How to Rebuild a Trac-Loc Positraction - Yukon Gear & Axle 

Oh, I see. The spare set of pinion gears is installed and then compressed to give more room to slide in the spider thrust washers, compressing the lower clutch plate. By holding the axle in a vice you can rotate the entire housing and those spider gears rotate into position. Many won't have a second set of spider gears, so I presume you end up with a second bolt, and all the difficulty rotating because both clutch plates are compressed....

Using those 2 extra gears is brilliant.. It forces the lower side gear down allowing the other spider gears to be free(er)..

Please show and explain in more detail the order of the disc, plates etc. Thanks

this does not apply to axles that have c-clips as the cross shaft would have to be removed to install the c-clips. then apply red loctite. btw the spare spider gears come from also replacing them and using old ones as spares.

One question: Once you finish all the installation, is it normal that the gears are locked and are not easily moved by hand?

what about the s spring that ford uses on these? typically needs a vise to compress it?

Who has a random axle shaft laying around?? Every video I've seen doesn't show the other 1000 curse words or headaches!!!

Or just buy the special tools and save yourself headache.
