I have a female doberman, Quincy. She loves to play outside. She is so gentle and good with other dogs i think due to early socialization. She had a habit of jumping on people but as she is growing older that problem seems to fade away. She becomes so happy when any of the family members come back home And...She loves all members of the family so much, you can see it in so many behaviours. You can also see that in her eyes man, the way dobermans look at you, i mean you can feel their love for you.

@@pirate149 i think you can train her with whatever food she is having right now it would work just as well. And whenever she starts eating treats (which i think is around 3-4 months old ) you can use that as well.
@siddheshkambli
@siddheshkambli 6 месяцев назад
@@pirate149 SOCIALIZATION is the most important thing you can do to prevent her from becoming aggressive. You can do that by introducing her to other neighbouring dogs and humans early on. Let her interact with them (and be consistent about it). This way she will feel much more comfortable and confident when she grows up. Also give her lots of playtime and exercise and mental stimulation. That will also help a lot to prevent aggressive behaviour. Lastly just keep watching more dog training videos on RU-vid. All the best to you brother! Have an amazing journey with your doberman!

As a fellow dobie owner, I have to say, again, and agree again, Dobermans are different. My red girl Lucy still goes over the top when she sees other dogs she hasn't met. She follows every command I give at home with complete obedience as most dog owners know, distraction. People avoid us in my neighbourhood. Despite all of her yelling, she only wants new friends. She is a covid hand me down and has become a typical doberman. The best friend I have ever had. She reads my mind and can predict my reaction to situations. I once did Ironman and being a dobie owner is like doing it every day. Very rewarding, but oi, alot of work. Cheers P

We have two medium size doodle boys who we are very active with and a female dobbie neighbor. They get along great, especially w the doodle who is closer to her age and shares her love of swimming (we live near a creek) and chasing balls. The dobbie isn’t aggressive she just has way more stamina than the other dogs. I also watch doodles for daycare and it’s the same thing: they may be able to sprint and beat her on the turns but she smokes them every time w the endurance. They have so much energy to work out and need to run and work hard like a viszla or - a breed I don’t know as well - a husky i so I’ve heard. At any rate, doodles and dobbies not extremely intelligent and get along great in my experience when enough activity is available to both, and an opportunity to separate when the doods become too tired to keep up w the dobbie!

We also trained Arwen to sleep in her pen, like yours, she goes in every night like a clock, and we lock it just to be safe, because she does like to get on the couch, which she’s not allowed to. But she “knocks” in the morning and we just let her out, she’s happy and rested. I think if you train them to not be afraid of their pen or use it as a punishment, but a safe area to rest, they will actually love it.
@BONES714
@BONES714 Год назад
Kennel training is great and I totally recommend it. There’s always a time and place they will need to be in their kennel so teaching them that’s it’s a positive thing is important. As far as the nails go I use and recommend a dremel I think I included one in my description of the video. Before you try trimming them you need to get her comfortable with you touching her paws, then move on to bringing out the dremel around her. Next would be turning it on and eventually touching her with it but not trimming the nails yet. Doing this will help her feel the vibrations of the tool. Next would be getting her a very high value treat that lasts a little while. I use bully sticks or marrow bones and I only give her these once a week while I trim nails so she associates the dremel,noise,vibration with her favorite treat and finally do the nails that are easiest first it might only be one or two from each paw but that’s a start. Don’t think you have to finish a whole paw or all the feet in one sitting because that is very tough to do until she gets used to all the things we just talked about.
@jeremyhansen8186
@jeremyhansen8186 11 месяцев назад
The intro was absolutely correct. Be advised, warning, proceed at your own risk. Excellent point about her crate being her haven and not a punishment. I do find my doberman, Kamo, to play very rough with other dogs and myself as well. Interestingly enough, their maturing and subsequent joy for you as their master as a result of that is definitely worth mentioning as you did. Last thing is the mental stimulating being very effective in burning energy. It is a important discipline to hone especially if you live in an urban environment. Mental and physical exercise combined gets him to sleep eight hours no problems. He's dreaming about what crazy adventures he will have the next day.

Your Doberman reminds me of the Doberman we had growing up. We had her since she was puppy. Never aggressive until it was time to be aggressive. Your Doberman crossed her paws in the video. Our Doberman used to do that too. I remember thinking that's odd for a dog. Also, our Doberman used to stretch out. I mean lay prone with her hind legs extended. She used also, crawl under couch or the end table for her rest spot. The pinch collar was her collar. She was so good with commands that when I walk her, only had to move the leash in the direction I wanted her to go. Very smart dog in many ways.

Great video! I’ve owned multiple dobies and people have a hard time understanding how they play 😂 that’s why i just tell people to watch their feet and teeth and how it’s not doing any damage, and then they’ll do this random sneeze to let the other know they’re just playing. Having two helped with the loneliness and energy exertion so I always recommend getting another at some point if it’s feasible for a family. One thing I wish I knew about dobermans is their heart health issues. I was playing with my Apollo last year and all of a sudden I found that he dropped dead and CPR didn’t revive him. Come to find out this is somewhat common and had I known I would have gotten pet insurance very early on and done annual wellness/heart visits. Lovely girl, your videos are great!

My female Doberman was the same as yours. Slim, hyperactive, tucked belly and shiny coat-like shinned black shoes. And I completely agree their teenage phase is very rough the immense energy is too much for a medium-sized body haha. Also, agree that dob should be always on a leash coz they have high catch instincts and little rough/bully while playing with other dogs. We have to socialize dob early on with all kind of things from kids, animals, vehicles etc. Coz their attentive behavior can make them vary of many things

I own a three-year-old Doberman who is simply the best. Her loyalty, affection, and alertness are unparalleled. However, the puppy stage was extremely challenging. Her stubbornness, willfulness, excessive energy, and constant testing of boundaries were overwhelming. While all puppies present challenges, there's something particularly demanding about Doberman puppies. Their primal instincts are raw and unrefined. Yet, around 9-10 months, they begin to mellow subtly. By their first birthday, they've generally settled down and developed their adult personalities. For anyone considering a Doberman, be prepared for a challenging first year-they will test your limits. But as they mature, their soulful depth quietly surfaces, and you end up with the finest companion in the world.

Just found yr channel. Last wk & without warning my 8 yr old doberman died. I have been sick & torn since that day. I did everything with my Shiloh & I cant see my life without her. Ive had other dogs throughout my life but this one was different. She truly was. I decided to just flip thru the internet on my phone & found you. I see you love females too! Beautiful dog you have. I took such good care of her but she still got cancer. It was inoperable & she died in my arms last Friday. I just cant shake this awful heart wrenching feeling of loss & sadness. Ive had one other doberman before her & it was female as well. That one was so diff than Shiloh. Shasta was a rescue & back in the day we use to always have big dogs outside. That was where they belonged, is what we all thot. She passed away young too. It broke my heart but I had jst given birth to my daughter & did not have that much time to grieve. I always swore that I wld get another one day. Finally, that day came in 2017 & I got Shiloh who was already a beautiful 2 yr old. She was my first big dog in the house. She got along with my other small dog, a chipoo (part chiuahuah & poodle mixed) right away. Even though my little Cricket didnt want to have anything to do with her at first & Cricket was already an older dog. Before long Shiloh worked her way inside my husbands heart as well. She was so loving & kind, truly only wanted to please us. We 4 did everything together & Im so very glad we have those memories. I believed I wld lose my little Cricket before I lost Shiloh. That was not the case though. Idk why but Im still so broken & then happened upon yr video. I miss her so much! Im going to wait a while before ever getting another. They have quite a few health issues that I am now leery of. I cant see myself without a doberman but I also dont want them to die on me way before they are suppose to. Oh well, this might be my way of coping Idk. I jst sat & watched you & yr pretty girl & it was nice to hear you talking about them. Imo, they are the prettiest dog! The shiny black with the markings of reddish brown. One of a kind for sure & so truly loving. God bless you & yrs & thanks for sharing thru video. ❤👍

Good stuff. Most of it is spot on. It’s great to see someone put it on RU-vid soother owners see they are not going through “is this just my dog !!!” Hell. The constant nibbling on everything is one thing that causes a lot of stress in people’s lives. Their small pretty drive is so high that everything is prey when they are in adolescent stage. This who are not owners yet, but looking to bring a pup like a Doberman into their family they need to be aware. They are high maintenance and very attention oriented so don’t get a dobie and then get mad at them for being a dobie. You can’t blame an animal for doing what genetics and years of breeding have wrought. Oh, and I would recommend you take them in cars for rides when you go anywhere. They become good travelers and they become adjusted to cars and don’t get sick. We take our dobies everywhere and it helps to live in an area that is pet friendly at stores, etc. Washington just happens to be that. Oh, and find a good off leash dog park. We have a 40 acre park in Redmond and all three of our pups just love it. Even if no other dogs are around they can run like crazy, swim, play fetch and get the energy burn they need.

Very good advice! One thing i might add though, is be very careful going off leash and with dog parks. It really depends on where you live too. Dog parks can and often do have unstable or poorly trained dogs and we know Dobies generally play rough. The last thing you want is a negative encounter in a dog park. Off leash is a process too. I started that type of training with a 10ft leash and gradually went longer until I felt confident and found a safe area near me to let my girl off leash. Best of luck to all Dobie parents ❤

Thank you so much for the video, it gave me a good laugh that you emphasized the 9-12 month stage. My boyfriend and I, adopted a 9 month old Doberman (knowing absolutely nothing about the breed) and it makes a lot of sense what you say haha...we were going to just rehab him and give him to someone else but we fell madly in love. We adopted him in conjunction with a poodle (from a different home), go figure. So far, one of our best decisions. They are both extremely intelligent but him, wow. I'm impressed how he even stands out because I'm not lying, Chancy (poodle) is serious business but Hades, wow.

This is Louie our fawn Doberman in my profile pic. We got him at 8 weeks and he is now 5 years old. He is well trained, mellow now and we hike up and down mountain trails. We just took a trip to Moab, UT. He is a working dog so I work him. We do courses and he pulls me up hills when I say "go" and "pull". He literally is so in tune with me it feels like he reads my mind without me having to say anything. Great with kids, instinctively watches out for them at family and neighborhood gatherings. It takes some work but more than pays off with intelligent companionship. Incredible, faithful, intelligent, dedicated and affectionate breed. Louie is half European so he weighs in at 115 lbs of intense muscle. More of him to love....

@@BONES714 I’ve had three, all male, spread throughout my life. All different but all with similarities. Those similarities you described in this video is the essence of the bread. I am velcro with dogs, and so are they, so I spend tons of time with each of them. My only complaint is they don’t last long enough. I’ve yet to have one last past 6 years even though I’ve done everything to get a healthy dog.

I got a rescue Doberman when I retired February 2024 at 8 months old. She is the first Doberman I have ever owned. She has a bird and squirrel fetish, will cry and try to catch them. Has become Velcro 2 as her dachshund older brother is Velcro 1. Very smart and VERY needy. Just starting to talk to me now. Will whimper and make different noises, sometimes barking if I don’t give her all my attention at the moment

Owning a Doberman can be intense to some people. They are so smart and full of energy. You would think they would be like other skinny large breeds and be great apartment dogs. Nope! There hearing is a superpower! Not just hearing but sound recognition. We had a yorkie when we had ours and it was hilarious the stuff he would tolerate with her. He was laying down one day and the yorkie decided it wanted to play. He didn’t even bother getting up, he just moved his head all around with his mouth open, lol. The yorkie even tried mounting his snout and then back. She was a weird little thing, and fixed. He did seem to be more on the aggressive posture at dog parks. He never did anything, it just looked that way from my perspective. He spent 90% of that time sniffing every inch of the place rather than playing with toys or running with the other dogs. The affection they show is captivating, it’s why most Doberman owners will tell you they will always have Dobies in there life. I’ve seen some say they just can’t have them because of the feeling when they are lost. I had mine for over 12 years. I don’t know if another Doberman will help or not. I just know losing him was one of the most painful I’ve felt after losing something or someone. This past year has killed me. He was so much more than a pet or a service animal. He helped me more than I could put into words. I miss him so much. I’m not helping myself looking at Doberman videos. I’ve found a couple breeders nearby but living on DV pay and considered “unemployable(and even if I found a way to make extra money, the gain isn’t worth what I could possibly lose)”, I can’t afford $3,000-$7,000(yep, and 7k isn’t the most, just the most I’ve been quoted nearby.. ) I would be doing good to swing $1,000. I would probably have to sell something and even then it would be close. Im trying to save up and do my research on the breeders I find. I just really miss my dog..

A prong collar (Herm Sprenger) is the absolute best and safest collar. I have one on my 140lb presa and also on my 3lb chihuahua . It looks intimidating but its the safest tool out there when used correctly. It was created by a vet to prevent tracheal collapse in his patients and now worldwide

Why would you need a prong collar for a 3lb chihuahua? I'm not opposed to tools used correctly like you said. I just can't see the reason for it on a dog that size if they're trained? Just curious. No negative intention. ❤

@@UnfazedPhoenix Hi Jen, I started my chihuahua on a flat collar but sometimes he would refuse to move all of a sudden, and we would be on the road (some streets by our house, including ours does not have sidewalks). He has either almost slipped out of the collar or Im literally choking him out of fear that cars may not see him (he stands just above the curb, lol). More than once he has either slipped out of the collar or flung himself around charging at other dogs (now finally under control). Also, this collar is ESPECIALLY good for dogs that have sensitive neck/ prone to tracheal and larnyx injuries. The pressure on a prong is applied evenly yet does not restrict airways. It looks soo intimidating but its one of the most underrated tools and highly recommended by chiropractic vets if used properly and safely- like any device. I LOVE my dogs, I would NEVER do anything to hurt them or something that is detrimental to their health, wellbeing or spirit. The choke collar on the contrary is by far one of the worst and inhumane tools. I would never in a million years use that yet there is no controversy surrounding them because they dont look half as intimidating. If you have dogs, I highly recommend it. But make sure you learn how to fit and use it properly. It may save your dogs life or you some substantial vet bills. Thanks for the question.
