christian i just wanna say i love your videos and i am always excited every time you post a new one!

you are so right, just wear what cool peaces you want to wear and wear them with confidence. here where i live i get weird looks for my tabbie sneakers, on guy who told me he likes my style even once told me that "you really need balls to pull of something like that" and i was like "nah, you just got to wear it man" i myself dont have that many avant garde peaces since i enjoy a more streetwear heavy style. yet i got lots of asymetric clothes (think vetement, ader error, margiela, ambush etc.) and i really love that kinda style. the important thing with stuff like that is to just dont overdo it. when i wear an asymetric top i try to put on some simple pants and not go to crazy with the shoes. usually one asymetric peace is enough to make the outfit interesting enough, without each peace trying to steal the spotlight from another.

Get a pair of black jeans that fit you well in a cut you like, wear them for two months (and I mean *wear* them, don't baby them, go out and do things in them), then wash them inside out on cold and allow to air dry. Wash them at most once a month the same way afterwards. They don't have to be expensive - mine are Levi Denizen's Slim Fits I got for $27.99. They are going to become your favorite pair of jeans, they'll have some wear to them for texture and visual interest, they'll be flattering, and they'll act as foundation for venturing into avant garde tops (I think tops especially are what people get scared of with avant garde, because they're closer to your face and people are more likely to notice it than shoes or even bottoms). They're like a security blanket to help yourself feel less pressured about your fits. I haven't started buying avant garde pieces, but I sew clothing that's weird (I'm not going to call my own work avant garde, that's cringe and pretentious). I like to make modal garments with additional faces and sleeves to change how they can be worn, pieces with elongated or cropped proportions, sleeves that double as hoods and exaggerated turtlenecks, etc. Things people don't see in their day-to-day typically. On top of that, I live in the Midwest, with the closest boutique for avant garde clothing 8ish hours away in Chicago. Those jeans help ground my stranger pieces and give me a stable framework to build off of.

Christian my man. I feel likes it's very easy to style that sweater. I feel, with that sweater u don't really need other avant-garde clothes to buy. I'm pretty sure u have something in your closet that u can style it with. Now I personally wear avant-garde clothing. I wear my clothes wherever tbh. I don't really own a lot of accessories cuz they pricey. Only accessories I got are some hairclips and a few sunglasses. I wouldn't be embarrassed if someone saw me wear my clothes. My family and friends already know I wear unusual clothes. In fact if I didn't wear the clothes I own, I would feel embarrassed cuz that's not really me. For me I have to know what I'm buying into first, understanding the brand, designer, ethos etc.

I believe we could also divide "avant-garde fashion" into categories/spectrum. 1) Fashion as an idea of wearing something. This kind of avant-garde fashion not stick into the item of clothing i.e. sculptural-wear in the works of Craig Green, baloon dress, menstrual pad dress, etc. 2) Avant-garde fashion that stick into the form of conventional clothing but subverse it i.e. CCP, and famously Margiela's deconstructed work and his follower like Demna, Glenn Martens, and Virgil. 3) The in-between of sculptural-wear and conventional clothing i.e. the CDG universe in the works of CDG mainline, Junya mainline, and Noir Kei Ninomiya. Even thought the runaway pieces are more like a sculpture, parts of the look could be purchase separately like a normal clothing items i.e. just the dress, headpieces, the outer layer, the heels/boots, etc.

My whole wardrobe is not fully avant-garde and I sell clothing to make a money to buy those pieces but I am only 16 and my parents are don’t want me wearing that stuff cause they are worried on how others will perceive me which I understand pulling up to see my grandma in rave jeans with a Craig green jacket will probably make my grandma have a heart attack but I still can’t wait till I can go all out with my outfits love the vid btw

hey Christian, this video really helped, as i´m in a similar situation in terms of specific pieces in my wardrobe, with which I still have to get comfortable with, so this video came perfectly. What I find interesting about this topic is also the complete other side of the spectrum, being basics. There are so many brands and so much content focused on basics, that it can quickly become the only thing a person wears and instead of using it as a basis and building upon it, it´s the only thing in their wardrobe. At which point someone may ask how many basics are too many? Can you even have too many? and what does your style even express about you as a person when all you wear are basics? whatever so I have this one super fucking oversized balenciaga layered v-neck sweater from fw21 which is soooooo long omg im drowning in it so thats a bit difficult to wear even though the piece itself compliments my wardrobe quite nice so yeah great video :)

The thing with these outlandish Runway pieces, you can't wear them going grocery shopping or buying gum, you need friends who are into the style 2 plus places to go exciting places. but really you're probably going to wear it in your house and watch fashion shows and hype up yourself but in the end I think these clothes are just to inspire you maybe eat better workout so you can fit in them.

Hello Christian once again, awesome video. It has been a long time coming and I remembered the good old days of watching the aesthetic series videos. While I do splurge on avant-garde clothese these days, I however, have been focusing on my career as my uni is coming to an end.

In general I would, or an actor would lets say, specifically in a broadway context where you might not wear it for extended periods, like during that cutscene. Ex. How often are you going to wear a Dolphin or Wolf Mask. Or for instance, how often would you wear wooden shoes or a French Revolution prison dress outside of historical fiction. The other style usually focuses on wearabililty. These are styles I already wear.
