Glad we could help! If you haven't all ready, you may want to take a look at our brake up-grade blog that goes through options for the front and rear brakes: www.flatironstuning.com/blog/a-brake-up-grade-path-for-the-subaru-wrx-and-sti Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Great vid! As you can see I'm moving into the Wrx, and we have the calipers. Just wanted to finda way to maintenance these parts. The information on the rotors really helps. I just have to find the pads
I do wish there was a part number associated with the rotors or possibly links to the products talked about, just as a point of reference. Regardless thanks for the information in the video👍
Thanks for watching! There are links in the description for all of the parts that we discussed in the video. I would also recommend going through our Brake Up-Grade Path blog here: www.flatironstuning.com/blog/a-brake-up-grade-path-for-the-subaru-wrx-and-sti Hope that helps and Stay Tuned!
I think you forgot to mention a few things in your video. What to do with the wrx brake backplate? and you definitely need different wheels, these are just two that come to mind.
Awesome, was going to ask if a timesert would work to repair a caliper. I have no intention of this conversion, but I love to learn more. I drive a 96 Subaru legacy. Aluminum is ideal for longevity of a caliper in the Rust belt, so I did think about this kind of conversion. I do wonder if it would work.
If I want to put rear 2pot calipers on a 06 FXT. Can I just get a pair of backing plates instead of the caliper adapters? (26704FE000 & 26704FE010 for the 316 rotors and brembo 2pot from 04 STI?) (26704FE080 & 26704FE090 for the 290 rotors and red 2pot from 07 WRX?) And the special thicker e-brake shoes if I want the 316 rotors with brembo.
Thanks for your question. Sure, you can go with backing plates instead of the brackets. As you say, you would need the R180 parking brake assembly if you go with the STI rear calipers. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Thanks for your question. That actually all comes down to how you do the 6-speed swap. If you follow our guide: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nUJ7E2Bh5g0.htmlsi=0z1teJCIeUtMKxnJ Then yes, you would still need the adapters because you would be keeping your WRX knuckles and axles, etc. Hope that helps and Stay Tuned!
Hi Flatirons, you mentioned the handbrake size is related to the r160/r180 diff - is this actually the case or is it possible to swap the hub/handbrake mechanism only from an STI to a WRX? The reason I ask is that the JDM Forester STI uses an R160 rear diff, but the rear brake discs are identical to the same model year 2004 STi so it's clearly a 'combo' of what we'd think of R160/R180.
Thanks for your question. The sizing of the parking brake shoes is built into the backing plates. If the Forester STI does have the fittings for the larger STI shoes, then yes, that should work for a conversion. However, as the KNS adapter shoes work for this as well, I would guess that those are more readily available. Hope that helps, and Stay Tuned!
For the rear bigger parking shoes and stock 5x100 STI rotors what are the part #'s and quantities for the extra springs and clips needed for doing a pair of rear 06 Brembos on a GD WRX?
@@FlatironsTuning okay sounds good I'm getting ready to do a Brembo conversion on my 2.5 RS which is my race car. I have AP front brakes just need something to complement the fronts for the rear.
@@FlatironsTuning another question for you. Do you know what the difference between the 04-07 rear Brembo and the 08 Brembo rears? Do they bolt up the same and use the same rotor but have a different exterior shape to them?
I have a 1998 Subaru Impreza obs I just installed brembos in the front bled the brakes. But my brake pedal feels odd, should I upgrade to a wrx or sti brake booster?
Check the size of your master compared to the WRX one. It may be that switching to the STI master would help. What you done with your rear brakes? If they are still stock, that could also cause bias issues which could be related. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. Stay Tuned!
@@FlatironsTuning omg thank you! I’ll look into that! And yes I still have the drums in the back for now I’m butting on the sti rears next week. Seriously thanks
Is their any possible way to fit the GR rear brembo on a 02 WRX. I know it can be done by swapping to the Sti drive train. Can it be done without a swap?
Thanks for your question. At this time, that would require an adapter bracket that doesn't exist. If a company makes something, then you should be able to use the Black rear Brembo's. Hope that helps and Stay Tuned!
2nd time today that I need to recommend that people go straight to R180 driveline. “Adapter” parking brake is awful in my opinion and from experience. If needed, fit a 6-speed. Otherwise totally agree 😊
Hey. I been to your website to purchase the KNS brake shoes and clips but I would like to know if the price listed is per side or everything needed for both sides. Thanks
Thanks for your question. The KNS Parking Brake shoes are a pair, so you would just need 1 for your car. Thanks for the business, and thanks for watching!
I have run into a little snag in the rear. My DBA conversion rotor sits right up against the rotor dust cover. Do I need to swap that out?(if possible) or just remove it all together?
Thanks for your question. Yes, because you are putting on a larger rotor, and the dust cover normally hangs over the stock rotors, you will need to trim it, or remove it to be able to run those larger rotors. The easiest way to do this is to drill out the spot-welds that attach the outer portion of the dust shield. That is what we have done on the ones we have installed. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for your question Jay. I do apologize but I'm not sure what product you need information on. If you can give more information, I'll do my best to answer your question. Thanks!
So to confirm if I have an 06 wrx, I can just purchase the larger handbrake shoes and the clips and pieces that go with that, and that’s it? The brembos will bolt up after this and the rotors will now be compatible?
Thanks for your question. Yes, that is basically it. Just keep in mind you would need 2004 STI rotors, or at least a dual drilled STI rear rotor, but yes, that is all you would need. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your question Kano. The emergency brake cable doesn't connect to the Brembo caliper. There are parking brake shoes that work inside the rear rotor, and they connect to them. If you look at the KNS brake shoes that we talk about in the video, you should also see the cable coming through the backing plate. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for your question. We have them on our web-site here: www.flatironstuning.com/kns-wrx-to-sti-brembo-parking-brake-adapter-shoes Hope that helps and we appreciate your business!
hello < i own a 2002 wrx and im planint to swap into front 4 pot caliper from a 2007 wrx tr my cuestion is do a I need bigger rotor ? if so whats the right size need it ??
Thanks for your question. Up front, the Subaru 4-pots use the same rotor as your 02, so no need to change. In the rear, you would need the 06-07 WRX rear rotor if you put on the Subaru 2-pots. And remember to check wheel clearance. Your stock wheels will need a 3-5mm spacer to clear the 4-pots up front. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Ok so I have a 02 WRX I used 04 sti rear hubs to put brembos on. So I will just use 04 sti parking brakes and spring kit right?? At least that is what I was thinking
Thanks for your question Mitch. That is actually a rather deep topic, and one that we went into pretty good detail in our 6-Speed FAQ video. I'd recommend going through that, as it should answer most questions that you might have. Here's a link to that, and if you want to just skip to that part, it starts at 9:05: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uf4tcG5GqDU.html Thanks for watching!
Hello Mitch. Okay, if you swapped everything over, then yes, you would just need the 04 STI parking brake bits and then you can run the 04 STI rear rotor.
Ok I think I may understand.. I used a full 04 hub and brake setup so I would say the back plat is sti being all I did was take the E-brakes off and put them on.. so I may have the answer as, yes I use the sti shoes?
Hello Johnny. If you mean the dust shields, you will have to trim them, somewhat significantly, to get the larger rotors to fit. We haven't had any issues running without them, but it would be worth keeping an eye on your ball-joints, tie-rods, and other suspension bushings, etc., that would be close to the heat. Thanks for watching!
Hello Johnny. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Those boot seals are rather important. They keep dust and debris from betting behind your brake pistons. A worst case scenereo would be that your caliper pistons could get scored which could cause them to stick/seize in the caliper and cause a failure. I would definitely look into a rebuild kit if you could. Hope that helps!
I don't. You can run a hydraulic hand-brake without an additional caliper on the rear wheels, but you would need to run custom lines. For that, you may have to make something yourself. Good luck and Stay Tuned!
Thanks for your question. I'm not sure what you mean by code? If you can give me more information, I'll do my best to help. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
@@MrHeksas Okay, if you need everything, yes Brembo has a kit and it is much less expensive than piecing everything together from a dealer: www.flatironstuning.com/brembo-gt-rear-2-pot-02-07-wrx-cast-2-piece I hope that helps and let us know if you need anything else.
Indeed. Idk which part number/year sti DBA 4000 rotors I need. Some websites that sell the adapter brackets say only 08+ sti DBA 4000 rotors, or if just the 04-07 DBA 4000s work fine. Or if it's a specific conversion DBA 4000 rotor
ejay he said 04 Sti...the 04 Sti is the only usdm model we got with the 5x100 bolt pattern. As for the rotor part number look it up. You can’t miss it.
Thanks for your question. Up front the only difference in the calipers is the color, so those will fit. In the rear, the 08-17 calipers are different, and would not bolt up to the STI knuckle. But the internals of the caliper are the same. Hope that helps and Stay Tuned!
