I couldn’t agree more! Everyone wants to race when your car is cold lol
@JoaoDuraes
@JoaoDuraes 3 года назад
That looked like a lot longer to warm up than it should. You might need to replace your thermostat. It's a common fault in the E92 M3 around that mileage. You can check if it's working properly by monitoring water temp (with a OBD2 reader) and cruising around. Water temp should steadily go up to around 80 degrees celsius (175F) and never go down from there even on cold days and cruising. Mine was dropping down to 67C when cruising around 50mph. Great video though, really important to warm these cars up properly.
@djzaki
@djzaki 3 года назад
I have since done this and it is in fact running correctly. I think it may be a combination of me being light on the throttle, not driving the car very often, and possibly outside temperature. Since the car was new it has always taken forever, and it may just be my driving style.
@JoaoDuraes
@JoaoDuraes 3 года назад
@@rudeboys28712 your E92 M3 should get up to temp regardless of outside temperature. Your thermostat probably needs replacing as well. :)

@@JoaoDuraes no, 10w60 in general takes a long time to warm up
@rengokusats
@rengokusats 3 года назад
it's because the recommended oil is 10w60 which takes ages to warm up 10-15 minutes of driving max which is roughly a commute to a destination. i'm in canada and i can get away with using 0w40 which takes literally 5 minutes to warm up but does burn oil more in hot weather. I wouldn't recommend 10w60 in warmer areas.

Thank you sir I really appreciate it. There's another guy who has a warm up video but he shifts at like 1500 rpm but sometimes you really need to get going. I think the 3000 rpm mark is the best area to warm up not only the oil but the dct. I've also though about shifting anywhere from 2000 to 3000 variably to protect throttle actuators.

I lower the shift to 1 bar and keep it below 3K and shift manually. It takes about 7 min. I saw this on a vid by “Tim Cheou”. The premise is to warm up the DCT and the oil simultaneously quicker. It’s been effective
@djzaki
@djzaki 11 месяцев назад
I spoke with him actually in his comment section and he verified my theory may also be effective. If so probably not by a lot.
@djzaki
@djzaki 11 месяцев назад
The reasoning behind my theory is that the 3 setting was fast enough to shift and build more heat without being too slow and riding the clutch and thus expanding clutch life

Warming these up properly doesn't guarantee your rod bearings will be ok, the main problem is their clearance, at least if they're at the low to mid range of the tolerance. But of course abusing it from cold is very likely going to make it worse a whole lot quicker! Btw, you can't know your rod bearings are ok unless you physically look at them, at which point you'd just change them. Anyway, good to let people know how to warm cars up properly :) PS, that head cam is making me dizzy when you look around, lol.

That isn’t ideal at all. Engine will warm up slower, and the rest of your drivetrain won’t warm up accordingly (transmission & diff). Once you’re through cold start procedure, drive off and keep it under 4,000 rpm. That’s all it needs.
