Great info here but here is my concern. I have two Humidors that I am using with the steam of the shower to bring old cigars back from the dead. Two questions. First: is that a good idea and second is if I take out some of them that are in plastic and use Tupperware will they all taste the same if moisture does bring them back? Is cedar critical and can I use a sponge and no gauges to save the cheap ones? Many thanks.

French oak for wine - Spanish cedar for cigars. Cigars absorb the odor of the Spanish cedar and it helps hold humidity. Copper was used way back when but they smoked mostly dried cigars. Copper inhibited the growth of bacteria. Check the “antimicrobial properties of copper.” 33 years, millions of cigars, 10,000 humidors later. I respect the art suggesting those that care do also? 1900 they licked the cigars to moisten them, I still see people do this!

Spanish cedar is not used to keep the taste intact. It is used because it is bug resistant, stabilizes humidity, and it is tradition. Copper was also once the go to interior humidor material .

I thought it's 50/50 water to prop. glycol. And after a few charges you could probably get by with just the water because the prop glycol won't evaporate. Right?

I just built a tupperdor and I rinsed it out really well like you said and let it dry. I lined the bottom with cedar sheets the thin ones like you have and I also have a fresh box of Cuban cigars that I keep in there. About 40 singles my question is do you think that's enough Cedar or should I take everything out and line the entire thing even the bottom of the lid because I'm worried I want my cigars to smoke like plastic any advice I would really appreciate it.

Please explain this process.

if you have a airtight container dont you just put the cigars in there without humidifier, because cigars are like mini humidifier. theres no air going in or out so there humidity getting let off from the cigars is enough?

Theres nothing wrong with having a tupperdor or a coolidor. Tons of people use one, myself included. Yes I have a 200 count Humidor, but I also have 100 count and 30 count tupperdors. They also make a great travel case.

Noticed some of your cigars are still in their wrappers I have heard differing thoughts on this. Should they be left in their original wrappers or removed. Thx

The cedar will also help stabilize the humidity since it's absorbent and can hold some moisture whereas the plastic cannot.

I can not find cedar sheets any where. When I ask the cigar store they look at me like I am speaking another language, Do I really need the cedar? Can you tell me where I can get it

My cigar supplier wanted $10 for a small bottle of 10% propazine glycol. I went to a drugstore and asked to buy a bottle of 100% propazine glycol. They had to order it. When it arrived, I mixed it with a gallon of distilled water. After 10 years, I have no mold and still have some left.

Sorry, but what makes you think that this "ruins cigars"? i have read multiple testimonials from cigar smokers that use this method and no one has ever said anything about their cigars being ruined. And these people have actual humidors, they use tuppadors for overflows. A Humidor's job is to keep relative humidity correct? What does that better than a airtight container? As i said before, people who use these devices will eventually buy a humdior, heck i just got one today!

Uh, close, but no cigar... First, place cigars in a wooden cigar box...local cigar shop will sell you one for five bucks...drill lots of holes in cigar box to allow for air flow... Second, buy a heavy duty plastic storage container for wooden cigar box...should have 2 or 3 inches clearance all the way around... Third...build some kind of plastic rack or stand to hold cigar box 2 or three inches above of the floor of the big plastic box... Four...spread a 3/4" layer of humidity beads (available from ebay) on bottom of big plastic box...thoroughly moisten... Five...place big plastic box, containing wooden cigar box, containing cigars, on the floor of a closet...or other cool place in the house...65 - 70 degrees...wait anywhere from 2 weeks to 20 years...moisten beads frequently...

A humidor is specially designed to stabilize humidity and lined with spanish cedar to help keep the taste intact. A real humidor does not seal completely allowing for some air flow to maintain the proper humidity and reduce the chance of mold. Many people cannot tell the difference between a tasteless cigar and a properly cared for cigar. Hey I am just throwing out my 33 years of experience as a wholesaler - retailer, take it or not, your choice.

oh wait... Mike Robbins, do you sell humidors? Is this what your comments are about? I think you are looking at this the wrong way. People will want nice things sooner or later and sooner or later they will buy a nice humidor. What this video does is gives a person who is not sure if they want to spend alot of money on a humidor just to see if they like the hobby. If they do like cigars, they will eventually buy a real humidor.

A cigar is a work of art that some manufacturers put their whole life into like the sistine chapel. Decades of working the soil, gathering the finest rollers, taking the time to do everything right. Then some people take this great art and put it in a plasticTupperdor. At least my few thousand customers listen to me 100% thank "Y"

I’ll never understand why guys get so cheap and thumb their nose at Boveda. You’ll spend tons of money on cigars but cant justify spending a few bucks a year on Boveda packs? Screw recharging them. I’ll just spend $50 s year on new packs every 6 months. If $50 is a big deal to you then maybe get a different hobby

Yes but this method ruins the cigars. Just like a casual wine drinker buy what you need in the short term. The cigars are perfectly good in a zip lock bag for up to 2 weeks with nothing in the bag except cigars. The idea is to have a good cigar when you want it, isn't it? Putting it in this type of storage for months turns cigars into tasteless lumps of tobacco defeating the whole purpose and ruining the art form. Many cannot tell the difference "Sigh".
