This video seemed to be more of an ad for the summit vehicle tiedown kit than how to actually properly tie down a vehicle to a trailer.

Pull over every 25 miles to inspect straps 🤣 So much for spending time at the vacation house… by the time we get there it’s time to go back home! 1:58

It looked like the front of that nova had straps going to the sprung part of the car. It would have been good if you pointed out to not do that because the spring compression puts much more stress on the tie downs with every bump you drive over.

@@TheRogueRockhound Mate the important thing is that the car can bonce up and down after it's tied down , the front : tie as close to the wheel on the lower A arm and on the rear tie to the Diff . Hope that helps . Or you can tie the wheels down .

@@richmcgarvey4118 Why? Put the front on first just snug, then put the rears on snug then tighten front down then tighten the back down. With the front on first, you don't have to worry about the car slipping out of gear and trying to roll of the back of the trailer while you are under the back doing the rears. Hopefully your trailer is pretty level and you don't have to worry about that but...it's always better to be safe than sorry.

DO NOT follow the instruction given in this video. It is incorrect instruction and should be taken down. There is only one correct way to tie a vehicle down for transport and that is using tire slings. Every other way to go about it leaves room for failure. All 4 corners of the vehicle must be tied down. No exceptions and no excuses. When you use tire slings the connection points on the trailer should be a compound angle in relation to the tire so in front and back of each tire but also on the outside. Kind of how the incorrectly attached front straps are angled. this keeps the vehicle from moving front to back but also keeps it from moving laterally. The reason why you do not tie down by the vehicle frame or body is this. Unless you have the straps cranked tight enough to compress the suspension fully (not good for the chassis or the body) the straps can come undone. imagine hitting a pot hole and the pot hole is deep enough to cause the suspension of the car to compress, this will slack the tie down straps and they can come undone. Whats worse is the stress the straps receive when the can bounces back up, the "slam" caused by with can exceed the load ratings of the straps and even worse it can exceed the lateral load ratings of whatever part the strap is attached to on the car. The car also has the ability to shift or move when there is slack on the straps. For those that do not understand what "unsprung" means. Unsprung is any part that moves when the car is bounced. So if you bounce a vehicle you do not see the tires moving up and down (crazy hydraulic cars excluded). If you have an older vehicle and it has a sold axle as seen in the video if you bounce the car you do not see the axle moving up and down. DO NOT do what they did to strap down the rear of the car. Wrapping around a solid axle is a no no, if the car moves laterally the straps can slide. DO NOT attach to a control arm. The angle of the control arm changes as a vehicle is bounced and this can allow the straps to shift. The only place on a vehicle that you can be 100% sure does not move with the bouncing of it is the tires. DO NOT hook onto or wrap around a wheel through it's spokes. The wheel can rotate causing slack in a strap. If you care about the vehicle you are towing, and you care about your life and the lives of the people on the road around you do not do what is seen in this video. Just to cover the bases here. front engine vehicles get pulled onto the trailer node first, mid/rear engine vehicles get pulled onto the trailer back first. DO NOT have more weight in back of the trailer tires then is in front of it equal weight is a no go also. You need to see the tow vehicle squat a little as the vehicle is loaded. There is a single exception to this rule, a 2 vehicle trailer. Due to the length of those trailers and how much weight is already on the tongue you may need to have the first car pulled onto the trailer flipped around 180° to reduce the amount of load being placed on the tow vehicle.

Wat parts do you tie the car down to front and back
@2012isRonPaul
@2012isRonPaul 2 года назад
what if the tire loses 50% of its air and the strap just slides off? so the best part should still be the inner part of the control arm or whatever is closest to the middle of the car, because that is usually made out of metal and many trailers wont even have any place to connect the sling thingies
@kevinschlossser7858
@kevinschlossser7858 2 года назад
@@2012isRonPaul and you have the same deal with the tires going flat if you hook onto the control arms except the hooks can come undone if the tire goes flat and the car bounces because of the slack in the strap.. The kind of slings I am referring to will not come off the tire if a tire goes flat.

@@kevinschlossser7858 what kind is that
@kevinschlossser7858
@kevinschlossser7858 2 года назад
@@2012isRonPaul I don't remember the brand off hand and I would have to go looking for it. It is a sling that goes around the tire about 1/2 way down, there is a center strap that goes over the top of the tire and connects to the strap on the inside of the tire. There are 2 straps that are on the left and right and those wrap around the tire and wheel through the spokes and then attach to the deck or side rails at the angles they are supposed to be at. They get tightened to the point where you can see th tire squishing some at the bottom.
