No this is not a solid guide. If you want it to last you will disassemble the entire caliper and properly tape off everything. He got paint on the boots and didn't tape up the banjo bolt hole so paint is inside the caliper. I wouldn't let this ricer change my oil.
Great video! I'm glad someone mention how important it is to use high heat primer as brake gets very hot. Plus the paint will stick to the calipers much longer.
Extra tip for anyone doing this, use a gray scotchbrite pad after the primer to smoothen out the high build areas so the basecoat looks higher gloss and less orange peel
Nice job. One thing I would add is that the rustoleum primer requires you to cure it for high heat applications. Some have had the paint flake off after a few months when it isn't cured properly. They have steps for curing on the vehicle and off. Off the vehicle requires you to heat it @ 250 for 30 mins cool 30 mins. Heat to 400 30 mins cool 30 mins. Heat to 650 (i just used broil in the oven) 30 mins cool 30 mins.
Thanks for the video. I NEED to paint my OEM brakes on my 2003 Ford Focus ZX3, because they are 13 years old, rusty, and nasty! I prefer NASCAR approved brakes, so when I can get them, I will be getting Raybestos parts, as soon as possible. I want the FORD Blue color for mine, and your video made it look like a piece of cake, Milanmastracci!!! This is a VERY detailed, and concise way to do this job! WELL DONE, SIR!
Excellent video, I won’t be using any decals but I’m excited to paint my calipers either yellow or blue. Depending on what color I use for my rims. Which I’ll also be DIY’ing. So if yellow gives me 50 more HP, the what are the stats for blue calipers. lol. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m seriously obsessed with my 2002 MB C320 and can’t wait to spoil her with some TLC!
Here's my 2 c on the bolts. Most of the caliper bolts are meant to be replaced once they are removed. They are not re-useable (at least 90% of the time, pretty sure on these calipers too..) So if you do remove them you just throw them away.. That does not stop you from masking up the rest of the caliper. leaving the bolts exposed and hit them with some paint. Some black paint would look nice I reckon...
I have real Brembos on my Mustang GT but they came with a dull grey color. Was thinking about painting them red but was aftaid of losing the Brembo logo. Now I may try this method instead ☺
Wow... that's actually a great demonstration. how many cans of primer, paint and clear coat do you think I would need to do a set of 4 stock (average size) mustang calipers
Nice job, thanx for sharing! I'd just remind you it's better to properly cover all the inside area of calipers and bolt-on surfaces, especially rubber dust protectors, so not to cover them with color. You do not want solvents from color to eat up rubber boots, and also you do not want a layer of paint between bolted surfaces.
Some tips. Wear gloves so you don't get oils from your fingers on the paint; it can prevent paint from adhering. Also use light mist coats so you don't get orange peel or runs. Takes a little longer but the results are so much better. Good work though buddy.
I agree with Miguel! You did an awesome job and take pride in your work. The end product speaks for itself. And who really knows exactly how long the paint job and stickers will last (depending on the abuse of the driver). It's not like you're trying to sell them as 'knock offs'. It's the fact that everyone's not born with the option to spend top dollar when they don't have that in their budget. Again, great job!
Well done. They look fantastic. I'm looking to do this exact paint scheme to the Advics in my 05 Acura RL. Advics IMO work just as well as BREMBO and look just as good too. Did you need a mounting kit for the civic or do they bolt right in? Curious if I could bolt these same Advics on to my 2005 Pilot (same rotors as my 05 Acura RL).
What kinda brakes would I need to find for a 2014 Ford F-150? Mine has a space where you put the Brembo sticker. I love this idea bc I’m not about to spend 2k for brakes just so they’re red
Hey Milan, did you take the car to the dyno after ? How many horses did the vht paint get you..? Any low or high end gains? Shouldn't need to tune or do any further mods. Red caliper is serious business hehe. Good work
Yo Who Cares if they’re fake or not! Most of y’all hating on this man are the ones who got made fun of for wearing “fake Jordan’s” “fake yeezys” “fake chains” and fake ass Gucci & Louis 🤦🏻♂️
So, how long did they last that way, before they looked like the set that were on your car already??? I'm figuring May, it's August now, and if you drive on any gravel roads, and/or pressure wash your car a lot, you're already going to be showing chips. Thinking epoxy paint is a way better solution for more than one season.
Excellent tutorial, however I wouldn’t put a brand name on something if it isn’t from that brand. For me personally I think it’s a bit ricery to do that. But once again the tutorial is solid.👌🏼
How long after the paint did you apply clear coat. I waited 24 hours and the clear coat wrinkled the paint, was it because it wasn't compatible with the paint or because the paint needed to cure first?
Luis Sonoma all paint and clear needs to be applied within a window of one hour or after 7 days generally speaking. Aerosol paints are carried by solvents (lots of them) and if you wait longer than one hour the solvents act like paint stripper to the semi-green state paint that you’re spraying over. Go with one brand of base and clear and apply all costs within an hour
milan, most people on here are probably spraying their old rust bucket civics brakes. DJ, why be a poser and show off your fake brembos? their just brakes jesus.
Yeah, not like back in the old days when we spent all our time foraging and hunting for food. Now I have to spend all my time commenting on youtube videos.
U sure these are rl calipers? Ive seen them in the junk yard that have acura cast into the face, theyre gold with white lettering... No painting necessary!!
Check the description box for a link directing you to where you can get some. The clear coat has to be a high heat because if it isn't, when you get it hot, the clear coat will become gummy and then will hold any kind of dirt in the paint. The result will look like a gross caliper even after you've cleaned it.
Great video mate. Thank you. A big fuck you to all the haters out there. How can you give a thumbs down to this dude who has taken the time and effort to explain this?
@@zodspeed original comment suggested that the unpainted screws/bolts would have been nicer. At 3:50 in the video he says to mask the parts you don’t want to paint. There are countless of videos of people who paint over them and people who cover them. That was the point of my original comment. I just think it was an extra step that the guy didn’t want to do and felt it looked better painted, so cry me river. Also I ain’t your bud, pal.
It's a good idea to mask off the mating surfaces (where the caliper meets the mount) and properly mask off the rubber piston boots. Removing those Torx bolts first would have been a good idea too.
the broadcaster is showing you how to prep and paint, and he's sharing the specific paint brands, great finished product ... thanks for taking the time!
People giving this kid so much shit, granted he added a brembo sticker to a honda caliper; but half you pieces of shit drive some broken kia or don't have a license. Secondly; just had a company teach my crew and I some new ways to paint better/ help it last longer. To make that paint seal better, after you clean it off with brake cleaner, USE water. You don't want anything in between the cast metal/primer. Second, focus hard on priming every area. Any areas you miss dirt, grease, brake dust will get into and eventually ruin the paint & separate it from the cast (flaked paint.) Honestly not that bad of a job, but if you want the caliper to look a lot smoother, use a higher grit sandpaper.
But some of us don't drive drive broke down Kia's and we've had a drivers license for decades it's just I'd rather be neck deep a good steak or some pussy instead of painting my brake calipers.. That's all
Not sure why there’s so many dislikes. This is the first video I’ve seen of someone doing it right all the way and taking them off the car completely to get full coverage. Looks great man!
Because it's quicker and easier to just brush paint with the calliper still on there. Also lasts longer than spray and is less costly while looking just as good
The stupidity in the comment section of this video is astounding. Brembo sells their brakes to car manufactures who put their own logo on the brakes. Just because it doesn’t say “Brembo” doesn’t mean they’re not actually made by Brembo. When you see CTSV brakes on a 240 those are actually made by Brembo not by caddy or the brakes on a Ferrari are not made by Ferrari but usually Brembo, same with lambo, VW, Porsche, Honda, Ford etc.
@@imnota My Acura TL Type S is fitted with brembos in the front stock but they don't say brembo they say Acura. The ones in the video are essentially the exact same brakes but from the Acura RL.
@@KnowItNation Maybe, but those are advics, he actually made another video were he explain they're not brembo and repaints them with the advics logo...
That finish is AWESOME. Hell, just from you sanding it, it looked awesome. But next time. PLEASE tape off the mating surfaces for the brackets and bolts and somehow the slide pin holes. If you have a layer of paint between the caliper and its bracket, the bolts can loosen because the paint will compress and/or squeez to the outside. Same goes for wheels too. Don't make a mistake like I did.
I agree..more tape ..I cringed every time he sprayed. I pictured future clogs and stuck bolts with 100 layers of paint.other than that..I think they looked good.
Fantastic Job. By the look of the raw cleaned calipers, It appears to me you had them sand blasted also. Like I said, "Fantastic job" Love the sticker detailing. Thanks!
Nice job on the paint work. Masking was a little dodgy on the pistons but hopefully that doesn't effect the rubber seal over time. I'm about to replace the calipers on my 79 chevy pickup project vehicle. Going to be using basic free floating OEM replacements but will be painting them prior.
Great video only suggestion to others doing the same would be to also cover the 4 bolts visible on each side, just in case you need to rebuild calipers sometime in the future.
Only he didn't, because he got paint in the fucking boots and banjo bolts. The only way to do this "properly" is to disassemble the fucking caliper, which he clearly didn't.
Personally I would've put vinyl sticker on when it was bare metal, then after painted red and it has dried I would peel the vinyl sticker off so you have brembo in bare shiny metal. I just wouldn't trust the sticker to withstand the heat.
you done a mistake! I work in Brembo company in Italy, and when the brake cakipers are painted, the holes where the bolt go on, are covered with properly stickers ti prevent that the paint doesnt go inside the holes.
Your commentary and overall presentation blows all other DIYers out of the water. The quality of your work is far more impressive than a lot of the videos with millions of views!!
I like how these turned out! But I’ve been powder coating for 4 years now, and seeing how durable it can be I’d say once when I can upgrade to Brembo’s I’ll powder coat them 🔥
Great work bud, anyone hating on what you did/taught just might have some kind of misery in their life and just looking for random people to deflect it on. Keep up the good work I might apply this to my car one day and be confident enough to know I'm doing it the right way. Remember haters don't break you, they make you stronger.
hey "denis"...doing it wrong is doing it wrong. this kid did it WRONG! just because people know how to do RIGHT doesn't make them haters. And you defending this shit job makes you an asshole.
you can replace the factory bolts with an equivalent grade stainless bolt with no problem at all. id be willing to bet my life that even an ungraded bolt would hold up fine
