......... the plastic thing clipped in there that you removed was your low impact crash bar. It's designed to keep you from spending thousands on metal repairs from 5-10 mph crashes.

Thanks for the video! I was wondering where to mount a tow strap on my 2016! I think that I will add a little enforcement when I do mine, but this looks like a great spot to locate the strap!

When the video first started, i thought "no way did he mount that to that spot above the radiator!" haha.... If you get the Damond one for about $50, it comes with the Sparco strap and high grade bolts/washers. i think now they even include the longer bolt to properly go through both sides of the crash/crush bar. Dont skimp on hardware quality to save a few bucks... but ideally you should go with a beefier set up like the one from ADF Customs..it has thick plates and mounts to the full crash bar, not just the front crush area. I dont even know if thats rated for a 4k lb car...will very likely bend or simply snap. The ADF Customs one also uses a bolt that sticks out vs a strap. A strap will flex/move and likely ruin the grill if the vehicle is being moved at an angle or incline onto a flatbed. Just a few bits of info to consider. But it is better than nothing at least and there are definitely times where you will need something as your car breaks down or you track it, where it can be mandatory to have a strap of some sort.

That shits gonna rip right out lol I did that the first time you have to drill thru the the other side . If somone yanks it when towing even the real one will l break from the metal mounting point of the sparco strap

@@EUCitizenFedUpWithAllThisCrap the whole that there you drill thru it so you can pass a bolt thru the back side of the bumper my trans blew the other day and I had to tow the car using the strap it held up for about 10 miles until I yanked it a good 6 times the stitching on dye strap gave but mounting point was solid

This is for future reference my fellow tuners I speak by first hand experience. The strap bracket needs to be parallel with the strap, this way it puts stress on the mounting bolt and frame, and not the strap bracket. A lot of times the tow strap is not the problem, it's the mounting, and human installation error. However straps are made from different fabrics, nylon, polyester, and so on, and also thickness. Sounds like great advice. I would think a genuine sparco tow strap would be fine pulling a car that’s under two tons. I did a little research and some people towed with them mounted like this and that’s how I had seen them mounted but what you’re saying makes sense

Few questions for you if you can. Firstly your saying that its best that the mounting bracket sits in line with the strap rather that at a right angle? And secondly is the area that this particular strap in this vid is mounted to strong enough to actually tow. It seems to be a thin piece of metal with an already large hole making it weaker. Isn't the factory tow position more reinforced than this area? Thanks

@@Pkdimmock If you get a genuine tow strap either way would be fine. The same force is applied to the strap, it’s just about the bracket bending or breaking. I’ve seen people bolt them how I did at the end of rods too. If you use washers the crash bar will be strong enough. Some people have welded an extra piece of metal there to make it stronger. The U.S. STs don’t have tow points

@@Nickjoenap Thanks for the response. I've just been looking and I can't even use my factory tow thread hole as its a Left hand M16 3mm pitch thread. M16 bolts have a max thread pitch of 2mm on all the sites I looked at. Plus even if I could bolt it in the strap would sit lower than the bumper hole so would damage my bumper is used. And finally I just figured out that the purple Sparco strap I wanted to match my purple calipers is actually a fake anyway. Not going to plan 😂

Ordering one because my car can't make it up the hill to our cabin in colorado do to the snow lol. We have snowmobiles so i figured this was a good excuse. Is that a half inch bolt?

I’m not exactly sure I just bought whatever fit in the strap. I brought it to the store and just got a heavy duty bolt. The hole in the crash bar is bigger than the one in the tow strap so it’ll fit with a washer

it worked to pull my car out of a little ditch when it snowed just fine. just bent the washers slightly but it got yanked pretty hard and was better than nothing
