The Coleman 275, commonly referred to as "The Turd" is something every real collector has but maybe doesn't want to admit. This model was the first in the US with a schrader valve for fuel shutoff. The design was radically different than any previous US lantern and it quickly earned a poor reputation. The schrader valves aged poorly and leaked resulting in lanterns that fireballed when they were lit or just wouldn't shut off. Fortunately the schrader valve is pretty easy to replace with a few simple tools.
This particular 275 is the "Joe B. Lantern" which was given to me in retaliation for a particularly horrible AGM stove I hid in Joe B's truck after a gathering at the cabin. When I first got it the valve was stuck, the vent nut was missing, there was no glass and somebody had stenciled initials on the vent.
Believe it or not this video took over a year to make, I first started shooting it on Feb 4, 2017. Due to unfamiliarity with a new camera everything I shot was out of focus so I shot it again, and again, and again. This project required a total of 4 schrader valves since removing the valve pretty much destroys it. I've never had a video I was so glad to complete.
