Based on what I see online I wouldn't recommend it. It's not made to neutralize acid. Here's what a google search said: Borax is a powdery white substance, also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate. It's widely used as a household cleaner and a booster for laundry detergent. It's a combination of boron, sodium, and oxygen.

Typically, bicarbonate of soda raises alkalinity, whereas soda ash raises pH. If your pool is still cloudy, run your filter pump for several hours to circulate the water and if that doesn’t help, you might need to clean your filter Media.

Hmm. that's strange. There must be something "leeching" the chemical out of your pool. I'm puzzled. My only suggestion is that you may need to add a bit more often til it stabilizes. Not sure what else to suggest MAYBE try a different brand of CYA.

When you use soda ash the water will turn cloudy but that should only last as long as it takes for the soda ash to dissolve. Once the soda ash is completely dissolved it should be fine and it should clear up. I’ve never had it stay cloudy. If your pool is cloudy it may be for other reasons. Always make sure that when you add soda ash to your pool you have your pump motor running during and for a couple hours after to help dissolving and dispersing the chemical

I was trained by a few different pool service owners who used soda ash to raise the pH of the pool. Typically soda Ash has little to no affect on the alkalinity. But if you want to try borax, you can try it.
