Casey Davidson demonstrates how to properly re-spool a spincast reel, and gives many tips along the way. ----------------------- Web: shakespeare-fishing.com Facebook: / shakespearefishing
You forgot the direction the filler spool is held.Your reel should turn the same direction the filler spool unwinds. If not your line will twist.lay the spool on the floor and make Shure your reel is winding the same direction the reel is giving off.
Perfect, thank you! I'd thrown two spin cast reels/ poles out after getting frustrated that they wouldn't cast right anymore, probably just needed to be re-spooled...
been using braided on my zebco 888 for several years now without issues, braid will not hurt any rod or reel if its rated for braided line, i use titanium guides on all my rods so no issues on any of those , thanks American tackle.
Not using braid on a spin cast reel is true for most reels of that type. The braid is more abrasive than mono or flouro and can damage the small line pick up pins as the line is reeled in. However, as stated by another, there are spin cast reels that can use braided line. I have two Zebco Big Cat (catfish reels) spincast reels and they are rated to use braided line. I have 40lb braid on them and have no problems with them. There are other large Zebco reels that are rated for braid and possibly other manufacturers models. Just be informed of what the rod or reel is rated for before you buy it .
@@genjutsu123 Basically you want the line to come off the top of the new spool of line and onto the top of the reel if that makes sense. The line retains memory so if you're reeling it onto your reel while the lines coming off the bottom of the spool, you will be wrapping it the opposite direction that it was just sitting on the spool which will cause it to want to not sit properly on your reel
@@TylerGreenMusic appreciate the reply. Hard for me to understand without seeing what you mean though. Does this mean when I make my knot I want it to sit at the top of the reel when I put the cover back on and start reeling the new line in?
@@genjutsu123 yeah I believe so if I understand you correctly. Think of it like winding film or something from one reel to another. You want it to go on in the same direction (counter clockwise) as its coming off. Hard to explain without visuals but if you look up videos on how to spool a baitcaster, they should mention this and show you.
That second knot he tied was a Granny knot, not an Overhand Knot. Either will work, but what he forgot to mention is that unlike the first Overhand Knot, the second one loops around the standing line.
You leave out one of the most important things and that is what direction or orientation the line spool should be in as the line is being spooled off of it..
I just finished servicing a shakespeare skp.9 spincast reel and ended up with a leftover locking washer. Any idea where I could find a schematic for it?
Hi Luigi, thanks for your message. We do not have schematics for our reels unfortunately, but you can check out our service page to contact an authorized service center near you for more information. www.purefishing.com/shakespeare-warranty-service
it the line is tied around the inner spool of the rod - how will cranking it make the line come in? doesn't it have to go thru the bell ? soooo confused!
I purchased a two and a half foot pole as a joke a year or two ago, attempted to use it, and was utterly dissapointed when the reel was not only the crappiest I've ever used, but made of the cheapest nastiest plastic. I put that pole away, until now. I'd recently dug up my old supplies, figured out that this thing still existed, and thought, "You know, this might be fun to try and restore." I ended up going back to my old stash, finding a slightly less cheap Shakespeare child's reel, because that's the only thing that would fit, and cleaned both rod and reel up. I started to watch this tutorial, because I mostly work with spinning reels, and not spincasters, did everything correctly, except that when I started to reel, the line would not wind around the center piece to be re-spooled. i tried doing what this very helpful guy said at least three times, and still had the same problem. I need to know why this is happening, but it's not urgent because this was a basket case anyway. If anyone with answers knows, can you comment some tips on how to fix it below?
there should be a small pin on the rotating mechanism that catches the line inside the cone. this is what physically wraps the line onto the reel. either your line isn't tight enough on the spool and the spool is spinning inside the loop (and not retrieving) or the pin isn't catching the line properly.
Gary Garrison, never mind. I ended up taking it fully apart, saw the pin, and it worked, but only if I turned the screw inside. I then figured out the problem is that the gear that spins the screw was no longer spinning. This happened because the plate that is normalIy attached to the gear and actual cranking device itself was detached from the gear. I attempted to hot glue gun it (yes, I'm an idiot, and no, it didn't work because of the oil inside) I then in a desperate attempt tightened the bolt on the outside, and when I got the perfect combination it finally worked. The problem is that it will keep disconnecting, so you have to play with it. The problem is, this keeps happening, so even if you get a small fish (bluegill, baby perch, etc) on that joke of a rod you'll be fighting for an hour with not the fish, but the reel itself. I might just bin the whole thing, or see if I have another crappy reel to try. It's not worth my time or money to restore it if it fails again. I'll just use my ugly stik and shimano spinning reel combo from now on.
@@yankeejedi2575 I saw on another video that the line should go on the reel the same direction as it peels off the store spool to prevent snags, either clockwise or counter. The tutorial is disappointingly incomplete, you would think a video labeled Shakespeare would be more thorough! They need to get their money back from this guy.
Hello team Shakespeare, i want to ask a question. I have an old spinning reel it is Banax SX4000. Whenever im putting a new line to it, the line become twist and the machine didnt have any problem as i know. May i know what are the real problem about the reel? pls help me
Amir Shahril hello im not with team shakespeare but not sure if your question was answered 😃 always make sure the line from the spool is taken off from the top not the botten thats how it is done on a reel spooler hope this helps
Ugh ... I'm getting nothing but a tangled mess!! I did not know that I might need to pay attention to the way the line came off the spool (ground floor rookie here), so I don't know how to place the new spool of line! I think the old line came off counter clock wise. I THINK! I've watched this video about 6 times and if it is said how to place the new spool, I'm not finding it. I'll flip the new spool and see if there's any improvement.
It’s literally doing nothing but twisting it am I doing something wrong here? Edit: the string was too big i bought a smaller one and it worked out better if you have the same issue as me where it spins but the string doesn’t it means you didn’t do it tight enough or your string is too big for your rod
Thanks for sharing this view especially the view in yellow. Helped me see what you're doing. I also liked the tip of tying a small knot on end of line.
I REALLY appreciate finding an instructional video done by a pro that doesn't say "um" every other word. Your video was easy to understand, the instructions were solid and the instructor was easy to listen to. Thank you very Much!!
I am 67 and have been fishing all my life. I haven't fished much in 25 years but I am having lots of trouble re-spooling my spincast reels today. The line keeps twisting and tangling. Help
NOTE: If you use this method (lying the filler spool on the floor) if you have it right the line will come off without twisting, if you have it wrong the line will twist up. If your line is twisting, just flip the filler spool over.
I have a synergy 1402 Ti that the pins come out when reversing the handle and retreating when reeling in. I have tried reversing the handle but still doesn't work properly. Is there way to have the pins come out on retrieve and pins (2)?
Joe Brann you might check out the new Zebco Bullet. I don't know how the spinner that winds the string will hold up but considering the winding pins are bearings rather than a little pin like they've always been. It might do a little better
One thing you forgot to mention is which direction the line is supposed to come off the spool of line and how it should come off so it doesn't tangle or cause issues.
Bought my daughter a Shakespear Ladyfish Spincast and the thing got tangled so bad the second time out that it's practically useless and impossible to repair. The line is tangled all around the top part and you can't get to it. What a waste of money.
Livereater00 No he didn't dummy. It's called an arbor knot and is the most widely used knot for tieing line to a spool. The loop constricts on a bitenand uses the strength of the wrap- not the knot. I've been spooled by a striper and the arbor knot held. And what's so complicated about 2 overhand knots versus u tieing 3 that won't hold?.
@@NFL88 Hey dummy. Been in the game awhile NEVER ever seen a clown slip a arbor knot. He's either showing off or just making things more difficult for NEWBIES THAT HAVE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE YOU DOPE. I knew exactly what he was doing. It's a simple thing to do. That hooker really tied you too tight kido.
Well people with kids who use a spin caster might want to know since their kids break the line a lot or snag a lot might want to be able to just put fresh line on.
