Its been 6 times that i was "Fired". Only ONE job that was truly a termination while the rest were laid off. And each time I get laid off I get a better job. I see it as a blessing in disguise.
Average??? NO. There r ppl that r let go and fired from their jobs because of personality conflicts.... sometimes because of nepotism.... sometimes it's the universe way of saying to a person to start their OWN business. Some people are NOT meant to work for an organization or for other people forever
Hey Jedi, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it more than you know. And yes, some people are NOT cut out to work for the MAN! That was/is ME!
I got laid off from pwc and I was picked up by kpmg. I’m gonna raid big 4 for whatever experience I can get, then I’m gonna start a small accounting firm and differentiate myself by doing cyber security.
I was let go from my job last year just before covid-19 and they told me I was not a good fit for them. It was embarrassing, it was demoralizing, disheartening, defeating, heartbreaking, etc... I was totally unprepared for what was about to happen. After my exit meeting they thanked me for my efforts and contributions
This man is indeed the gift that keeps on giving. I could watch his videos for hours and just marvel at his energy, intelligence, passion and amazing persona despite not being with us anymore. Such a truely rare gem 😊 Thank you for continuing to bless the world with your work and essence Mr Clarke...May God continue to comfort the family you left behind and may he bless your soul, even as you continue to rest in peace 🙏🏾🌹💙
60 year old man. Been fired several times in my day for vague and wishy-washy reasons. Sometimes during the probationary period. I now press employers in the interview process to specifically give the expectations for the job. Most look at me like a deer in headlights, or they become triggered and angered I dare ask this. Employers misrepresent, or even outright lie about jobs. I believe you owe employers integrity and a good faith effort. Beyond that nothing more. I've been in my current job 6 years. It's a toxic turd factory spinning around the drain. Mom & pop shop. I no longer give 2 weeks notice. As soon as I find a new job, I'll wrap it up on a Friday, say nothing, and start my new job on Monday. Employers give no notice, why should employees??
Some folk can deliberately mess things up for you when they know you are on probation period & you happen to get on the wrong side of someone like they feel threatened by you as your better at the job than they are or they need a scape goat for a wrong doing that they did, they can really mess that up for a person to be spiteful...
Hey Marc, thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it. Let me say this, I'm sorry, now get over it and get used to it, and move on. This will not be the first. Companies lay-off, downsize and fire people all the time. You must get used to it and move on. Dust your resume off and get back into the game!!! NOW!
Andrew Hudak Me too. Was fired yesterday. The goals and expectations were unclear and what I delivered was not what they expected. I got along with everyone and came on time but that wasn’t enough
What to do when your told at every 1:1 meeting with managers that your doing great and then all of a sudden they say “we need to end you job because of performance issues”.
Oh wow...this is impressive to hear. Please how did you mention that you were "fired' to the interviewer at your new job? Did you leave that job out on your resume? Or didn't mention that you were fired?
You were fired cause you were smart, hardworking and Black.....it is what it is...untill we create our own we have to live in Their shitty system....I have a degree and cant keep a job to save my life..fired today for unknown reasons that even the employers couldnt explain...the job i was fired from is filled with "new comers to america", if you get what im saying...the managers also where the same..
I feel like now I have a curse and can't get hired for because I was fired.Im thinking about making my own business because I feel like I will get fired again for being too smart and not being a sheep
Hello Javier, thanks for your comment. You are NOT cursed and you will get hired again. You just have to continue with your job search and don't give up or quit. Never, ever think about starting your own business when unemployed. Get back into the game and find your next job. If you are scared of getting fired because you are too smart, then you are looking for the wrong type of employer.
Everything you need to take your career to the next level is found on my RU-vid Channel. And if you need more, you can always go check out my website at darnellc.com. Happy hunting!!!
Sir, this is one of the best, if not THE best video I've seen so far. Getting fired is always painful & frustrating, esp. if it happens more than once. You give some serious in-depth advice here, and what I particularly like about it, you don't just say "get over it & move on" (like in many other videos), but you advise to reflect on yourself, your strengths & weaknesses, and look for a career that fits you. Even if it means changing your business field. Thank you Sir, I am sure you inspire & guide many people.
I feel horrible, I think I will get let go for a huge mistake I’ve made. My mental health is so bad right I can’t keep up with this job it’s making me sick. I don’t know what’s going to happen very sad. I want my own business I just can’t be a employee anymore these high Corporate America jobs is just so stressful but I appreciate this video I don’t feel alone you’re so right about the money my salary is good but I don’t like working here 🙏🏾♥️
My problem was getting hired at something I like and something I would be good at. I interviewed for several jobs I knew I would like and I would be good but they hired someone else. I ended up taking the one job where someone would hire me.
Hello Gale, sometimes you got to do what you got to do! Nevertheless, it's still not too late to try to find a career/job you can be good at. Never stop trying and looking.
I am at the beginning of that 2nd 10 years journey. Unfortunately I have not been able to stay at a job for more than 3-6 months the past few years, and been doing mostly contract work in engineering. Lot of job hobbing for more pay, with time in between with no pay. I am doing some soul searching to find out what I am good at, what I like to do and possibly doing my own business. My interview skills is not good, else I am sure I will get more job offers! Thanks for all the great video you done Darnell, they're really helpful and time appropriate for me. Truly appreciate this.
I have been fired 3 times. Once was my manager throwing me under the bus protecting his mistake not my fault at all. Second time I had an outside business and that was against company policy so they found out and fired me not performance related but that was my fault I guess. Third time was basically I think they wanted to lay me off but found some bs reason to blame me for something not my fault just so they didnt have to give me any severance.
Hello Justin, thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know. And I'm sorry to hear about your firing... Get back on the horse...
I have watched several of your videos as well as other coaches on RU-vid and I must say you definitely stand out from the rest. You are far from "average" for SURE! You model what it is like to work with excellence. You are engaging, live by example, stand in your truth and experiences (which other coaches are not doing), you can relate to what we are all feeling because you have been there. You are also able to give us the inside scoop on what really goes on behind the scenes in all of your videos. Thanks for sharing YOUR gift with us! I have learned from your lessons and have actually done better in my approaches to interviewing as well as managing my career. THANK YOU for making a difference!
Good point about have by a strategy for leaving. That was a mistake of mine one time. You are great on camera!! Love hat you mention to love what you do. Too funny when you say your wife is you boss :)
Hey Kevin, being unemployed at a certain age suck, for sure. But don't give up! There are a ton of job out there for people of age. You just have to go find them.
@@kimsingleton7630 Kim, Unfortunately our coach Darnell Clarke is deceased. He died this past July, 2019. There's a short video his wife put up in August (I think). A commenter said that it was due to a virus. That's all I know. You can search for the post mortem "Farewell" video his wife put up.
Kim Singleton Peace & Blessings to us both in our respective endeavors. I say that often myself. I’m 4 1/2 months out of work and I was the sole breadwinner. But YAH will provide! My wife just got her Real Estate license and I may be following suit so that we can ultimately become RE Investors.. Yahuah willing!
I know what you mean about not loving what you do for a living. I started in injection molding in 1987. It was my first job a year out of high school. I was promoted to asst. supervisor after 5 years. I stayed at that company for nine years. I left for another company in the same industry and worked there eight years. I was promoted twice. The problem was I had no passion for the work. I became proficient at it due to years of doing it. When you have very little passion for the work you do it will begin to affect how you perform. After my last stint as a supervisor in the same field, I decided that I needed a change. The company I work for now is a better fit for me. I have a passion for the work but have refused all chances for advancement because I fear it will rob me of what I like doing.
Hello, thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know! It looks like this new job is where you will find your true calling and fit. Good luck...
You are one heck of a speaker. I agree. If you are above average that will fireproof you to a certain extent. I agree. Look at the others in your line of work and see who's the best. And no cop outs either!
Found the channel, doing some heart searching, and I realized I'm slaving and fulfilling someone else's dream. Hopefully soon I get my A+ Certification/Net + if I can stay on track , then I can get out of student loan defsult, eliminate that debt, a pursue my passions.
I worked at a lot of places and just got fired from my job for the first time. I think I might be better off being my own boss. I’m tired of listening to other people. Just don’t know if I have the dedication.
Been there because I broke the Omerta, but it's been the best gift in disguise. I even couldn't care less with fighting my grievance as I have better things to do than to waste energy on pettiness.
Hello sir, I like your training because you are telling the truth. I was laid off on 30/06/2021.....Laid off, dismissal, fired, down size, post abolish...all is REJECTION...
Who is perfect .? We are human after all I messed up trying to morph into a digital robot ... 😢, informed my manager immediately . I owned my bad . They still let me go but I left with grace and dignity I neutralised any power they had over me by taking ownership . A job to me now is simply a vehicle to meet the bills, I'm just merely a resource and as good as my last sale . But it ain't my life , they don't own me . I know there's bigger horizons . Never bitter always better , remember your worth guys ❤
I am going through some crazy times at work. The company completely restructured itself. Prior to our transition I was a top performer in sales. I did so well that when we transitioned they promoted me without a formal interview process. However I have struggled big time since the restructuring of our organization. It has become much harder to hit my goals and we went from a pure sales role to more of a service to sales role. Its gotten so bad that I have been warned that I could eventually be put on a PIP. I started looking around but not sure what to do.
In a similar situation I was doing very well in the beginning so I got converted to full time. But once covid hit I became unhappy and depressed my performance went down and made mistake after mistake and probably going to end up fired or on the pip too😞 I hope things worked out for you🙏🏾
Oh hey! Long story short I got a new manager which was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. I got off the PIP, got a good year end review, and just got a great mid year review!
thank you for that. sound advice man. just fired by GPS reports. I had no plan to be fired but I was riding my way out. now I can Do. thanks for a plan.
Hello, thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know. So sorry that you fired. Get back on the house and go find your next gig.
I got fired twice. I’m a teacher who enjoys most of the job, but not all of it. I’m a band director, so it entails a lot of late nights. I can identify with the average statement, as I’ve only stayed two years max. Not sure what to do to fix it though.
Hello Clark Terry Fan, it's time to find what you love to do... then engage it for the rest of your life! Discover your purpose... To realize one's purpose (your destiny) is a person's only obligation. Pursue it now.
Hello Mr.Darnell, thank for sharing this info, I really like it, and it is the first time I hear something so directly , honest and true. I enjoy your videos and learn a lot. Best regards.
You sound just like me. No blown out knee but a technoloogy management BAS 4 year degree and instead of an MBA I did six sigma black belt, I too keep track. Nice to run in to you
I was recently fired because of jealousy, I was so determined to do a great job and was always early. I asked great questions and made great connections. It was like a blow to my heart 2 days before the 90 day probation ended ( and the holiday party that I cooked for 😢). I am devastated. It's been a month now and I'm just feeling so hopeless. I'm 30 and afraid of not seeing my dreams of travel come to fruition because of this in my history. What do I say to the next employer? Do I leave this off my resume?
Hey Quiana, I'm so sorry to hear about you getting fired. I say... So what! You are still young at 30. My friend, I'm sorry to say, that you will probably get fired/laid-off/downsized again before you retire. Get used to it! That's the game the marketplace is playing right now. Lick your wounds, get up and get back to it! Right now... If they fired you, forget those busters, they couldn't see your greatness if it hit them in the face. Your future is bright, turn your dream machine back on... and go get it!!!!!! --- Yes, add that position to your resume. Tell your next interviewer, that the position wasn't a good fit.
@@DarnellClarke thanks Darnell for your kind words and wisdom. I passed a phone interview today and have the in-office interview on Friday. I plan to wow them with what I CAN and WILL do in the present and not focus on the past. I didn't get this B.A. to sit on my ass feeling sorry for myself. And to think, this new job is right around the corner from the old on. Buh Bai! Lol
After I read this I was like oh wow,If I were you, I would have start to run my own business. While I'm still young. I always know that jobs comes and goes. Running your business is a good thing.
Ive been fired from my last 3 jobs and i have a misdemeanor from 6 yrs ago . I just read my consumer report and it makes me look horrible. I'm getting turned down by every job i apply to.I need some advice i cant get ahead.
Hey Mikal, there is no easy way to say it, but you will have problems getting the interview. I have had many people with the same issue, and it very difficult for them to find interviews. Go watch my job search video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wp1IWfuoJG8.html). You will need to find hiring managers and tell them your story versus submitting your resume where HR or the hiring manager can see that you have a misdemeanor. Good Luck!
I was banker. Well I can beat you I was fired around thirty times by the age of 40 😂 it is so many times I literally lost count 😊 I new when management wanted to fire me they wanted to write me up any moment they could of course I never signed their bs write ups😂. Then coworkers stop talking to me and usually other managers get invited for firing processes😂 Each company was firing me they thought it was a first time for me they were not aware or even care that I went through that process so many times ❤ knowledge is power ❤
Darnell, if I’m honest I have you tied... 5 times... I know my issue: Confidence. Low confidence = easy target QUESTION: Any idea how to get around listing “fired” 5 times on an application...? Hell, just thought of one: don’t list the job if it’s not adding enough benefit!! Thanks man
John, thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know. And you are correct, if it doesn't show you in the best light, don't list it on your resume. And if you do, you must have a positive story to tell about it.
A whole department of us was layed off from a major financial institute. I've posted over 100 resumes and have had about 5 interviews for the exact same job I was doing, but was never hired. I've always gotten excellent reviews, do you think there is something in my records.
Hello M&M, if you are not getting an offer, then something is wrong with your interviewing. Go find my RU-vid video on "Tell Me About Yourself" so you can show them value right from the start by giving them your "Value Added Proposition".
Dear Mr. Clarke, I was fired for misconduct from my job. I had.a hearing and the administrative judge stated that my conduct did not warrant firing or ceasing of benefits. When I was fired, my wonderful manager answered the question "if she would hire me again", she checked no. This organization has stated that they will not state why I was fired they would only state the day I started and when I left. How can I get defend myself if my new employer takes the response of "no, I wouldn't hire her back" seriously, whereas my new employer would pass me by?
Don't tell your new employer about your last employer. Got fired 2-weeks ago and Im not telling my new employer about my last employer because I will get a bad reference
I'm in South Africa I have a diploma in retail business management and currently studying project management with no success. I have been fired in my job because one day I decided that I don't want to work for them and I just did not go to work for a month without notice because I was tired of the faces (2 Faced). Now I want a new employer and I want a senior position but if abroad I don't mind being average
Well, it's not necessary that only average people get fired. I have seen companies where due to restructuring departments are closed or merged with one another affecting good people got laid off. Now how would you describe that? So the Answer Man has a wrong answer this time.
Hello, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it! You are funny... Here's the thing, if you are a big-baller, shot-caller in your company, no matter of the re-org or restructuring, they will still keep you! I promise you!
I was successful, making great progress and promising pipelines, my boss was from Bangladesh, the VP Asian Indian with American passport, both were teaming up against me.... They fired me while I was nominated technical leader of Asia Pacific & Middle East Africa market... This happened in 2018, now in May 2022, I still can't get a job and simply they grounded me, Now, I m feeling loser, lost, broken and become aggressive, any little problem makes me on fire, my marriage is on the way to get destroyed.. feeling oppressed consumes me... I'm tiiiiiired I can't move on 😭😭😭😭
It wasn't you Darnell, you did a good job. So it wasn't you. You were not "just average." Don't believe that nonsense. You may have gotten fired for other reasons, being average wasn't one of them. If you were average, it was bc you misled yourself into thinking you were average.
I am a soon to be empty-nester. Restarting my career in my late 40's. I have a job offer in NYC. How do I start building my career this late in the game.
Hey M&M, first of all, 40 is NOT old!!!!! You are still right in the sweet spot of your career. It's still not too late to discover your purpose, passion, and dreams. Find out what you want to do in your career, then go for it! It will not be easy, but anything worthwhile is ALWAYS hard! Go get it!!!
Hey Darnelle, I just started at a new company. I was hired as a supervisor. I noticed that my manager brought in another person part-time. And, he is spending more time training him than me. I cannot help but to think they brought him in just in case I do not meet their standard. It is just weird how the co. hired 2 blacks and put them up against each other. My counter party seems very disrespectful toward women as is they are beneath him. And, he behaves that way toward me. I am about 6 weeks in the three month trial period. And, I feel very stressed.
I was fired 3 times the last one was what I expected the boss was a cusion and did not like me and I was out of my field of work. it. I was fired several times in a short time and this where I live is seen by recruiters as something bad, I am afraid to look for the job I want and my money to run out.

I just can't seem to be able to do the work. My mind wanders off. I would love to be an artist or a rock star or an actor but there are not many jobs for those kind of people. I've just never been able to be a good worker.
I'd also love to write music professionally (I do it as a hobby) and I would like to write fiction which I do but no professionally. That is not talents employers want.
Gale, before I became a career coach, I was just like you! I was working in IT making a ton of cash, but I hated it! You MUST discover your purpose and make it your life's mission to find it. No matter what! Or you will NEVER be happy!!!
Ayo man, I am working for a company for 2 weeks. Now, they all seem to be friendly and they like me but it’s been 2 weeks and I still didn’t receive my contact!!!!! Did you came across a similar situation?
I was terminated for breaching fit for duty policy, I'm gonna be applying to the competition, however sometimes it's a small community is it wise not to put the old employer on my resume in case someone knows someone there that might disclose my termination.?
Nonsense! Steven Job was fired by Apple. He is not average. I found the below of average never got fired. You are just lucky because you are good at talking. You have no self-awareness and you just have a big month and a popular USA personality .
I like the 5 points. Darnell you are on the right track. So there are many distractors like Gloria, who think they are the smartest. But someone of us can relate to real world experiences that resonates with what you said.
