They smell a hell of a lot better to me than a dirty dog that's desperately in need of a bath. That keeps me from petting other people's dogs. If a dog is dirty and I've put my hands on it, as soon as I come back in the house I wash my hands. Can't stand that smell. Call me crazy, but I love the smell of ferrets!

I clean my ferrets cage 2 times a day with a water vinegar mix and wash there litter boxes out with warm water. this deodorizes and keeps our apartment neutral smelling with 4 ferrets. our ferrets are deglaned and fixed for bolth sexes and had them at the age of 2 months. we have to be careful with incense dew to one of our ferrets being allergic to many things. so please make sure your ferrets are ok with the smell too. we also bath them 2 times a month XD

This has been super helpful. Definetly cleaning the cage everyday and washing the bedding cuts it down a lot.

We live the smell of our ferrets they smell sweet heady like incense especially when they are happy. The traditional stink goes after neutering but they can drop extra scent from their tail glands when excited scared or defensive or if you are holding them when they need the toilet. If they sit or lie on the same spot they leave a musty smell

I use my ferret shampoo to clean my girls blankets, than I rinse the blankets again before they go back into the sleeping box, better than just using plan water, the ferrets won't have an allergic reaction, oh & it's best to give your washing machine a rinse to clean out all the left over washing detergents, or just do a hand wash in some buckets for your ferrets, it's what I do and my ferret always smells nice has soft fur and has never ever had an allergic reaction :)

I read that another method to completely remove the smell is to leave them alone in the wild.

I actually use Frebreze around my fur kids and it works quite well and they love the smell too and I only need to change the litter box once a week..... I did find this organic detergent at the .99 cent store that works great for them plus if they do get a little smelly I just fill up the tub or kiddie pool and let them go swimming which Lenore goes crazy for while Paulie lays back on his little floating lounge.......

Yes. Ferrets have scent glands like skunks do. When skunks release theirs they tend to spray. Ferrets do the same without the spraying of course so yes it's like farting.

I have 3 ferrets and one is slowly going getting on to a raw diet(currently on marshalls diet) and she by far smells the worse. Not that I can't stand it but a proper diet can impact odor dramatically. Another thing she mentioned was air purifier. I have two models both by Rex Air. NOW I AM NOT WORKING FOR THEM OR PUSHING A SALE FOR THEM. But these by far have eliminated the smell of my ferrets. They both use water to clean the air. Now the Rainbow Vacuum tackles the living room and kitchen area with ease. but the smaller rainmate which i am suggestion is perfect for a single room. Oils can be added to produce nice smells. They are alot cheaper second hand than buying from a dealer..also try amazon for the rainmate! got one for about 70$ american dollers!

Something unscented, usually detergents formulated for washing baby clothing works well

My 4 ferrets sleep under my bed which is carpeted. I have to shampoo the carpet every few mths to get their oil out of it. They have the run of my bed room.

Once neutered there's hardly any smell on the animals they smell sweet like incense but the oil in their fur goes musty so their bedding smells and If you wear the same clothes ti handle them they get musty too. If they scent when you handle them it's because they need the toilet. Put them down and they go straight for pooh corner

Putting a fresh branch of Rosemarry in their cage is very good at covering their smell & our ferrets like playing with the branches so the smell rubs off on them.

Just got a ferret from someone who did not take care of her. She poops everywhere in her cage as well as the litter box and she smells so bad even after a bath. It burns my nose. And she is super skinny. Help anyone any advice. I clean her cage out daily but she just poops on all the levels and knocks her food and water down to the litterbox

Hi. I was wondering if the Marshall odor control to add to their water is safe. I've heard people say that it helps reduce the smell alot. You add the liquid to their water and it apparently reduces the smell of their pee and poo. I just want an honest opinion because I feel like you can't allways trust the reviews. If you can help. have u used eucalyptus wool wash on their skin to wash them as earth choice brand is grey water safe! I used to wash my dog with this and need no conditioner and no fleas from weekly wash - do ferrets get fleas???????

Whats the difference between a normal and deep clean?

I hate the smell. And I just hate cleaning Willy's cage - he poops way too much..and I spray a lot of air freshener because I am allergic to all kinds of incense and smoke. My throat tends to swell up. I didn't know it could damage their respiratory system though so I'll have to try to air purifier I guess.

To be honest I have a good sense of smell but after a while of having my ferrets I got used to the smell and they didn't really smell to me any more but everyone else complained about the smell! A ferret would say "Don't judge me by my smell!"

I'm planning on getting a ferret and I was wondering if it is safe to use candles in the same room as them? I also enjoy woodburning in my room once every 3-4 months because it makes my whole room smell like... burnt wood or like the outdoors. I do it by my window and there is little to no smoke what so ever (even if I don't do it by the window it doesn't produce that much smoke) its basically me putting a hot metal pen on wood for those who don't know what it is. I was also wondering if that would be safe?

I love ferret musk, it has a quality that makes me feel good when I smell it. All Marshall ferrets are automatically descanted, but they do it so fast that they often damage nerves, causing the anus to prolapse. Very frustrating to deal with :/

You should get her spayed as soon as possible- any time now she could go into heat and you need to have the operation done before that happens.
