Today was a interesting video as I rebuilt the clutch and replaced the spider gears in a Dana 80 that was in a Ford F350 Dually. Not sure what had happened but this differential was sure abused at some point. The spider gears had all started to break apart and the Trac-lok was completely destroyed. You couldn't even see any clutch friction pad left on the discs.

Great video, thanks for the info. I got a 2006 f350 Dana 80 with all the teeth on the spiders blown out😬. I sent my truck off a jump last year, loaded to 11500lbs, it was probably that😅🤣

@@TestDontguess Try to stay away from the COVID. LOL. In the big picture, we have been busy. Snow removal was really good this year. We hope to grow even more next season. The transport side is a little sluggish cause of the pandemic. The family is happy and healthy at the moment. I hope you are keeping well brother.

good video. That beveled washer is actually a spring, a Belleville Spring Washer. Pressurizes the clutch pack

the good Powr-Lok clutch disks dont have any friction material. They're Metal on metal when new. Those still needed to be replaced though. Good vid thanks for it!!

Just pulled a Salisbury unit off of a series 2 E-Type, clutch discs were the same, found a broken shim in there too off the pinion somewhere. Luckily the gearset remained intact it is impossible to get them here across the pond. Thanks for the video!

Shouldn't the friction clutch plates have been soaked in gear oil or limited slip additive for a few hours before installing?

You can if you really want too, they come pre-oiled

Yeah when rebuilding a PowrLok with friction disks you're supposed to soak in friction modifier for 24 hours, personally I don't like using disks with friction material on them. I prefer the factory Dana Steel Disks and a Belleville Disk for a more aggressive engagement.

The good thing about these clutch style LSDs are you can wear all the friction material away and not worry about it. In the end, you will have an open diff. I am searching around looking to see what kind of diff would be good to replace mine with, or do I just replace the plate?

From what I found the carrier case bolts are 90 ft lbs

Did you have to re shim the ring gear when you put it back together or just put it back together the way it was

I just pulled my clutch pack and have 12 disks per side. I'm totally confused now, because I can't find anything about this set up. I need a new clutch pack, but can't find any suppliers for the 12 disk pack

I've been researching this for two weeks (never found any answers) and finally ordered this set that's listed in the video description from Amazon. I had a total of 24 disks in my old set and it was totally throwing me off. I received the new clutch pack and it appears this is a new style clutch pack that only has 8 disks per side. I checked the thickness between the two packs and they are the same. I'll be uploading a review including the documents that came with the new clutch pack to the Amazon link I ordered from in this RU-vid description. I'm sure there are many others out there looking for this info.

What year is that?? I have a 2008 and it looks totally different.. It wasn't mine new, so maybe it had already been redone with something different.. Thanks for sharing

How is the Break in done when complete? We just had ours done in our 2009 Ford F350 by a reputable shop and was told it could take up to 2,000 (2 thousand) miles before it is completely broke in. Did he mean before it breaks again, LOL🤣🤣

Aren't you supposed to pre-oil all of that stuff? Oil isn't going to get into that clutch pack and bearings soon enough by just filling. I rebuilt a PowrLok which made it clear to presoak everything for a day before assembly. As I don't like doing things twice...that's what I did.

Takes a lot to destroy it like that - much have had some heavy loads and a heavy foot :)

This is such a cool design,as compared to the Dana 44 ..no need for compressing the side gears in order to install the spider gears..Fucking nightmare

I just replaced the clutch kit on my dodge ram 1998, and now the small spider gears won't fit. It's to tide. Any suggestions? Thanks

Supposed to soak the friction plates for minimum of 30 minutes prior to install

as you can clearly see in the video the friction pads already have oil, once they are installed and differential is fill with oil the clutches are wet........ soaking for 1/2 hour isn't doing anything

Stock LSD.s really don’t last long.Ive fixed lsd with only 20 thousand on the odometer

Just pulled my dads out. Everything was ok except the clutch pack and the wheel bearings are toast. Now I have to get the axle fixed and rebuild this bitch.

I have a 02 3500 Cummins Duallt with the Dana 80, my spider gear and clutch packs were destroyed, I went to a buddies 96, and I took his internal gears ring gear and everything, I am wanting To use his internals on mine should I change my ring gear onto his carrier and try to put it in or?
