If you see any fitness influencer putting out yet another one of these overly exaggerated cookie cutter “POV: You did X and muscle Y doubled in size” videos, you can pretty much be assured they're full of sh*t. Even if a given form tweak is beneficial (though far more often than not the ones I come across aren't), it’s never going to be some critical game changer that massively accelerates your gains over night. And it definitely wasn't the "one thing" responsible for that person finally making gains in a given muscle. These topics also typically require nuance. A certain exercise variation might very well be worthwhile, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's "better" than (or a complete replacement for) the one it's being compared to. For example, I've seen a ton of people making this same reel and then showing a facing away cable curl. Sure, that movement is totally fine and might provide some small benefit by training the biceps at a longer length... But that doesn't mean facing toward the stack and emphasizing the mid to shortened range is "wrong" or shouldn't also be included. But the way these reels are portrayed makes it appear like the variation featured is the only one you should be doing. It's just lazy content all around and is usually put out by people trying to strike gold with the algorithm versus actually giving genuinely useful advice. (And just for the record, no one is even using the concept of "POV" correctly in the first place 😂 "POV" means "point of view", so it's what you'd be seeing through your own eyes. If you call it a POV and then show yourself doing something, that's someone else's POV, not yours. Oh shoot, I just realized I have been doing it wrong the whole time. I thought that I needed to go to the gym and stare at people doing goofy exercises from 5-7 feet away to double my gains. Well back to the drawing board...
Thank you for saying that about incorrect usage of POV. Or, maybe it is accidentally correct because while you’re watching someone else so some wack variation, you’re just doing regular lateral raises
I am from the jump training community, we also suffer from a lot of these types of content where influencers X propose Y types of exercises to increase vert by 6-12 inches without explaining why, what's the purpose of each exercise, the intent of them, and how many sets and reps for each body type/training age. There are too many variables involved to generalize such a vast topic into the population.
