Great Video! I usually start cuttings in a glass bottle or old drinking glass, and once rooted, I transplant it. I never have good luck with rooting hormones, and thank for the update. Super appreciated. Eddie J. Long Island N.Y

God bless you too! I have been trying seeds, but the pods dont turn brown? I'm going to try your way. So, no rooting powder at all?

If you cut a stem with blooms you can snip off most leaves as well as the blooms so the plant can redirect its energy to grow roots

Thank you for an informative video!! I bought 2 Summerific Holy Grail Rose Mallow Hibiscuses last year. My friends and family are begging for cuttings after seeing the giant 11inch blooms.

Do you typically leave that many leaves on your cuttings? I find my fail rate is high when I leave that much. My thought is when you have less leaves, the plant can concentrate more on root development.
@TheUltimateGardener

Yes less leaves is better!

Just started watching your videos on Ultimate Gardening and find your videos quite informative. I work at A Resort on Maderia Beach here in Florida and part of my responsibilities is tending to all the plants on the site. And a good number of those plants are hibiscus which I enjoy taking care of. But I would love to ask you some questions about the hibiscus at my resort. How do I contact you ?

Should I bring it inside in NY now in September or should I leave it outside for the winter. I’m afraid the roots will be too young and the cold can kill them or should I keep them inside and plant them underground next spring..Thank you.
@TheUltimateGardener

If it is Hardy Hibiscus, you’re able to leave it in the ground because they are genetically made to withstand cold temperatures. It can handle up to -20F, so you should be completely fine.😊🌺

When is the best time to plant your hardy hibiscus in the ground? I'm in zone 8a near Seattle. Fall weather will arrive here in about 6-8 weeks.
@TheUltimateGardener

Best time to plant your Hardy Hibiscus is in Early to Late Summer! Because during the winter they are died back and in spring the come up in June! So I recommend Early To Late Summer so you can enjoy some beautiful blooms that year!🌸💖

I was wondering since I have very tall stems almost 6 ft tall can I make several rooted plants from one long stem, maybe like three or four?
@TheUltimateGardener
@TheUltimateGardener Год назад
Most Definitely! Just make sure each piece has a node where it can develop new roots.😊

I’m in Philadelphia. Is it too late to propagate in our zone 7? If so what month would be best to start this process? If it’s not too late can I just plant the branch directly into the ground or does it need to go into a container first? Thanks
@TheUltimateGardener
@TheUltimateGardener 10 месяцев назад
If definitely too late to root a Hardy Hibiscus cutting. I would recommend early June, since that’s when they emerge from the ground. And you have plenty of time for good roots and possibly blooms. And I would always recommend a pot first!🤩

What should I use to keep deer away from my hibiscus?
@TheUltimateGardener
@TheUltimateGardener 11 месяцев назад
I fortunately don’t deal with deer but I know Bonnie created a product to deal with rodents and animals like deer.😄

When do u transplant to outdoor soil?
@TheUltimateGardener
@TheUltimateGardener Год назад
When plant develops more leaf growth and eventually gets bigger. Around 2-3 months after cutting has rooted!🌿

Can I propagate in the fall?
@TheUltimateGardener
@TheUltimateGardener 11 месяцев назад
Not recommend because fall is when they start to die back. Usually early on in the season.🌺
