It has an anti-choke piece too! Ahhh I love it. Many use the skinny ones that don’t have the stopper or anti hole. I also how they can be turned into a gentle lead and has saved many of my clients and me money and transition training smoother to get them to walk nicely on a normal collar or off leash
@SaraOndrako

Great point about turning them into Gentle Lead-type equipment. That can be quite helpful with a strong, heavy puller and an owner with a disability or who is easily pulled over while the pup learns to walk nicely on leash.

Thanks for trying to enlighten ppl with that. It can be dangerous if the owners do not to use them. I feel it work.

My favourite lead as well, but don't forget to inform your audience that this lead should be placed above the wind pipe, and right behind the ears. I've heard so many clients telling my they choked the dog so they switched to a harness, an awful tool to communicate with your dog.

Isn't this kind of leash supposed to be placed right behind the ears to avoid the dog escaping and also hurting themselves if they try to pull?
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 10 месяцев назад
If your dog is a puller or is at risk of escaping the collar/leash, I would not recommed using a slip lead. This is a well trained dog that is not going to pull and choke herself and is not in danger of escaping so a slip lead that is loose and most importantly - comfortably positioned for her - is perfectly appropirate. If a dog is an escape risk, I typically use a martingale collar for safety. If the dog is a puller, I will train them how to walk loosely on a leash with me (and off leash with me) in whatever equipment the pet parent is using (collar, harness, etc.).
@Silverbeardedsurfer
@Silverbeardedsurfer 2 месяца назад
Yeah up behind the ears so you can control the head and above the trachea. You can twist it into an 8 shape and turn it into a halter too. Good training tool. Don't listen to the treats brigade who only do positive reinforcement on a harness. You need to punish pulling behaviour if it is established. A quick correction is not abuse and is for everyone's safety.
@susan9188
@susan9188 6 дней назад
@@Silverbeardedsurfer A harness is useless to stop a puppy pulling. You need a slip lead with the stopper quite tight so the puppy can't wriggle out of it.
@Silverbeardedsurfer
@Silverbeardedsurfer 6 дней назад
@@susan9188 That's what I was saying. A harness is designed for pulling. It is possible to train loose leash with only positive reinforcement but it is more work.

If you use it to “control” the dog then yes - I do not use slip leads to control my dog - I use the stopper as a safety measure so the dog does not accidentally remove themselves from the leash if it “slips” and loosens to widely.
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 2 года назад
There’s more than one use for a slip lead - the way I use it, it is not wrong because I use the stopper (the first, not the second stopper) as a safety hold to keep the lead from opening too loosely as it’s meant to “slip” and the dog coming out of it. I do not use a slip to train or control my dogs.

Your placement is way out of place. Using the leash like that the dog will slip out and run away very easily and if u pull it u will hurt them. Up by the ears and stopper is to keep leash in that position. Give Animal training tips safely pls. 🙏

You can't correct a dog if it's loose. Slip lead should be placed just behind the dog's ears, nowhere else or you can damage the windpipe. Her dog is amazing. Now try it with a five month old Cockapoo. My back is so painful now I can hardly walk because he pulls so much and because he's short I'm forever having to stoop down.

Love your dogs but this video perhaps should have "already trained" dogs in the title. I was looking for an insight how to use this type of leash as a training tool on our XL dog. Any videos I watched so far, show small or medium size dogs which is easy but on a XL dog that is very tall with powerful neck....this leash slips down its neck even with the stopper. Thanks anyway.
@SaraOndrako

Great feedback! You are correct - this is how to use one with a trained dog. I would not use a slip lead to actually train a dog - it's not worth the cervical risk or the discomfort of choking for the dog. If you are looking to improve leash skills, I'd highly recommend teaching a variety of loose leash walking exercises under no distraction, (typically inside) then slowly increase the distraction (moving further out away from your home) and then upping the distraction even further as your dog is ready (practicing the same exercises in public places). When I am teaching a dog to walk with me loosely on leash, I only ever go as far as I know I can succeed with that loose leash to avoid them getting used to any tension. For example, if it takes me 20 minutes to walk down the driveway because I'm reinforcing every time the dog is loose and stopping or redirecting them the dog is not, then that is as far as I go. That gives me my starting point for the next sessions and I've got my new goal (say, 50 feet past the driveway) the next time around. I don't rely on any tool (leash, collar, harness, etc.) to teach the dog or the dog only learns when that tool is in place. I'd recommend picking the collar and leash or harness and leash you want your pup to walk in regularly and train in that :) Here are some of the heeling exercises I practice for loose leash walking - hope these help! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vIyvvJr4E7Q.htmlsi=q47r7k8uubRLcAsz

@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 7 месяцев назад
I wouldn't recommend using a slip lead if she's choking herself. Try going back to basics inside your home working on loose leash walks under low distraction without any equipment on, or a simple collar or harness. I have some Heel exercises that you can try, but I'd work on teaching her what you are looking for first before trying to apply the same techniques on walks if she's a puller. If she gets to where she's loose on a leash and doesn't pull, then you could use a slip lead if you wanted to, but it's not necessary. I use them because I don't keep collars on my dogs all the time and they are easy to grab and go :) Here's the Heel Exercises: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vIyvvJr4E7Q.htmlsi=PEunoDE3yxpsS6i4 You can also try the peanut butter spoon trick I have under Shorts!

Up behind the ears,thats were the slip lead should be positioned. I use these leads daily not as a training tool but for day to day use. Who walks as slow as that 😂
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 10 месяцев назад
That's a training position. This position is for obeying the leash law when I just need to run out quick with her. We also run, jog, go fast and slow, move around objects, and move at a snails pace so my dog learns to walk with me no matter what we are doing - obviously I didn't fit all of our movements into a 60-second short. Trainers and behavior professionals move like that 😉 But to answer your question directly - elderly people, kids, disabled people - these individuals all often walk slow and their dog needs to know how to walk slow with them too to avoid injury.

So what happens if a random situation happens having your slip set so loose seems it would allow a chance for a nervous dog to slip out, or are you saying this technique is for a fully situated dog
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 9 месяцев назад
I wouldn't use this on a really nervous dog if they are likely to bolt - I wouldn't wan them to injure themselves, however, if the slip lead is positioned properly with the stoppers in place or not, as the dog pulls forward, the slip slides and tightens around the neck. @@uncle.breed_4806

this video should be titled "how to use a lead when you have to according to the law but you dont really want to use a lead" this is not how you use a slip lead at all not even close, you put it up right behind the ears and use the stopper to keep it there and thats that if you use it for something else then fine but thats not what they are made for and will most likely strangle your dog (like shown in the video if he pulls away for whatever reason he will get chocked)
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 4 месяца назад
Using a slip lead “properly” in my professional opinion means NOT using it for training a dog not to pull because that causes too much stress on their trachea and cuts off their air supply. There are many many other kinder and simple ways to teach a dog to walk nicely on leash. Pulling here or there with one on - not a big deal - it happens. Watching dogs in the show ring at shows, I see dogs regularly struggling on a slip lead “properly” placed behind the ears at the base of the neck, completely stressed in that environment and then on top of it, struggling to breathe.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
