I must say your a good and very easy to understand all down to the needy grid on your very understanding step by step. I just started somewhat small business HOBY Im a 70 year old retired long distant tuck driver and a work a Halleck . I just watch your and others so I can learn. Your a good caring man on your mechanical Thanks for all your help
This is an excellent video. Thanks. It’s good to read other’s comments as well - just in case something might not be correct (other contributions). But, just an excellent review of these carbs.
Great video, bought a pre-owned scooter with 15,000k's on it, ran extremely poorly, clogged out, struggled to start on occasions. Removed the carb and gave it a full clean out, runs like a dream! Thanks bro
Best video for cleaning the carburetor! With this video you are sure that the carburetor is good for starting. Check the starter for cold start (put it in the freezer and then in hot water and measure the difference in length, 2 to 5 mm).
Nate, You are my new mechanical idol! Your knowledge base for how carburetors work is phenomenal. I just took apart and cleaned one for my fly 50 which is identical to yours and now she purrs like a kitten. Thank you much and keep up the good work!
@@debraj5011 Clogged jets. I opened it up and took a very thin wire from a thinner wire and unclogged it. Then I flushed it out with carb cleaner and changed the gas filter. You can even buy a new carburator on line and resolve it that way.
Wow, just a wonderful video. I was intimidated by the thought of cleaning my carb but with your precise, easy-to-understand directions I'm ready to jump in. Thanks very, very much!
Detailed video; very helpful. My issue was retaining an idle, and diagnosised my issue (mixture screw) w/o having to take the whole thing a part. Thank you!
@@MNDashcam Found something very strange during the carb cleaning. The tube from the accelerator pump where it feeds into the air passage after the venturi area has no hole in it! No way for the fuel to squirt! Ever seen this before?
Excellent video, I have watched so many videos regarding clean your carburetor and this guy is the best and most detailed I've ever seen. Aloha and Mahalo for your kokua (help) Konaboyz Honolulu Hawaii
You did a great job. Thank you. This video was a very helpful instructional to my learning experience. Most profound one to me as well. Continue being thorough brother.
My moped was seriously back fireing and I was thinking it was carb nope it was my spark plug the hole time it was sparking where the wires connect. When I was ride it would bogg down to where I was only going 5mph and wouldn't accelerate at all it back fire so keep a eye on the spark plug if you are having problems and the one I was using was the orange spark plug
Hello MNDashcam Thanks for the video. I just wanted to share a helpful tip with you. When you disconnect the fuel line, it is safer to plug off the fuel line with a Phillips Screwdriver or appropriate size bolt. This is extremely helpful in many instances such as if you needed to move the fuel line to remove a part, and it also allows you to move it anywhere that you need so it is out of the way when working in that area and prevents accidently catching it with a tool or other parts. This ensures that you dont suddenly have to drop everything ion your hands and have to deal with spilt fuel everywhere. Anyways hope this helps.
LMAO...Luvv'd the abrupt ending, after the viewer gets engrossed in to the intensive detailed process... *POW* .."oops, camera died" ....hilarious dood :0 I always say if ya took it off and went through the disassembly/cleaning process, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to put it back on ;) Excellent job on both, the video, and the carb overhaul job ;)~
Hi there, I loved this video and it helped out a lot, but It didn´t give the final solution in my restoration case. My oldest daugthers scoter GY6 has been standing without use for some years and now, when I tried fix it and start it to get it ready for my youngest daughter, it wouldn´t start. Well so much I found out that spark is allright, but no gas. After loking at your video and cleaning the carburetor over and over again, I found out that pilot jet (and some other holes also) are stucked because the copper in material has oxidized and became into some sort of stone in the holes that should be open. Carburetor cleaner or brake cleaner will not work on those stains, so I had to figure out some other approach. What I did was to heat water to boiling point and add some lemon acid crystals in it. (2 dl water 15-25 ml lemon acid crystals) and sink the stucked part into the solution. I think vinegar might work as well, I have used it for removing rust from iron. I stirred it around and replaced the solution twice, because the solution works best, when it´s hot... and "voila" - most of the oxide vanished. I have to admit I was impatient and used one single copper fiber from a electrical wire tiny enough to penetrate the hole in pilot jet and after some trying it was cleared. I don´t know if this is recommendable, but I had very few options left, as spare parts for these scooters are very rare in Finland and if you happen to find some those are "fu***ng" expensive. Ordering from China is one option, but delivery time is several weeks. Feel free to comment.
My SYM carburetor scooter over half year that engine does not working in Taiwan! After I push scooter start motor switch and then I got some situations as below: (1) engine cylinder pressure is 126psi (2) spark plug has flash (3) fuel tank does not working to push gasoline via fuel filter out? Do you have some idea to help to fix my breakdown SYM scooter here, thanks!
My primary jet doesn't have a hole straight through, is this normal? What happens if you lose the ball bearing next to the jet? I replaced mine with a lip ring ball and am hoping it works. Also, I have a small washer that doesn't seems to fit anywhere. It just kinda fell out of the carb. This video was the shit, it helped alot. Hoping it fixes my issue.
Dear Sir, I followed your procedure to process my GY6 scooter carburetor here, and then I set it up on my scooter already! Few days ago, I try to start engine for test carburetor situation, I found a lot of gasoline through carburetor upper pipeline out! I don’t understand what reason make happen is? Do you have any suggestion for that? Thanks!
Dear Nate, truly hope i get a response. If not from you maybe from one of your supporters can get me an answer. I unfortunately stuck a drier sheet on the carb were the filter should be due to it disappearing and that is what was available to continue my ride home. Upon getting up to 38 say 40 mph my scooter just slowly came to a stop i had no acceleration at all. Pulled over and peaked around and noticed drier sheet was sucked in side. I pulled out all (i thought) and i still have not been able to start it. Yes i have taken it off and cleaned it, ive checked every single thing possible from starter relay, motor, sparkplug, coil, fuel filter, hoses and all. Still just get the wir wir sound and not starting up. Just whining. PLEASE HELP!!
I got a 2011 Lintex scooter 150cc. The thing has been sitting around a while. Its really bad at cold starts and will improve after it warms up. Lately, after its been sitting for another 4 months without it being used or turned over, it won't fire up. It get a small spark but its not getting an idle at all. Charging battery now. I was told from someone at a bike shop that its most likely the electric choke is bad. Do you think it just needs cleaning or do you think the choke needs replacing? You think I need to clean the Carb too? Thanks in advanced and you are subscribed! Awesome job on the video too!!
if you haven't already, clean the carb out. likely the idle circuit is partially clogged and having trouble with cold starts. after this long though, a full carb rebuild is recommended
helo ..u made a mistake,,in the carburetor botom pice(aka bowl) u wil find a brass jet under her is a small spring under the spring is a small bal bearing used as check valve ,,u did not put her under the spring
@ 12:40 Actually, with the engine off it is in a retracted state. When the engine has been running it extends the needle outwardly. Without any enricher installed it would be in a constant state of being "choked". This is what I understand to be true, not 100 percent sure.
Awesome video with great tips! Now I know it's an old video but I have serious issues with my carburetor for my Chinese 50cc scooter, I don't get any fuel into the cylinder at all. Any idea what it can be?
I think my problem was that I didn't tighten the hose clamp holding the carburetor in place inside the intake. Those GY6 engines are very sensitive about that.
Hey Nate or anyone. Was going to take my 2015 ice bear carburetor apart to clean it going by Nate's video. To my surprise the carburetor bowl is permanently attached with rivets to the carburetor body. No screws to take the bowl off. Any advise or do I have to buy a new carburetor. If that's the case where is a good source to purchase one.
I've never seen one permanently attached with rivets. Perhaps a previous owner couldn't find the screws and did it in a pinch? I'd recommend getting another carburetor that serviceable.
Great video. Very clear. Thorough. Question: I have this carb on my moped. Stored it a few months. Now it won't start unless I have the throttle fully open and then only stays running if I keep it open. It's flooding. I cleaned out the float bowl. I used compressed air. Too aggressive? I'm assuming my float isn't closing properly. But as I've cleaned it all out well, what else would cause flooding other than faulty float?
I have a hammerhead 150 cc Chinese go kart/buggy. I have a problem where the buggy turns on fine, but as soon as you tap the peddle for gas, it'll completely die out. I already cleaned out the carb twice already. It stays on, but as soon as you give it gas, it'll just die. Already checked for vacuum leaks, new spark plug, new fuel regulator, fresh gas, fresh oil, new battery.
Sounds like it's either flooding or not getting gas, if it's flooding you'd likely smell gas, your main jet might not be the right size for your location or the accelerator pump in the carb is bad, when you figure you can buy a factory new carb for a 49 cc scooter for $25 a little more for the 150cc, it might be the best way to go and then you know everything is clean, new, unworn and unmessed with.
i got a question on 2004 vento triton r4's gas tank's part on the bottom. under the gas tank there a silver thing holding with a gold 21mm bolt. the silver thing has two ports, on the side goes to small port of carburetor by a black hose. the lower port of the silver thing was clogged and I cleaned connected (hose) to a fuel filter (cleaned & check good) to hose to carburetor. do you know what it the silver thing under the gas tank called? i removed the spark plug out of the engine, but tested that it sparks. but when i disconnected the lower part black hose under the silver thing i see no gas coming out. i know my carburetor is not the same as your but the principle of cleaning should be the same, i guess. battery (also tried with 12vdc car battery) is new with 12vdc with 5amp & starter turn once pressed the start button. what is your recommendations to get my daughter scooter up & running before the winter set in Oymyakon? i am a woman, so i have no knowledge of car/scooter. but i can following directions. by the way, wonderful tutorial without editing.
The silver thing is called the petcock. The fuel line connects to the upper port and the vacuum line the lower. The other end of the vacuum line should connect somewhere in your intake boot between carb and engine. Sounds like you have your fuel line hooked up on the wrong port. Just flip them around.
***** the side or upper port of the petcock is connected (hose) to the input of the fuel filter, then the output is connected (hose) to the carburetor. the bottom on the petcock has a hose connected straight to carburetor (closest to in the intake holding on strap with phillip screw. No fuel coming out of the petcock when i start & turn on, only the starter come on. thank you, thank you for letting me know the name, "petcock". with your help, i think the petcock can not be repaired because it's sealed. broken too many fingernails and the makeup didn't do much here in the summer. so i will order a petcock.
angelisone I think you have your hoses in the wrong places.. The lower one is for the vacuum pressure that opens the petcock when the engine is turning over and lets gas through, the upper one goes directly to the carb. If both are going to the carb, you won't get any vacuum and no fuel. Chances are the petcock is fine and you just need to reroute your lines
my smaller main jet was blocked but all else very clean , pushed a bike cable wire strand through it so now l see the light through , one said air coming into tank can be blocked so vacuum builds up and gas goes down too slow.
I would caution against using metal of any kind to clean the jets. If you scratch the inside of the jet up, it can affect the flow and actually cause more harm than good.
l thought of that but l doubt it , wire goes freely to the middle where the block was, there it may be forced to the side and scratch but so what, pipe is mostly unscratched most of the way to the middle, would it make turbulence in the gas fluid and make it go out unevenly , dont think so or that it would matter. hmm but l know little.maybe the wire was too thin and bent and bent on end , saw piano guitar wire recommended , if its straight and almost filling the bore and might sand the edge and drill through with it
I checked the main jet and cleaned it out. the smaller jet next to it seems to not have a hole straight through, only smaller holes the sides. Are you familiar with something like that or do you think its clogged w debris?
Nate Sand thanks for the reply. you were right. it was clogged like I had never seen before. I almost ruined my cleaning wires. I replaced it with a new needle and it started up like a champ.
thersten glad to hear. if you have any more questions about it or anything automotive, feel free to message my page. I believe the link is in a comment above.
Ok actually the unit that you are referring to as a primer is not correct. The unit is a acceleration pump. Ok i must have missed the float adjustment procedure. Do we not check it? Also on the enrichment valve which you call choke do we not do check it for 100% proper operation ? there is a procedure . Kind of concerned about your definition on each unit or what its function is on the carburetor . Do not for any reason take shortcuts or bypass the float height or level check and adjustment ... needle and seat need to be right... and opening and closing AND AT THE RIGHT LEVELS IN THE BOWL... ALSO LETS TRY TO CHECK VENT OFF GAS TANK FOR PROPER OPERATION ..IF ITS RESTRICTED AND BUILDS PRESSURE IN GAS TANK WHAT DOES THAT AFFECT IN CARB. OPERATION? LETS DO IT RIGHT .. DONT MICKY MOUSE OR HALF ASS IT.
Randall Highsmith While I agree on some of your points, I have yet to see a more well presented video of this carb overhaul. I suggest you make a video that covers all the missed points.
soak in parts cleaner they say over night , or can try gasoline . piano wire someone said, its stiff , maybe guitar wire maybe turn it so cut end works like a drill on dirt. but some say no wire cos it scratches hole
One can buy a brand new one for around $25 and then know it's new and clean and unworn and not have to mess with issues caused by wear, age or dirt. These carbs are cheap and cheaply made and hardly worth rebuilding. Replace with new and make sure there is an in-line FILTER in the fuel line and that it's clean. I'd also replace any original rubber hoses- all of them, the chinese rubber is crap and starts breaking down and winds up in the carb, replace the fuel line with NAPA fuel line and a good in-line filter and then never leave fuel in the system if you store the bike overwinter. If it was a genuine Keihin carb or similar then yeah, worth rebuilding, but most of the Keihin carbs advertised for scooters for like $25 are cheap chinese knockoffs, some forge the Keihin name on the castings and others I've seen alter the name slightly in a blatant effort to get around trademark infringement while fooling buyers who think "Kelhin" or the like is actually "Keihin"
im so stupid dude when i reassembled my carb i put the needle above that plastic clip in the diaphragm so the spring wasnt holding the needle down at all which was making my idle erratic
wonder, if , to avoid varnish , caused by evaporation of gas in hot weather in carb maybe , and for cleaning before glogging, have a split pipe for gas on cab,, a petcock , another pipe to a can of cleaner , flush out the carb after use with cleaner , open drain screw first or.would save this much work of cleaning maybe yearly. ........ my carb now is not draing anything, and plug did not get wet, and much water was comeing down fuel line at first. so l will not clean all maybe at first, just then fuel pipe going in and tunnel . was thinging about strong suction with tube and vacuum cleaner but a video said no blowing air if membrane si in place , no sucking either then......and gas flow from tank seems a bit slow. vacuum problem maybe. ........ great vid but focus not the best on cam , but does not matter really....... mine is qinqi rs 450 50 cc also called rex and jack fox l think . same carb as in this vid. but choke taller....l did not use carb cleaner , just a rag and my fingars and scraped with scewdriver , thin wire from bike cable through jets. some jets were too tight hard to unscrew ,put a drop of wd on them first might help, must use right size head of screwdriver, smallr jet or was it bigger, seemed ,, saw no light through it, hole too small maybe. small jet leading to a rod sticking out in airway seemed , well the jet was clear but tunnel under it not clear for air blowing , used the run off drain rubber tube put it hard pushed on openings of tunnels and blow with mouth and hear if comes out somewhere. carb was full of water and dirt. and since l did not remove choke or diapharm , first tie choke wires to carb or wires will break from bending back and forth often. tank needs to be cleaned and new filter l guess.
Jis screwdriver. Not a Phillips. They work a lot better. A mini vice grips or even a tiny chisel is sometimes even necessary to break them free. Once in a while I even had to bust out the Dremel and turn the screw head into a flathead so I can use a big flat screwdriver to bust it out.
