If you didn’t apply the parking brake and its on by itself, that is not good, but its strange that it applied itself. Did you try to engage and disengage the system again?

@@alyoungcuda I just put everything back on, but it won’t let me move the car out of the emergency park. I put it in drive and reverse. It won’t let me move. 😢

@@trindon9439 you need to apply the epb and reset it, sometimes takes a few tries of on and off with the maintenance technique and apply and release the parking brake..

@@trindon9439 as long as you can hear the motors humming then you didn't mess anything up..it hums moving in or out

New York City Rust from lack of use, then the rusty rotors kills the pads..but in this case ,she was tired of the mechanics telling her she needs rear brakes because of the condition of the rotors at every oil change interval...

Not sure how you forced the caliper piston back in, hopefully nothing was damaged. Check the wiring and connector on the caliper to make sure its not broken or not secured in properly then try again to put it in maintenance mode..both calipers are not moving? Did you do one of those hacks that are on the other youtube videos?

@@alyoungcuda had to put a battery to it and reverse polarity and it compressed itself

@@EddiePounds you did it for both sides or just 1 side the wiring is messed up

@@alyoungcuda both sides. I just had to unplug the clip then put wire to the prong, then plugged it back in

@@alyoungcuda dealership told me to unplug the battery for 20 mins but that didn't get rid of the warning indicator

Yes it works on newer models and hopefully the worse thing that happens is that you mess up the gears on the motor or piston and the vise grip marks...

Maintenance mode places the electric parking brake motors in neutral sort of speaking so you can easily push in the caliper pistons to accept the new wider brake pads. Once the brakes are replaced, you take it out of Maintenance mode and it grabs the piston with the motors gears so when you go back to using the parking brake, the motor spins,grabs the gears and moves the pads in to squeeze the rotors to apply the parking brake or release it. There are hacks out there that do other things like screwing the motors off or providing power and ground to the motors from an outside source, but why when you just have to follow a simple step, it makes it easier so you just have to push in the piston like its a front caliper...
