Apple Configurator gives you 2 options
Restore - You can erase & reinstall macOS on your mac in under 10 minutes
Revive - This will retain user data and reinstall macOS recovery if you are having problems booting into macOS recovery.
This mode will also help you if your Mac will not boot or if it is booting to an exclamation point.
I will go over how to restore macOS on your new Apple Silicon Mac. Your first line of defense for installing macOS on Apple Silicon should be macOS Recovery. But if for some reason you are having problems with that you can boot your Apple Silicon Mac with a Big Sur USB installer drive.

@@Mr.Macintoshi have same problem with my mac studio, flashing sos amber light. i try set in dfu mode, but it cant show dfu mode at apple configurator.😢 use usb c from iphone, and another usb c also. did i make wrong step?

Thank you for the easy to follow guide!!! Only issue I ran into was my brand new Mac Studio M1 Ultra that arrived today (March 2023) wouldn't install the version downloaded from App Store and would only accept 12.6.3 that was downloaded from your site. Hard to believe the Apple Mac store would have an older version, but once I recreated the bootable USB using the 12.6.3 version on your site it worked!

Thank you, this saved my Mac Studio. I spent 48 hours following misleading information ( including apples support note) to get DFU working. I wiped the drive which was fine I has a backup. Backup working to pay the bills. THANK YOU!

Great Video.. however I cannot get past something. I have a 2022 Mac Mini M1 with Catalina. I want to erase that completely and install my older version of Mojave. I've created a bootable external and went through the steps of erasing the internal HD -- However I just cannot get it to allow me to install using the External - it doesn't even show up. Am I missing something?

sir tahnks, you are a legend , small quick question , I just got a used mac studio 2022 m1 max , on that previous owner removed the data , the recovery still gives me the option to install Monterey(assuming they never upgraded) , but now we are on Sonoma 14.4.1 , can I download the latest ipsw firmware of sonoma and use that in the DFU mode or do I still need to install the Old Monterey IPSW ? Thanks :)

Just tried this dfu/ipsw method with another Mac and it didn’t work with a developer downloaded ipsw for Ventura but it did successfully worked automatically downloading the latest Monterrey from Apple.

Using the USB method once I make it to the 22:33 part of the video, the 4 options I get are 1. Time Machine 2. Reinstall Ventura 3. Safari 4. Disk Utility Instead of the bootable drive being in spot 2. Is there any reason as to why it should be suggesting I reinstall Ventura rather than showing the bootable drive?

I installed Monterrey on my 2013 iMac using your video for OCLP and it’s working great. Now my iPhones won’t connect to my Mac. They connect/disconnect really fast (beep beep beep) I’ve tried the commands in Terminal: sudo killall usbd and sudo killall -STOP -c usbd and sudo killall -CONT usbd …. I’ve ruled out faulty cables and the USB ports all work fine for other devices

the reason is because mac os isn’t supported on ur imac and that’s why ur having those issues… it’s not his fault it’s yours

You have to create a bootable USB and use the most recent version 12.6.3 downloaded from his site, not App store. My brand new Mac Studio M1 Ultra that arrived today (March 2023) wouldn't install the version downloaded from App Store and would only accept 12.6.3 that was downloaded from Mr. Macintosh. Just follow step by step everything needed is linked in the description.

Question: For a clean install of macOS, why do you not choose the lowest level “APPLE SSD… MEDIA” disk instead of the volume group “Macintosh HD” (volumes)?

What happens if you format the deepest level disk device on the M1 series via Disk Utility? Wouldn’t formatting the entire disk SSD media (not the “Macintosh HD” volumes) be the preferred option to ensure that all volumes and partitions are reset for a clean nacOS installation?

This is a very good question Andrew. Unlike Intel macs, the top level drive i.e APPLE SSD can not be erased on M1. This protects the critical recovery volume. On Intel macs, you can erase the top level and if you reboot you will be unable to enter recovery because it’s gone. As long as you remove the volume group (Macintosh hd & Data) you have a fresh install 👍

That DFU mode pisses me off that you have to simultaneously hold a button and plug a cable in. What if you have a disability and your hands don't work that great? You're totally screwed. Thanks for the video, and screw you APPLE

i found that i can use a USB-A to USB-C 3.1 Adapter so my USB3 Port turns into a USB Type C port at the same speeds as usb3 5gbs Port on my MacbookPro2012
