What I feed my ferrets 

It seems that this comment section has some of the most stupid people I have ever seen, ferrets are carnivores, they eat meat, the fact that she's feeding her ferrets mice/rats is amazing for their health because that's what they eat in the wild and if you think feeding frozen thawed rats is cruel you should see how ferrets take down and kill rabbits 3 times their size, but it's Nature and if you want to have a healthy happy ferret then meat is the way to go.

It's totally normal to feed a Carnivorous animal, meat. You're the odd one for thinking it's abnormal. That's nature, peeps.

True! I live in UK and I plan to get ferrets next year, so now I go through all information and supplies. On amazon I found other day really high protein and fat ferret food. ^^

My ferret Annie will not eat a raw diet, have tried her with mice (she eats the tail and leaves the rest), chicks she will not touch at all. Have even tried blending her raw diet into a soup, but she just won't eat it. She prefers a dry food kibble diet (3 different types mixed). She seams very lively and healthy and has lots of energy. I wonder do any other ferret owners experience this?

I did a lot of research on the type of kibble that was best for them & from what I’ve read Wysong Epigen 90 digestive formula. I have to order it online because no one in our area carries it but since I put our 1 year old adopted girls on it they have really fattened up & their coats are very thick & soft now. Plus they really like it. Their previous owner had them on Marshall’s diet which isn’t that great.

I tried to feed my 3 ferrets frozen and they wouldn't even look at it and it was their first time eating raw. But as soon as I put in live mice they immediately started hunting and killed the mice on their own and ate them whole

I live in the Twin Cities out here in Minnesota and here it is not illegal to feed an animal live food. I love seeing my ferret eat live prey, this makes him super happy and excited!

I have feed my ferrets raw chicken gizzards and hearts as well as kibble for 20 years. In US gizzards are easily available and fairly inexpensive (Wal-Mart). Currently I'm using Blue Buffalo Wilderness Cat and Kitten food with some Wysong Ferret Epigen 90 mixed in.

also something to point out about feeding mice is that in many cases the prey can fight back and hurt your ferret. this happened to a friend of mine's and it was very sad :(

i feed my ferrets one ingredient cat and kitten food with the raw boosts pieces and they love it and its also healthy for them...i never fed mine raw meat...i might try it because my little runt is skinnier than my other one. she just doesn't eat as much as the other one. so maybe the meat could fatten her up a little bit!

yes you can. theyre weaned at 4-6 weeks. 6 preferably, so yours will be fine. in fact starting at a younger age is better!

They digestion has improved greatly and most foods I've seen contain vegetables anyway. Even the ferret exclusive foods. Comes as hard food just like any other pet food. I rather they have that food then others that have color dyes and corn which ferrets are said not be able to digest at all. Besides their poo looks soooo much better since I've changed their food and their coats are really shiny :) Oh yea they went straight for the yolk.

I've never fed my 3 ferrets dead animals EVER. I respect your decision in that choice, but I brush my baby's teeth instead. I give them bones to chew on, instead of feeding them rats, or mice and etc. I give them Salmon, and they seem to love it. The Vet said they are really healthy. Just got my 2 Fuzzies yesterday. I have been watching your videos for a few months. My hubby and I spent a couple hours in the pet store reading bags of Ferret Food. None of them were without something that shouldn't be in there, and always in the first 5 ingredients! So we went with the same brand that they were used to while we work on introducing them to raw foods.

We just got my ferret and she is very picky about her food, mostly because she was never given many different types when she was young. We tried to give her a ferret treat and she wouldn’t eat it for a day, and then she investigated it for about 5-10 mins before squirreling it away to try it.

Imagine walking up to your friend who has a ferret and he/shes like, hey what do you feed your ferret and you're like, I just feed them barf.

I want to start my little guy on mice 😍 (here it's no biggy feeding live, pet shops actually sell 'feeder mice' for snakes) I'm thinking of possibly breeding them to save $$

in Sweden we keep our ferrets roaming free like any indoor cat, this american "rodent style" of keeping ferrets (common outside Europe) sucks in every way. In addition I walk my ferrets in a nearby park/forest at least 1h/day. Also our pet stores keep several brands of actual ferret food, and this is even though tame ferrets are very rare here (we got the wild ones in the forest as well)

You will be very SURPRISED as how powerful a ferrets jaw is - they can easily mulch bones!

My ferret refuses to eat anything but kibble, mostly due to coming from a very bad farm (she's a rescue) so me and our vet just chose some vitamin and protein additives to mix with her regular ferret kibble. I tried feeding her raw foods, including dead mice and even once a live mouse. She did eat some of it after she killed it, but most of it went to waste and she got a bit sick :( So we had to work around it.

I work my ferrets so daily they get a bowl of ferret food which is dry and at the weekends when they have worked rabbit warrens they get a whole gutted rabbit and sometimes a whole pheasant they love it! Mine don't seem to be keen on defrosted mice but they love rabbits! I have found hanging the rabbit in their hutch stops them from dragging it into their beds as well and gives them more of a challenge

i live in the uk and am pleased i can buy ferret biscuits with all the nutrition's ,i do not feed my ferrets raw, they have chicken breast and i microwave for 3 mins and feeds 3 ferrets, i do not like giving them raw meat and they certainly wont eat it raw, they have chicken livers also boiled, ,they will not touch beef raw or cooked, but im happy with my fuzzys and think they are happy with me too

You can also take a can of chicken breast and one raw egg, mix it together, cook it for 5 minutes(in microwave) then feed to your ferret, they will love it

honestly it doesnt matter that thr prey doesnt get a chance to fight. because that company you bought those from didnt give them a chance either before they mass murdered hundreds of babies and froze them for sales.

My ferret killed a mouse before. Our next door neighbor was always dirty and they started to have mice and the mice would come over and go into our basement. We saw one on top of the ferret's cage and we put our ferret on top and she bit it and it died.

One really great place to look is at any local butchers for things like this BARF you're talking about. I'm in US so I haven't seen that brand but raw is raw.... Recently though I have found our local butcher sells raw dog food!!!! It's amazing. I buy it from a secondary store about 12 minutes from my house. The woman who owns the store has a brother who raises beef cattle and goats and lamb. Well the butcher will pre mix crushed bone, organs, and meat all together. It's sold as "dog food" but it's straight meat and has all the organs that a ferret would need. I'll let it thaw then mix it with some other stuff like eggs or the duksoup mix. Something I recently found and thought it was brilliant. Cheersk AG.

eukanuba is only an average kitten food. its far from a high quality kitten food. and feathers and bones and feet are actually fine for ferrets to eat. You really just want to feed them raw and no kibble anyways. kibble isn't even good for CATS let alone ferrets. its bad for ferrets because of the carbohydrates and sugars. its bad for cats because of the carbohydrates and low moisture content.

Do you still feed a low-grade kibble to your ferrets? I LOVE your videos, but Eukanuba is pretty poor quality. In this video you say that you found that Eukanuba was the best, why? You seem to have based it on the type of protein instead of the amount. The thing is, that if you find that the first few ingredients are pure meat, but the protein is low, that means that even though the kibble has more of that thing than any other individual ingredient, the meat is still being overwhelmed with other ingredients, which is bad for fuzzbums.

I'm about to get a white ferret named Meeka && I have watched ALOT of ur videos learned a lot! I have been so much research its unreal I'm very ready && I'm so in love with this ferret I can't wait! thank you so much for helping! I'm going to continue watching ur videos!!

You are absolutely right about feeding mice/rats and that it is good for their teeth! In Holland we have also have special food for ferret's this are sausage's with raw meat in them. And a big no no are fruit, raisins and everything that a carnivore should not eat. You could even let the Eukabana cat food away because it sticks at te theeth like glue because of the starch. But if you feed it anyway then the kitten version is always the best.

Do you have any suggestions for alternatives for the dead animals? My family and I own rats and have owned mice and it would be pretty disturbing to me to feed my ferret one of those lol so suggestions for alternatives would be greatly appreciated :)

I leave rats/mice for my snake in the window sill for at least half a warm day to thaw. Usually all day. But no longer as decomposition is not good! You can feel with your hands when the rodent is no longer cold

I feed my ferret a combination of high quality brands of kibble .ZuPreem, Wysong Archetypal-2,EVO and Totally Ferret diets. Since fining u on fb and watching your videos I've also added Wysong Archetypal-1 witch is kind of like meat but dehydrated and a egg yoke. I tried adding raw chicken necks but they won't touch it. I must say that since adding Wysong Archetpal-1 ,they have gained weight and their coats look better also.I have to mail order EVO& Wysong foods. Enjoying your videos!

Everyone shut up she can feed her ferrets mice if she wants to it's the same thine as giving your dogs chicken or your cat fish and it's the same as you eating meat and they get rid of those nasty mice that are ugly asf

I havent seen any - but if you go to your local farmers market, you can find similar things.

Ps... The odd frozen rodent to. They eat it in the bath tub so any mess can be washed away... And the rare treat of raw bacon unsmoked, raw egg yolk, and raw minced beef... Not the lean stuff and raw chicken, is also part of their diet x

here is a really good ferret treat its cucumber the every ferret we had loved cucumber but only give it to them occasionally because veg is not a main part of their diet

Not sure what your options are for ferrets, or what you're even feeding now, but I highly suggest changing your kibble. Eukanuba is pretty low grade and not even recommended for ferrets. I personally feed a blend of Orijen and Nature's Variety and feed raw meals at night. I'm working on slowing switching to an all raw diet, but my ferrets are picky enough to not eat enough meat so they still get kibble and freeze dried raw.

My vet recommended Evo Ferret Food - very high in animal protein and non grain. I've been feeding them that for several years but last time I went to pick up a bag at the local pet store they said they couldn't get it. After looking at all the ingredients and percentages I bought a bag of 8-in-1 Ultimate Crunchy Ferret Food to get me by until I can find something better. It only has 45% protein but again, it is only until I find one with a higher animal protein level. I've emailed the makers of Evo but haven't received a response yet. I live in the USA.

Core Wellness helps keep their teeth clean too. Ferret vita and ferret chewys. Never use Marshall brand food or treats. It causes crystallization of their urine down the road. Paper pellet litter is best with their respiratory system.

I do not know if you mean the Black Self or Black Sable ferret but both are specials and are again more likely to get sick. If you want a dark one then it is better to choose the wildcolour ferret in the clip above( the dark one with the mask). That is a ferret as it should be! But it is off course your choice. although I think it is better to have a healthy ferret. And according to me are all ferrets special as a being :-)

Sorry then I misunderstood you! I think that the wildcolour or the albino ferrets are the best choice concerning the choice of colour. This is because these are natural colours and they are not created by breeders. DEW dark eyed white ferrets are prone to healt problems. Actually all specials are more likely to get sick, like for example the polka dot ferret. This is because breeders createted these colours and are not natural. So I would stick to the wildcour or the albino, greetings Esther

my niece recently got a ferret and her's never ate rats/chicks or any other animal, it wasn't brought up that way, the original owner said as long as they have a high protein diet there shouldn't be any worries

I don't feed my ferrets dead rodents. I use roasted rabbit, digestive enzymes & ferret vitamins put it all in a blender & Totally ferret for crunchies. They also need electrolytes in their water. And They are NEVER in a cage. I was raised on a mink ranch,so I learned a lot. But minks needed bone meal & boiled eggs & fish in their diet's. Some ferrets like fish, some don't.

Never new I could feed my ferrets whole rats. I have had three ferrets n my life. Jakie was first he died of cancer, rocky was next died of cancer at 6 years of age and bandit was almost 8 years old and died one day. :( I miss than do so much THANKS for all the information!!!:)

I could never imagine feeding rats to another animal voluntarily. I have pet rats and they mean the world to me, i want to get a ferret later down the road but if it means feeding other animals to them then i couldn't bare that. Rats are wonderful loving pets, I couldn't do it.

I have tried to feed my ferrets raw food, they would rather die than eat raw food. So I still feed kibble with different meats from the supermarket for treats, they won’t eat BARF, organs, or meat with bones.

Have kept ferrets for 15 years and there all rescues and I have struggled they don’t want hearts, any organs. They will eat cooked flesh and the head off a chicken but I tried every mother and there stuck on kibble. I had them not eat for 3 days after trying to get them on raw food. They don’t want any of the mice or chicks. I do kibble, Turkey necks, day old chicks, cooked chicken, eggs, ferret oil and taurine paste. As there all rescue this is why they were on and they don’t want to swap there food. I wish I could do the raw food diet but after 3 days them not eating it scared me. My ferrets have lived 5 to 9 years mostly 6 to 9 and they have an amazing life. If any one could help me that be great.
