How to Record PS4 Audio When Using Headsets 

It's mind-boggling that the PS4 has been out for years now and Sony still hasn't fixed something as simple as making audio able to output from the controller and HDMI at the same time.

Why would they make it this difficult

If you have a second controller join a party with your mates. With the second controller join the party and with an aux cable plug into 2nd controller and straight into Elgato. Then on setting in Elgato software change the audio via aux it should work with all headsets. Like so everyone can see this

This was in 2017... They still dont have a software update for this...

I plugged my headset into my tv with the 3.5 headphone jack thingy and it worked.

I spent like 5 hours just messing with random settings and plugging in and cord in any combination I could I swear I did the thing with the chat link like 7 times but now is the first time it worked

I just came here to figure out how to hear my ps4 through the headset and see it getting captured on my elgato. Someone mentioned plugging in their headphone jack to their tv. So I just plugged my headphone into my gaming monitor and made sure my audio output device was set to TV! Glad this worked!! i would’ve been pissed to have to order and wait for another cord to hook up.

At 03:12 you describe that it is possible with Headset they has an optical input. But I don't understand if the party- and game-chat with that workaround also possible.

For anyone with a buzzing sound, take out the charger when you're using the chat link, if you want to charge your controller whilst using the chat link, the best way is plugging the usb part which would usually go into your PS, into a surge protected socket. I use my iPhone plug to do that. I don't really know of any other solutions

Here it is 2019 and I guess the update never came? I love my PS Platinum wireless headset but did not know it would keep me from capturing audio when I finally stepped up and got an Elgato. So sad. It seems like the 3.5 splitter and cables everywhere is what I wanted to get away from when I got the wireless headset. Come on Sony!!!

When using the PS4 pro, do u plug the other end of the chat link cable into the monitor where u play from or stream?

I'm using an analog headset, with the double jacks for mic AND audio. I have the adapter to make it a single one. I am able to record game audio when using my headset, as well as picking up my friend's voices when in party chat. However, the PS4 does not pick up the microphone on my headset, and therefore, I am unable to talk back to them. When switching it the other way around, (Headset cables into controller and chat link one into the Elgato, they can then hear me, but obviously there is no game audio being recorded). Is there a way that I can both record game audio with this setup, as well as picking up party chat, AND being able to talk back to them? Thanks. :)

Is this the same way to get audio for a xbox one controller now.That is has the built in 3.5mm headphone jack in the controller itself.

HOw do I configure for the lightning AV Adapter for iphone. The audio goes to the HDMI cable, and there is a delay of elgato. If I plug a headphone on Line of Elgato can I hear the audio form device in real time?

okay so Ive had a lot of problems. I play with a headset and I found out that the elgato software only records what comes out of the tv so I got a audio splitter to hear in my headset and come out of the tv. So now the software picks up game audio but my mic I have plugged into my computer for my stream to hear isnt working. I dont know if there is any correlation but this is my last fix before I can start streaming. any help would be appriciated! edit: It does detect my mic as an option and I do have live commentary enabled I just know its not working because the bar isnt moving.

1:56. Yeah, issue with that part as any subtle movement to the cable or jack creates VERY loud crackling static sounds. Anyway to fix that hardware issue?

One thing i've been wondering about. When you update the software for elgato. Is there a limit to what older consoles you can record like the PS2? even if you still have the original elgato?

If I do this with the chat link can I use my headset mic to do commentary while streaming and for this to be captured with the capture card?

When i did this, there was no longer any audio in my astros... There was only sound from my tv and on my elgato, any tips??

Hi, I've watched a lot of videos on how to setup HD60s+ but I have no sound on stream when playing from ps4. I have my Elgato game capture set to analog and ps4 settings are as instructed. However the hd60s+ doesn't have a sidebar to control volume or change device. When in streamlabs the I have sound in my headphones but not for the stream. Sometimes it doesn't even seem connected as there is no bar showing that sound is working. Other times the bar is there but not showing any sound?

What happens if you have an Elgato HD (not a HD60)and your living in the Uk? Apparently the chat link isn't available in my country for some reason...

So the chat link will get the party chat and game sound but you need to get another mic that Connects to you computer so your live stream chat can hear you ??

i got a chat link and did everything, i can hear the ps4 audio in my headphones but in Streamlabs OBS the audio bar above the "elgato capture card" doesn't move. is there no way for me to hear the game through my headphones but also feed audio through to the stream?

I am thinking of getting this chat link cable but not a lot of people have shown how to connect it to the A0 TR mix amp/ They just say you can. How would I connect the cable to my mix am for recording party chat? I am using the HD60 as well.

the chat link, say i have a different cheaper capture card that doesn't have line-in, could i use the chat link and connect it to the mic port on my computer and record audio like that??

I am able to capture using HDMi in audio output and then plugging earphones (analogue into the laptop). A little bit of messing around and I can't use my gaming headset, but it does work.

Whats the best workaround for the old Astro A50? It has optical and i think it had analog to controller as well but i've only ever used it with USB.

does this record your voice as well at 1:54 or does it only record game audio and your party audio, like do you still need a secondary mic to record your own sound

I’ve been using the elgato hd60s , and having to keep the preview window open while I record on the ps4, and dealing with my voice delay, for monthsss now, it is so frustrating..I even bought the chat link, 2 MAJOR ISSUES- #1 I don’t wanna use my old astros along with its mic to talk, I have a sexy audio technica I bought to talk through. #2..if you wiggle or move the chat link in any way , it creates a crackle noise.. When or will there ever be a update to fix this?........

Hi, I can't hear the ingame sound through the audio jack while the HDMI adapter is connected and the audio monitoring through elgato is delayed. I'm using the HD 60 pro capture card. How can I fix this for real time audio while recording? Please help.

HELP! I i have elgato hd 60 pro and astros a40 with mixamp and the chatlink. Connected astros to the female jack, and chat link to mixamp, also connected the optical at the back of the ps4, and usb in the front all there's left to plug in is the male jack to the pc but i dont know where ._. since everytime i plug it in it makes weird sounds. and i also put the output device in tv or av amplifier but now i cant listen to any sounds through the headset -_-

Will the workaround for USB / Optical headsets like the Astros allow me to be both hearing game sound through the headsets like normal while getting HDMI audio for the recorded footage? Or will this mean that we won't get audio out of the headsets while playing and recording?

OK I tried your set up astro mix amp works better the reason the cable piece that you guys provide I got to of on from you guys and every time I plug it in it ends a making this annoying sound

With the last type of headset (usb/optical) if you output to hdmi will you be able to hear anything through the headset, or will it go through the pc first and have that half second delay???

This worked for me for a few months but a couple weeks ago I noticed that my game recordings do not have any audio. I am not sure what happened. I followed the steps this morning now I do not have any game audio via the astro50 headset but the elgato has sound. It seems like one or the other.(PS4)

That's great and all But the real issue is hd60s voice echoing when doing commentary I watch multiple videos on RU-vid and still no solution to this problem. Is the hd60s is a failure? because there is still no tutorial on that subject on the Elgato RU-vid page ?
