This video was a success. You showed that you can take and already processed plant that's been out of the dirt for a week and it can still grow. And you gave us a heads up on the critters. Good job.

I’ve done this over the past few weeks with: Cilantro aka Coriander leaves, Basil, mint, celery, scallions aka green onions, chives and thyme. They’re all growing very well. All from the grocery store. I’m happily surprised and already using them for cooking. They grew so fast! Next up is rosemary, parsley, tomatoes and strawberries though I’ll probably get the latter 2 from a nursery.

I have totally done this and yours was a total success.. despite the possums.. I also figured out that they grow best in soil even though they will grow in water they never ever taste the same.. You've obviously done this many times but it's still excellent info us noobs..

What a relief it is to listen to ur video. It seems 95% of them are filled with dialog that consist of a continuous string of "Uummms", "Aahh's", "you know's" and when they stumble on to a string of words that have any meaning, they'll repeat them over and over. Like three year old's trying to get out what they want to say. I never complain in comments because they're working with no script and they put in the effort to make the vid', where I didn't. On ur video, you communicate wonderfully SS

u had tried and it does grow, just don't let be eaten or pulled to continue growing, you succeeded... and i am doing the same with celery, parsley, cilantro, and spinach in small pots. it is happiness to see them rooting while in water then plant it in soil, or even self-watering container. I had learned so much from you tuber postings...thanks all.

Greg if you love coriander, try this method: coarsely crush dry coriander seed and plant them in a vertical shallow trench of compost, keep feeding with water (put in the underneath tray) and place it on the window still. I live in the UK and its working for fantastically....Good luck

I do this all the time with herbs and use hanging pots, first I set them overnight in some "Miracle-Gro" and water. Next day or so, I pop them into a hanging pot with some more Miracle-Gro and a really good potting mix. They look pretty bad for a week or so and then suddenly I have a new pot of herbs! Glad to see other people doing this. It is a good tip, I save money this way.

This was fun to watch and a a bit humorous! I laughed a few times! Round here, we don't have to deal with opossums ( I don't think they even live round here! I've never seen one anyway!) But we do have to deal with rabbits and deer eating our plants! can't even plant trees cuz they eat them til they are level to the ground! But, of course, they don't eat the trees you DON'T want to grow, they only eat the ones you DO want to grow!

Superb! Thank you for sharing, Here in the UK I tell friends that most 'herbs' will root by placing the smallest of cuttings in a glass of water and patiently waiting for the roots to appear...they do, always. Thirst for life hey! Excellent clip & Please keep up the good work Greg.

glad that someone has tried this too. i have sort of succeeded once. i cut it really close to the root and used only the thick ones. the sprout came out from the middle of the stalk with the outer stems dying. unfortunately, it died out because it went too dry. how did you manage to get it not to rot at all? whenever i try to plant my cuttings in soil or water, and especially if they are so close to each other, they just end up as a slimy mess.

I’m going to say it was a success! Even if they were mostly eaten by the critters, you still grew them. I’m trying to grow some cilantro over here in my garden, and I’m hoping they keep growing well. I want to cook with the roots, which are an ingredient in a lot of Thai dishes that you don’t see very often in America. Your video made me smile, so thank you for sharing!

That "potting soil" looks like uncomposted bark. lol Anyway, I have never seen cilantro sold here with roots, but it grows well from seed. I have done what you did with green onions, which usually come with roots. :oD
@MaureenKo1
@MaureenKo1 10 лет назад
Nice experiment! You can do this with green onions as well. I think your dirt is too rocky. Use soft potting soil. It works well. If you plant corriander seeds, you can harvest several times by cutting with a scissors and leaving the roots in the ground.

Well since cilantro/coriander is an herb that is both biennial and loves hot weather...I'd just grow it from seed in a pot. I would think that it would bolt fairly quickly if you grew one from the store that had been shocked by being taken from the ground. Nonetheless, you'd probably have a little better luck with a small bit of rooting hormone to promote root growth. Maybe?
