I've just won my first fixed price job. Lawn cut & weed a very small border. They asked what my hourly rate was. I politely told them it would be a fixed price. I made everything clear to them. They were happy. I think it will be profitable. Many thanks. Joe

I really like your honest throughout your videos many people try and hide their failings. My biggest downfall is communicating well, what I will do for the money I need to get better at it. Another good video thanks dude

Ah mate your videos have helped me so much, I’ve been working for a landscaping company for 15 yrs as a grounds maintenance operative and started one private job 10 yrs ago doing it on a Saturday which has led me to working every weekend picking up jobs all the time, it’s got to the point where 7 day wks are killing me off and want to work for myself full time but I’ve really struggled at getting a format on pricing that works and these 3 videos have helped so much (I’ve also watched all your vids and they’re great), with this info I am going to take the jump I’ve been wanting to do for many yrs but been afraid to do, so a massive thank you from myself I can’t wait to write my notice and be my own boss 👍

Good luck to you Jason. All the best with your business. I'm not an expert, just a guy with an opinion and green fingers, but I hope it works out for you sir.

Just watched all three parts, again great advice, the saying NO to customers if done right can create a better working environment in the long term. Definitely agree about spreading the cost over the 12 months. Keep the videos coming!

Mowtown NI Thank you mate. Learning to say no is important, but not always easy to do! I don't always practice what I preach!

Good luck Joe. Hope it goes well. Whilst I'm really glad you enjoy the videos just remember this is one man's opinion based on where I am at now in my life/business with all my flaws!

Hi, Brilliant set of three vids. When you quote for a fixed price job, and the client accepts, do you give the client a written contract or is it just verbal? I have found in the past that verbal contracts, although leagally acceptable in law are usually subject to selective amniesia by the client. They usually say that they can't remember having discussed this point or that point? Which should you do? Regards, Bill.

What if they cancel at the end of the growing season? How do you get the rest of your money?

What would you charge for a 25meter hedge cut (approx 5 foot tall) slight trim?

Hi Simon . Great videos! Really helpful. I'm studying RHS L2 Principals of horticulture. Great advice about finding your niche. Knowing your plants! Can you please recommend any decent waterproof work clothes. Trousers, coats, boots? Many thanks. Joe

Hmmm...tricky one Joseph. Honestly I find that anything that is totally waterproof is either a) hugely expensive or b) is so heavy that it ends up making you sweat so much you end up as wet as you had been out in the rain without it. I tend to buy the cheaper stuff and replace more often

Thanks W.C. Good point. I'm hoping to get my business started next spring. I have two clients at the moment that I do at the weekend. I have to be honest, I still feel like a absolutely beginner! I haven't invested in any power tools yet. I'm considering a kombi set up. What tools are a must in the beginning? Love your videos. A real eye opener. Many thanks! Joe

Hi Joe, In terms of what tools you invest in I suppose it depends what type of what you want to do....I personally started up with the Kombi system (Stihl) as it was useful to have multiple attachments for one unit which was useful as well for saving space for storage/transportation. I would say a blower is very useful as well for all times of year
