Looks easy! Lol I’m no gear expert, but that is definitely the easy part in my opinion from everything I’ve seen in videos of gears. Putting it in the actual axle is the hard part. Look forward to the next video!

Thanks for the support! It’s definitely the easiest part. The pinion is a little tedious. But still not hard per say. I’m going to film the pattern and install tomorrow. That will come out next week

Wish you talked about how the stock carrier is good for 4.10 and lower numerical gear ratio. And you will need a different carrier for 4.56 gears and numerical higher gear ratio. Had to learn the hard way…..

You don’t actually. If you have the 4.10 and down carrier and want a higher gear ratio you just need thick cut gears. They make them exactly for that purpose. When you order parts definitely have to know what you have and order the right stuff. Sorry you had to deal with that.

@@WarPaintOffroad yah. But it turns out I did have everything correct. I guess it was just hitting the pinion support a little. So I had to trim it down a bit and then the gears slip right in.

Great video Dan! Assuming you could choose a selectable locker, what would you choose? I can't find one to fit a 10.5" to save my bacon!

I have used Arb and the Yukon grizzly. I like Yukon better. They both work well…but the Yukon actuator ring installs much better and they aren’t made in Australia….so getting parts for them is easier.

How about installing the ARB air locker. Does the locker replace the carrier? I am asking because I would like to build a 14 bolt with air locker.. and I see junkyard axles come with either open or limited slip/positrack differentials.. so it does not matter either one because the air locker replaces the carrier? Thanks!! Great channel! It should have way more subscribers!

So you have a couple options with a rear 14 bolt. Unfortunately Yukon is my go to and they don’t have an air locker for that axle. So I would either go ARB (which does replace the carrier) or do a Yukon Grizzly. The Yukon grizzly is a GREAT choice for a string locker that doesn’t have the complication of running air. That is in addition to the factory carrier. But it will not work with a factory limited slip. However, you can’t do a Grizzly on another of the newer Jeeps with traction control and wheel speed sensors.

Just curious....but aren't you suppose to put the race back over the bearing before using the bearing puller? That way it doesn't damage the bearing.

When removing the bearing it doesn’t matter…but when putting it back on…the bearing is only being pushed by the inner race. So there isn’t any pressure on the cage or bearings. So depending on the press and the puller being used…yes….but not necessary with this tool. It is designed to be used the way I used it and it doesn’t damage anything because of only pushing on the inner race.

elite gear master install kits, revolution gear master install kits include koyo or timken bearings and ring gear bolts for 14 bolt

Wow that’s pretty cool. I didn’t realize. I have done a lot of them over the years and never came across a kit that actually had the bolts. Not for a 14 bolt anyway.

Also g2 14 bolt master install comes with ring gear bolts, timkins/koyos and is cheaper than most kits

Interesting. I think they are the only company that does that. But koyo’s are also cheaper bearings.

@@TheChicagOP yea. I’m aware. I have seen and read a bunch about them. But I’m a Timken guy. Used them for a long time and they work. Never a failure. Things change. But until I have proof of one being a new king of the hill…I’ll be using Timken for sure.

Dan, came across your video while researching an issue with my 14b rebuild. I did all the steps you outlined BUT the backlash is strange. I have 007-010 all the way around EXCEPT for about 5 or 6 teeth showing 005 and one tooth at 0045. CAN NOT for the life of me figure this out. I did an initial deburr on ring gear. Pretty sure Bearings are pressed on right. Have you seen this situ before? Using Yukon gears on a Eaton TrueTrac carrier with APR ring gear bolts.

pro tip rent the bearing drivers from an auto part store and just cut the carrier bearings off with an angle grinder and a chisell. boom you just saved $400 but really only worth it if you're only regearing once

Yea. You could. But not sure I’d call that the “pro tiip” 😂 but it would work. Although you can use the tool for more than just pull off bearings later in the regear.
