How to record a phone call for a podcast on Zoom H6 or Zoom H8 recorder

well, that is sort of the same feeling I had. Despite that, after using h8 now for about a year I would not go back to h6. This touch screen and improved little ergonomics here and there are just so easy to get used to. None of it is a killer feature though. So if I would be driven by the budget, and it would mean for me to stretch it to h8, I would simply go with the money I have and get the h6.

so the microphone is hooked up to the zoom H8 , but the output speaker is remaining on the phone. imagine it like a headphones hooked up to the phone where you can choose to keep the microphone from the headset but the speaker on the phone

Oh man , this is too specific for music production. I have never delt with guitar and those effects, so i will not be qualified to help you. I can only guess that I all internal guitar effects would work as they would be part of the guitar output, so H8 would capture those. And than I would record each device on the separate inut. Probably =)

oh man, I am not sure is it zoom h6 or h8 you refer to. And 128 GB sounds like a LOT.. it's small sound files it produces =) So I am havong 32 and 64 and super happy with it... Can store a year of projects on it. And any high-speed memory card will work. Like SanDisk Extreme PRO series

@@martinosborne5280 so the part is called RØDE VXLR adapter, they cost about 12 usd here in Sweden.

and if you are going to invest into one, i'd actually recommend you gettign a RØDE VXLR + . This version with plus is about twice the price but than you can connect your LAV mics to any existing XLR slot without having a risk to FRY your lapel mic. The plus version will convert the phantom power(24 or 48 volts) that the H8 provides to the plugin power (around 4 volts) that your LAV mic needs.

think about it in a way, as if you plug in the regular headset, like apple wired headset, into your phone and that headset can also save your entire conversation. I understand, its a lot of wires there, so i hope this analogy would make it a bit easier ?

@@manCaveSweden Based on more youtube videos, it seems like you still have to set up mix-minus for the phone caller to hear you, sounds pads, and anyone else through the recorder.

Yes, 1. you might need to have a usb to usb-c adapter to hook up your zoom with the phone. 2. Set the zoom recorder to be the audio interfac. 3. Chose the external mic in the setting when you shoot a video from your phone.

If you are using zoom as a recorder, it can handle anything you plug into it. But it will only record to the internal card. If you are using it as an audio interface, you can configure the output as stereo mix or multi-track. For the multi track, you will have to define what happens with those tracks when they exit zoom.- either they will go to the zoom meeting session as an audio source or somewhere else. This configuration you will need to do after the signal exits zoom recorder, and you might need some extra equipment if you want to split the signal from the guitar, microphone etc. It's a rather complex question , if you ask me as i dont own an electric guitar snd cannot experiment

Hi, by a lucky coincidence I own a videomic from rode. I think you might want to look at the zoom XYH capsule that has a line in, where you can plug in the video mic. Otherwise use the adapter to XLR input that zoom h8 has on the sides.

@@manCaveSweden thanks for the info man. Video mic ntg doesn’t come with a xlr cable right ? What cable need to be used to connect ? Getting a capsule would be expensive than cable

are you using the original lightning to 3,5 mm adapter?

No, the bluetooth adapter Will Alle you control it remotely. Like press play and pause etc.

the H8 is slightly better than H6 and I think H6 was a bit better in it's specs than H5. But if you are not using it for the HiFi stuff you would be doing just great with your H5. If you like it and if you have functions you need, just go for it. I am though thinking about upgrading to the Zoom F6. Maybe that;s an overkill for me but it seems to be compact and have much better specs / low noise versus the H8 . Nevertheless in the Postporcessing you cancorrect most of those noices with just one click...

ah, that's a good suggestion! The quality was ok as for the call recording , but not studio quality of course

Absolutely! If you record a call you should always inform a counterparty about that!
