My puppies are always calm. In fact a lot of times, they fall asleep as I am doing the ears. It's not stressful if you know what you are doing and the puppies are well relaxed naturally.
Thank you for an interesting and informative video! We put the ears of Doberman puppies a little differently, on ice cream sticks. Right on the operating table, the "crown" is put on. This can be a standard metal frame or a plastic structure. Ears are glued to the crown with a plaster two or three centimeters wide. In General, 3 cm is the optimal width of the patch for manipulations after cupping. Holes from a surgical needle with suture threads are never sealed. The ear glued to the crown is slightly stretched. We treat only with hydrogen peroxide and green paint, do not use any ointments, even those that give the best healing results. No matter how carefully the owner uses the ointment , it will still fall on the inner plane of the ear and will not allow the patch to stick properly, and wiping-wiping the newly docked ear can give a surge of inflammation. All" home "kennel dogs' ears were always docked at exactly three months. Puppies of the kennel walk on the ground as early as two months after the second vaccination. Today it is usually "Nobivac". With just bought ears, the puppy stays at home for no more than a day, and then walks again (from 1.5 to 2 months, the puppies "go" for a walk in the hands of the owners). Cavities in the lower part of the ear after removing dry crusts with peroxide up to four or five cubic centimeters (they look scary) are considered the norm and heal without consequences (although they were large and also healed without consequences). In any case, do not start twisting the patch if there is at least one sore left, but if the last sore has flown away, do not leave the ears on the crown, because the base may be incorrectly formed - the "Foundation" of the ear and the ears may not rise. Yes, and the puppy itself is easier when the larynx is free from the crown strings (although the crown is still necessary for two to two and a half weeks). To strengthen the ears gelatin is not given, as there can be complications of the digestive system. Mineral and vitamin baits are given as standard and as it is written on the packages. In November-January, we can add D2 and A in oil and an ultraviolet irradiator (quartz). For gluing, we do not use cardboard tubes, because there is little space left for sticking the patch on the sides of the tube. A pasted" circular " tube can fall into the ear canal, causing additional inconvenience to the puppy. Often, when glued to the tube, the tip of the ear remains dangling until the end of the days of an adult dog. We do not allow adult dogs to litter their puppy ears. A light ear massage is done after removing the pile of plaster from the previous sizing. We do not leave our ears without a patch for more than an hour. We remove the patch, without tearing it off abruptly, and act very slowly, stepping on the wool with our fingers. We do not use stiffening ribs in the form of plastic sticks from plastic bottles or anything that bends at all - only strong, thin wood(ice cream sticks cut along the length or a pencil cut along the length). If the structure will bend and unbend-the patch may not stay on the ears for a certain time. You can not pull the ear with a patch, in any place in height. The index finger must be completely free to enter the middle of the pasted structure to the base of the ear. In addition to "non-pulling", ear ventilation is necessary. According to the above scheme, we raise even the most "loose" ears and any length. At exhibitions in the classes of baby puppies are almost always without a patch, with standing and" wool " ears. It is necessary, until the seam sores begin to tighten the ear section, to pull out the ear, sticking the patch as close as possible to the cut and stick this patch (part of it) on a metal or plastic frame (crown). In any case, you can not seal the thread-seams and sores. The meaning of dressing the "crown" is not to allow the seam to be tightened. After the sores have flown away, you do not need to wear the frame. When the cut is clean, without sores, it is necessary to give the ears the desired shape with a plaster and thin wooden sticks. I always use a pencil cut lengthwise as sticks. The length of the stick for a 4-month-old puppy is approximately 10 cm. On the edge of a smooth table, I usually glue blanks of plaster strips 3 cm wide, 20 cm long-10 pieces, 12 cm long-4 pieces. First, wipe the inside of the ear with a regular dry cloth. Then possibly even glue from the bottom of the inner part of the ear (the cartilaginous thick transverse folds, we call it "the shelf"; this shelf is also glued patch, but only so that it does not hang in the ear canal). The meaning of this: a wooden stick that is placed on a shelf should not injure this shelf. A stick with a rounded knife or scissors at the bottom edge should not touch the ear. After we have glued the first strip to the inner part of the ear, we "tap" it tightly with our fingers, then put the blank stick on the shelf covered with plaster and paste the second strip 12 centimeters long on top of the stick. The wand appears as if in a plaster bag. We do the same with the second ear. Then we make a jumper between the ears... And THE most IMPORTANT thing is NOT to WRAP the EARS UNTIL all the WOUNDS have HEALED and not to TIE the EARS with a plaster so that there is a NORMAL blood SUPPLY. In detail on the video-we Put the ears of a Doberman puppy, on the channel - Doberman Helga. We look forward to communication, guests and new subscribers on our channel!
@16sonic1, I would advise you to seek an experienced ear wrapper to assist you if you do not feel comfortable. My video is as basic as it gets. never wrap ears tight. It's not about tight wrapping, it's about proper tape placement. Fresh taping should be applied every 3-6 days, depending on the puppy and the situation.
I've had Dodies since 1975 and all have been cropped, including 2 rescues. How long you have to continue bracing and taping depends on the length of the crop and the thickness of the ear leather. I've had a bitch that I only had to brace and tape for 2 months and others for 4 months. Once they have their permanent teeth in, the cartllage of the ears hardens.
im very interested in meeting the dog that told you that i was painful for him/her..ive never met a talking dog...the fact that you think tail docking is painful proves to me that you really dont know what youre talking about...theyre tails are docked after birth...i was circumcised as a young boy and dont remember a thing....no different for them
Hi Kris question on where you can purchase the 2inch Kendall porus tape you use with the lines In it ? My fiancé and I have used a lot of different tape but the one you are using seems great . Please if you can drop me a message back please. Thank you so much .
hello i had a question i watched a video that a vet used straws wrapped in gaz said that it would allow more air to get in and it was better? i was wondering if i should use straws or what you had is there a difference? also would dirt get in the ear if using straws with gaz? this was a really good video thanks!
I just got a Doberman puppy that already had his ears cropped before I got him two days ago. I took him to the vet because of odor from his ears. Sure enough, he had infection in his ear. How do I post his ears if I am to be putting drops into his ear for 10 days?
Can you list out the types of tape you used outside of the duct tape. Also in terms of the backer rod, do you just reuse the backer rod with duct tape for a period of time or do you start from scratch every time. Seems like the duct tape part could be reused and save time.
You always want to use new tape and everything each time. Tape needs to be fresh and keep in mind the dog's ears are growing despite them being wrapped. I use the Johnson and Johnson Elastikon tape and also Kendall Porous Medical tape as I stated in the video.
No, this tape is very soft and not as sticky as you might think. If they were removing Duct tape, then yes it would pull their hair, but he is using medical tape here. It comes off very easily with no pulling. :)
Ana Cris after posting them a few times my imagination took over and i made a better version of the typical generic low effort version that you see all over youtube. after it's all been said and done, i prefer the all natural look of the doberman.
FortuneFactory i have bad news for you . By getting circumcise you lost 30 % of pleasure when it comes to sex and the problem increases the older you get . Just watch a video how babies get circumcised and the pain they go through.
Dobermans ears stand at different ages. Sometimes as early as 4 months old and other times up to a year. It all depends on the constant care, - the dog's ear leather/cartilage and length of the crop all play factors.
I don't think you should subject another living thing to surgery because you find the outcome aesthetically pleasing. Your dog is not a decoration and it is not an accessory - it is a dog.
Laurel Hoff I once had a German Shepard that was born with naturally floppy ears. He suffered a very bad ear infection after about nine weeks, and eventually that led to him going deaf. Unless you want deaf dogs, ear crop the ones that you are recommended to. But please refrain from doing it for aesthetics.
Laurel Hoff My veterinarian personally sat me down to explain to medical benefits, not cosmetics, of ear cropping. She said that because the ears would cover the canals, that many escaping bacteria would be trapped inside. If the breed of dog isn't prone to sickness, then I highly detest ear cropping, but if I ever get another German Shepard, I will have that done again. It's a horrible thing to be the reason your dog went deaf.
Laurel Hoff Well, I think it first depends on what they're more prone to. German Sheps are prone to genetic hip deformity, rupturing eardrums, arthritis, bloating, and degenerative myelopathy. While a breed like Chihuahuas, for instance, is more prone to stroke, diabetes, loose kneecaps, and teeth problems. It's not necessarily because it has floppy ears, but because it is a certain breed that has floppy ears. Most of the times, like I've been trying to say, dogs are better off without having their ears cropped, but there are just a small percentage of breeds out there that benefit from it. It's sort of like circumcision, in a way. It limits infection.
To have a dogs ears cropped is totally cruel,i live in Scotland and you would never get away with this, also taping the ears for looks is disgusting, morally wrong, poor dogs, and such a cutie too...
How come this is cruel? I wonder which is more cruel....eating meat or cropping a dobermans ears.....Bottom line is that this is body mutilation and it is no different when we spay or neuter our pets.
It is not bad. Some breeds can get ear infections easily and NEED the ears cropped. I love Doberman pinschers. If you don't crop them than they look like a skinny lab mix. Tail cropping is for safety because the tail splits. I don't get why there is so much hate because of cropping...
do you eat meat or poultry products? is that not cruel to animals? do you have pierced ears? or do you know of anyone who wears braces? that's all aesthetic...Oh by the way...so abortion is legal in Scotland but cropping your dog's ear is illegal...come on! please don't be a hypocrite!
You just proved to everybody here that you are a hypocrite. Abortion is ok because it is "somebody's own choice" Excuse me, but just like a dog, a baby or fetus cannot make a consent either. Do you eat meat? Do you really think that those animals consented themselves to be slaughtered? so that you can have food on your dinner table? Regarding your braces. I bet that's what your dentist have told you. They obviously made money from you or your insurance company. Do you know that up to this day orthodontists have not been able to figure out what makes up a healthy bite or who has?. I know this because I have been in the practice for so long and none of my colleagues or former professors have an idea. by the way a fetus is a "living being"
1.For your information meat is not for survival. It is just a type of food. We eat it for pleasure. You can live a much healthier and longer life by being a vegetarian. 2. Only less than 1% of all abortions are performed to save the life of the mother. It is an extremely rare case when abortion is required to save the mother’s life. more than 99 percent of the time abortions are performed out of inconvenience to the mother. I brought up the abortion issue mainly because your moral argument between cropping the ears of a dog versus killing an innocent fetus does not make any sense? Also a fetus are not only a bundle of cells. In fact, it means that an embryo has developed to the point of being recognizable as a human. A fetus is also characterized by the presence of all the major body organs. So you'd rather kill somebody that is recognizable as human not to mention having all major body organs, but you are against cropping a doberman's ears? really? Let me go back to the aesthetic issue. In my years of practice, dental braces are done to prevent or correct crooked teeth so that the individual will have a great smile and will have more confidence. That is purely aesthetic! People have lived without dental braces for thousands of years and they were fine.
