twosans.
Great video. Recently plucked off alot of Thimble cactus ( never knew their name) Then let SIT @ callous over for 5-6 days. THEN prepared soil, wet the callous end, dip in hormone powder ( optional) then planted my babies. LOVE cactus. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice video :)) I have a question. How long does it take until the freshly planted pad grows new pads or just grows? I was given a pad a few months ago (like 3 or so). I checked and it actually developed a lot of roots, but it hasen´t changed its outer look. It´s just a single lonely pad in a pot. Does that change at some point and if it does, when does that happen? I´m so excited about it and can´t wait ;)
The last cactus that you cut, you can also get pups from the bottom that is still rooted in the soil. Sprinkle some cinnamon or sulfur powder to prevent fungus. Or just allow it to naturally callous by itself. Leave it still rooted down in the soil. And it will send out offshoots in due time.
Thank you for your video! You said “Once the roots mature” after you’ve misted the top when it’s dry, how do you know when the roots have matured before you can begin watering?
Thanks for the help, I stole part of a cactus from my classroom because they watered it too much and always had the blinds closed, I don't think they own a garden 👍
I cut one of my cacti in 2 since it was basically laying down.... I cut the root in 2 as well since they were growing from the same one.... I'm so anxious now since I planted them without being sure whether or not they had healed - they have a lot of roots but this one is the main one 😢
hi! great video! i have a question my thimble cactus looks similar to the one in the video and its top is ridgy and weird and it also seems to have way less spikes too unlike its full bottom. is that normal? and how is that caused?
I just recently re-potted my baby cactus I grew from seeds. I’m curious to know how often you recommend watering them? I’m worried I will kill them! Just spray when the top soil is dry? I try to water a little from the bottom too! Thank you :) new cactus mommy here lol
hi! i have an Astrophytum asterias cutting-- due to removing the root part infected with rot. may i ask if i could also plant it after 2-3 days just like in cutting propagation or should i wait more? atm, it's around 2 and a half days drying and it's just a little bit soft but the cut part is fully dry now
What if I am cutting a long rooted plant in two and they each still have roots. What should I do for a cacti that don't grow pads. This on grew laying down.
@@trankgonotryatmojo2942 like others said, if you stick your fingers in the soil or bottom of pot soil through a drainage hole, and it is completely dry, you can water to saturation. Then let it dry out completely again. You're simulating a rainstorm and then dry spells between.
How long should i leave the little cactus bud to grow on it's mother plant before replanting it? It is still so young so i wonder whether it'd be ok to remove it from mother plant. And thank you so much your videos are the best 🏆️
Hi there, it is recommended that the chosen offset should be at least the size of a small ball (about 1.5-2 inches long), as they tend to be healthier and stronger and will increase your chance of success in propagating it.
I'm laughing here because I got so distracted by your cat-petting gloves, with the rubbery dots on the palms designed for gently removing loose hair from your Kitty's coat. They even have little toe-pads on the fingertips. So cute. I would never have thought to use them for working with cacti. I had to back the video up to be sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. I really enjoyed your video. I have some questions about the Echinopsis pups I recently potted up. I have them under grow lights. Should I start with the dimmest setting and gradually increase the light intensity? How many hours per day do they want? As for watering, at this rooting stage is it best to spray them or bottom-water? How long should I expect them to grow to flowering size? Thanks for all you do.
hahaha I was laughing reading your comment as well. And yeah you were right that was our Kitty's coat haha so glad that you noticed the very small detail like that. As per your question about the Echinopsis, it is best to provide cacti with at least 4 to 6 hours of bright sunlight per day to encourage flowering. As you're having them under grow lights, this piece could help you so please check it out: succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-use-grow-light-for-your-indoor-succulents As per the watering, please wait for about 5-7 days before watering as this will lessen any risk of rotting or other infections
Thank you for your video, appreciate all the info less than 5 minutes 👍👍 now I know what to do with my pad type cactus. One question: what would be the possibilities that the pad "bow " itself after planting into the soil ?
Hi, thank you for your compliment! About your question, is it correct that you're asking about cactus pad drooping or falling over after being planted into the soil?
@@alphaend5045 Some of the leading causes behind a drooping cactus are: watering issues (overwatering or underwatering), too big container, weak roots/root rot, pest infestation, or lack of sufficient sunlight. So probably you should check your care routine to see exactly what's happening to your cactus!
Hi, thank you for an interesting question. The stump won't close up, it'll remain the same and will callus over. However, with proper care, the stump can grow new pups from the cut point (at 3:34)! In addition, you can also have fun with grafting and create a new cactus!
Glad you enjoyed it. You can check out this Q&A for more tips about propagation succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/q-a-succulent-and-cactus-propagation?_pos=1&_sid=a9951c5de&_ss=r

I *think* I have an Eve's Pin Cactus and I cut about 2.5 inch "branch" to propagate it about a month ago. I have no idea what's happening with the cutting. At the moment it's sort of lying propped up against the rim of the pot with the bottom touching the soil, it's a bit thin and it toppled over. The top looks a bit shrivelled but not squishy, the little nodules where the thorns are look small and sad. The bottom is lighter green in color, which makes me think of rot but it's not squishy. It sprouted one white root about two weeks ago, which fell off. Now it's sprouting another white root, also just one. I don't know whether to water or not or give it more sunlight. I should probably repot it too and make sure it's standing straight up. Also the mother plant sprouted tiny leaves which don't seem to grow anymore, they're not long like the typical image of it in Google. Still growing new branches like crazy though. I haven't repotted it because the soil from the store is well draining, but I'm guessing I should.
I'm really sorry to hear that. I think you still can save it. First off, you should know that experienced gardener may fail to propagate this kind of succulent. Please check Eve's Pin's roots if there are any healthy ones then repot them with moisture soil. You also make sure that they dry out completely before planting and put it in a warm, shady to a well-lit area. Watering sparingly is also recommended. Hope you will success ❤
@@SucculentsBox Thank you for the advice! I replanted it with a new soil and it seems to be much sturdier and is decidedly less wrinkly. It had one tiny pinkish white root when I replanted it. And when I water, I use bottom watering to stimulate more root growth. I'm not going to touch it and water sparingly like you said. :)
