About Me:
I’m Emma McAdam. I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I have worked in various settings of change and growth since 2004. My experience includes juvenile corrections, adventure therapy programs, wilderness therapy programs, an eating disorder treatment center, a residential treatment center, and I currently work in an outpatient therapy clinic.
In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

I was watched the funeral for someone and the choir was singing a beautiful song. It made me cry but also after I felt so relaxed and calm and fearless. I actually felt so powerful within myself after this. An energy just came over me.

I feel good also after crying, like a pressure valve has been released. After using mushrooms I have a fantastic cry towards the end of the experience, it feels fantastic

@@Naomirose86 ashwagandha is the spelling I think. From amazon I purchased gaia herbs which is respectable company and safe. Many others are from china. This is better than any prescription med. You start to notice after a few days and the effect continues to build. I won be without it now.

I went for a massage weeks after a miscarriage, after the massage I was so emotional, I could not stop myself from crying. The massage therapist was so very calm ans sweet and told me I might have released sadness... in hindsight she was 100% right.

I also had that experience after a massage. It was the strangest feeling. As soon as they pressed a certain area in my lower back, it was like a dam bursting. Such a rush of emotions seemed to burst out. There are so many physical/emotional links between mind and body that we don't understand yet.

@@kaysmith4594 I experienced that too. In a shopping mall massage pop-up place....how embarrassing!! But he hit a spot and the flood gates just opened and I couldn't stop. It worries me what we keep trapped inside... :(

Today I was writing in my journal because I was feeling depressed and didn’t get much sleep. I suddenly broke down and had a crying fit to the point where I was hyperventilating and I thought I was losing my mind. I’ve been grieving my dads death and my moms dementia diagnosis. After I let it all out, a wave of calm came over me and I noticed my neck and shoulder pain instantly disappeared. I felt so good afterwards.

Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.

The Trips I've been having have really helped me a lot,I finally feel in control of my emotions and my future and things that used to be mundane to me now seem incredible and full of nuance on top of that I'm way less driven by my ego and I have alot more empathy as well

I just realized that my body thinks that my work is a threat. Every day i wake up and go to work i start to get uncomfortable, really anxious, feels like im gonna vomit and feel like i have an headache. I will try this before work, during breaks and after work.

I've had similar responses when working in food and retail. After a few truly awful experiences, it's like a work-related PTSD; makes me want to hide from people.

i totally relate to this!! i had this reaction with my first job and it continued the 4 years i had that job. my body remembered the smells and sounds and total environment of that place, so even the slightest trigger or reminder of it would flood me with anxiety. even when i go back to that store now i get the same feeling. i think it’s best to embrace the feeling instead of trying to fight it, and maybe if you have a trusted coworker, confide in them. i find that when i can be honest about how i’m feeling and validate the anxiety, some of it goes away. and of course, releasing your body tension somehow as recommended in this video.

I’ve been a functioning, high anxiety person all my life. It hasn’t served me well. I’m now in my 50’s and I’ve realized I need help. But I got no help. It’s videos like this that are helping me understand why I feel the way I do and what to do about it. It’s not just one video, like a magic pill. But each video gets me just a little bit closer to where I need to be. For that, I’m truly grateful.

@@marinageorgiewa3045 because, in Canada, you need a referral from a doctor. That takes weeks. Plus, the demand is high but the supply of available therapists is low. So that takes weeks. By then, you’ve learned how to just deal with it best you can.

I've found that being forced to describe my anxiety attacks when they're not happening helps the next time it happens. Doesn't always make things easier, but it does help me advocate for myself during intense anxiety.

Exercising almost every day, especially heavy weight training, gave me something to focus on while processing my trauma during a major depressive episode. It arguably saved my life, worked more than meds ever would have. Everyone should have some physical outlet that they love

@@R3n33loves I was too, it helps to go during hours when few people are there and start slow. Walk on a treadmill for a bit or something simple to gain confidence in your space, then try other things :)

Yoga works for me. Holding a posture, the self discipline. And Tai Chi: the slow controlled motion. Emotional Tension can get stuck in the body, causing pain.?

When I saw the title I wondered if she was going there. I experienced exactly what that bear was doing for half and hour immediately after a chiropractic adjustment two years ago. I had just separated from my wife after thirty years of marriage, and attributed this event to my life-long habit of being an "emotional stuffer". My voice also dropped an octave just before the shaking started, and never returned to its "old" normal pitch. This is the first time I've seen this phenomenon mentioned, and she is the first therapist that I feel could help me. It's difficult to describe how it feels to say that. It may be "safe", but feels very alien to me.

Thanks for this advice. I’m an artist who can’t create anymore because of fear of not creating something wonderful so it is easier not to do anything. I guess that’s when anxiety sets in and it’s a vicious cycle. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I know this is an older video but I wanted to share: I am a mom of 7 with a history of past traumas. I’ve suffered for years with post partum depression but I have been too ashamed to admit. I also thought it was my own fault and a decision I was making. I am currently post partum and the depression has been so intense this time that I’ve finally been open to admitting it. My grandmother suffered terribly and was in and out of asylums in the 50’s. She finally took her life when I was six. I think because of her story I am motivated to fight for a better life. I judged her once but now my heart breaks for her as I suffer from the same thing. I’m looking for ways to manage this naturally as I’m breastfeeding and want the best for my baby. One of the things I’ve been doing is light exposure. I make my family breakfast then bundle myself and baby and step outside to get the first rays of sunlight. We live on a farm and this morning my father in law had the radio on in the barn and I could hear it while I walked around. “That old time rock n roll” came on and I realized deep down I was telling myself to stand still. Then I remembered this video and I let myself start dancing a bit with my baby. We rocked and swayed my hips, smiled at my baby and just really got into it. I can be very goofy in general so I did not feel entirely stupid. Plus we live in the middle of nowhere so I knew no one was watching:) as I danced the urge to cry came over me and I did not hold back like I usually do. I’ve lost my dad to cancer, my grandmother to suicide, I’ve lost six babies to miscarriage and I had those hurts held up inside. I just released them. It felt very good and I will keep doing this. For anyone reading, and thank you for taking the time if you do, please know that getting help for mental health is not selfish. It is the best thing you can do for you and society. Strengthening your body, mind and soul makes you better able to serve those around you. So take the time to try this. Admit where you are and find ways to heal. It’s the best investment you could ever make. As for Therapy in a Nutshell, I am a subscriber and I watch at least one video a day. These are perfect for a busy mom of seven who needs to get her mental health sorted and lacks a whole lot of free time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

@@T.d0T. It's not about controlling but staying aware of the quality of our thoughts...it's about choosing to spend my attention intentionally. I've found intentionally introducing constructive thoughts and focusing on them helps more than trying to repress negative ones.

This makes a lot of sense. After the third meltdown in the middle of downward dog, I realised that I had an eating disorder and I needed to do something about it. I would routinely disassociate from life so I never felt like anything I did was real. Yoga brought my mind into my body and my mind was like “wth is this dumpster fire??!!!”

That’s when it’s the most important to do so. What you do is you say: I’ll only do it for 5 or 10 minutes. That’s it. And then you stay as long as you want after those 5 or 10 minutes. You’ll feel better immediately because you’ll have had a success and you’ll have released endorphins. Also, give yourself the 3 second rule: I have three seconds to get up an do this 5-10 minute exercise. 1-2-up! If you wait longer than that then you won’t do it. You lose. So, set a small success + 3 second rule and you’ll be better than ever ;-)

@@tomasjosefpiano8902 I feel the same, and I’ve finally managed to exercise while at a low. You acknowledge and bring the sad feelings along. I’ve had to set an alarm for say 5 minutes and change into gym top, another 5 for bottoms, and then while watching RU-vid I just tell myself I’ll do a warm up and just move a bit, then finally start a dance workout (fitness Marshall usually) and can stop when I want and can put in as much or as little energy as I feel. It’s hard when you’re low and it requires pushing yourself, but the key is kindness, absolutely no shaming or guilting or judging yourself, just slowly get yourself to do this caring thing, talking like you would to a sick child to get him to take medicine. Don’t forget to congratulate yourself for showing up for yourself, and that a little goes a long way.

Yeah I don't have it all figured out myself, but the important thing is to show up. You don't have to create any lofty goals, just show up.. and once you stand there in all your gear it would be stupid not to start ;) Resistance only shows up before you get going.

I have absolutely experienced the sudden outburst of emotions during acupuncture. It’s wild to have such huge emotions pour out, emotions I didn’t even know I had. I need to express that, while I know there are competent and well-meaning mental health professionals out there, in 20 years I’ve met a lot of them and not one has helped. Most of them have caused more harm to me and my family. It seems the “good” therapists are the ones on RU-vid (the ones trying to help more people than those who walk in the door with money). Videos like this, along with a spiritual approach to understanding my own trauma, have provided me with the tools to understand my issues and how to overcome them. The mental health profession as a whole is, like other institutions in this country, missing the mark. Thank you so much for making these videos so that people can help themselves when the system fails.

In my experience my body just shuts down the emotion, like when I need to cry. Unconsciously I’ll take a breath and it goes away. But every time that happens it comes back worse and it eats away at me.

I can't afford therapy and I have an autoimmune disease called Rheumatoid Arthritis I got it when I was 15 and now I'm 20 I didn't know I have trauma I used to think that I'm sensitive my family members call me a coward they get irritated for buying me medicines and they are tired of me. And I am tired of myself too as I don't have a job. I didn't know what's wrong with me but from the past few months, I got to know that I have trauma and even if I want to go to therapy my family won't allow it. Once I talked about therapy to my family they rejected it. So I have only RU-vid and Instagram to heal my trauma I don't know how but I am gonna heal myself and make myself independent your videos are helping me. Thanks 💜

I was a PA in the ED for over a year after school. Had to move into specialty after because I was tired of throwing up in toilets every day from anxiety. Wish I had known more about this stuff earlier. But I’ve been MUCH better in my job for the past few years now :)

The session is not free...it's almost 200$... So many of us realize we have things to work on due to our traumatic experiences (ones outside of our own control, that we shouldn't have to pay for. I didn't choose this for myself, I was put through it). But we can't afford to get the help we need to better our lives, as well as those around us. What's the solution to this. Outside of universal healthcare, I can't think of anything else..😅 I also have undiagnosed ADHD. My executive function is nearly disabled. So knowing and doing what should be done, on my own, is so overwhelming that it doesn't get done. Some of us need the structure of a professional to help us dig out of our child trauma holes. So. Anyone have solutions for getting structured professional help without the finances to do so?

I have been through a lot... I am a woman and don't look how I did when I was " innocent " ... however this will help EVERY trauma I use a worksheet called "Thought Log" ( I can email to you if you want a copy) . It has helped me a lot... you write: - what's bothering you - your thoughts about it (this is what you base your " alternative thought on", below) -your emotions -now write " alternative thoughts " to the thoughts that you wrote above ... basically an opposite thought to your first original thought... Then you will feel a shift inside...and your feelings will change and oftentimes how the person that offended you... their feelings change towards you too

I made a discovery recently about my abandonment wound from my absent father and how it subconsciously affected me my whole life. Being a root wound It was buried so deep that when I made this realisation I started shaking violently. I knew instantly I was releasing trapped emotions. I felt so much lighter afterwards 😊

I’m very glad I came across this video, I feel it was a miracle to be honest. I’m an Ex service man and after coming out of the army I started to go done hill. It took 7 years to get a diagnosis of dissociative ptsd and dissociative amnesia. I am actively trying to recover myself/ my emotions. For a year I’ve been weight training and dieting which has transformed my life, as well as studying Trauma to understand it. Once again I am very grateful for your video... Blessings from England

Even though I'm pretty young (15) I have been diagnosed with dissociative amnesia for a long time (ironically can't remember lmao) which has partially explained the memory loss of most of my life and childhood Which recently I have been diagnosed (/medically recognized) with DID, which is dissociative identity disorder, which answers questions but leaves many more My current therapist is very under qualified to be able to help me (she mainly helps with behavioral things and addictions), cause DID is a cptsd disorder, along with me having other certain mental disorders, then having limited options, it's difficult to get proper help But I just wanted to lyk you aren't alone! Dissociation in general and dissociative amnesia is difficult, but you aren't alone at all! And I hope you are doing good, and your recovery and coping things are going well too! ❤❤❤

In the middle off dancing around letting my body go I felt my body wanting to cry…something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but because of my past traumas my body just couldn’t let it out. When I was little, I used to wake up shaking every Christmas Eve night. My Mom thought I was just excited, but no-I was truly miserable. This was not something I really remembered until many years later, but my parents, who were divorced, had a terrible, physical fight around Christmas (might have been Christmas Eve), when I was about two years old. I’m positive it was that. Even when I got older, I sometimes had panic attacks every Christmas Eve. Sometimes I still do, and I’m 44 and both my parents are dead. My question is, how did this get stuck at that young of an age? You’d think at 2, I would have been more like the polar bear. Also, I once had an acupuncture experience where I felt like a trapped emotion got released. It seemed to have to do with a tragedy involving my friend’s parents, and I seemed to store it in my hip.

Yes.. it’s normal. It’s due to the large amount of adrenaline being pushed through your system.. problem is that with trauma it is often released in much larger amounts than is needed, this leads to this feeling of sickness.

You guys need to heal your throat chakras! Watch RU-vid videos on how to do so, usually when you are stressed or anxious and you feel something stuck in your throat it’s because you want to say something and don’t you hold back and push down that negative emotion to get rid of it but when we do that it grows (like a giant sadness of energy that we’ve ignored for years) when you feel this way talk to yourself ask why you are feeling this way? Reason with yourself rather than push yourself in the dark

I feel like I can’t yawn when I get anxious. What’s helped is to accept the feeling and let it be. Instead of trying to take in more air, be content with less. After that, I’ll usually yawn and feel better.

Some people go to therapy, but they aren't interested in getting anything to act on. They aren't interested in making changes in their life. This is what my therapist told me some of her clients were like. She split clients into two groups depending on what they wanted. Some just wanted her to listen to them, but they weren't interested in making changes, others really wanted her to give them suggestions on changes they could make.

As with most conversations, the amount of talking vs. listening should be about 50/50. If you (or your therapist) is doing most of the talking, then it is not a healthy communication relationship. In other words, there are times when you need to pour out your soul. But on average, it should be about equal. Plus, the therapist should be helping with problem solving, teaching new ways of thinking, teaching relaxation, giving homework, etc. Unfortunately most therapists are just sympathetic parrots. That's ok for some people, but I think it is a waste of my time.

I have complex PTSD. One of my adrenal glands was destroyed by a hormone producing tumor. It had to be removed and now my other adrenal gland is struggling. I asked an endocrinologist if trauma can cause adrenal tumors. He said it wasn’t possible, but I believe it’s connected. I want to heal, but my body feels like it’s on constant flight or fight. Thank you for these ideas, I’m going to try yoga, acupuncture, and maybe I’ll dance too. Thank you. ❤

I'm an actor, and I use "tremoring" as a warmup. It uses various positions which allow.oir body to naturally "tremor", or shake, and we allow and encourage our bodies to shake. It is also a vocal exercise as well, but I find it most useful for de-stressing and relaxing. It is also used with survivors of trauma.

I am a 62 year old man who has had a recent diagnosis of PTSD ranging back to psychological abuse from young childhood until I was 46 years old. I value this video and it has given me hope. When I was 2 I pulled a pot of boiling water down on me. I almost died and was in the hospital for 6 months. My mom always had a difficult time talking about it, so I don't know a lot, but one thing she told me was that the Dr., who saved my life, said my "nervous system would never be the same." And it wasn't! In my 20's I began to have terribly intense panic attacks, some of which landed me in the hospital. When I mentioned this to a neurologist, he totally dismissed it. He didn't understand how trauma could affect my nervous system. Through much therapy, my anxiety has lessened. This is fascinating.

I honestly would have been surprised if you didn't have a overactive neurological response in your body after what you went through, what happened to you is a big deal. @Anonymouse I can imagine your struggle and appreciate that you are looking for ways to help your dad, that already is awesome itself. Eventually your dad is right tho, relatives can't actively do something to cure the pain, that's up to your dad and a therapist. It is extremely helpful to know that there is someone you can go to and just pour out your heart and them just listening and giving a shoudler to cry on. The only other thing that really helped me personally is when people offered activities, like going for walks in nature, crafting, watching documentaries, whatever one likes. And by offering I mean offering consitantly and not getting frustrated when I say no, because when I'm depressed I tend to say no 5 times before I say yes because I feel like such a burden. Just friendly and calmly letting your dad know you're there to spend quality time and get some dopamine hits whenever he is ready for it. I hope this helps a little xoxo

Yin yoga really helps. If you're not familiar it's the type of yoga where you do more stretching and breathing as opposed to complex poses, so anyone can do it. After a traumatic event (an abuser living in my home) I let it all go during the yin yoga session. I balled my eyes out. Just be alone, cry, sob, scream, do what you need to LET IT GO. I believe 100% that we hold on to trauma in our body and that we have the power to let it go. It made me feel reborn after and enter the calm state. Thank you for this video.

As a kid I was always stuck in the sympathetic response, and for the longest time this was just normal for me. In my late teens and now in adulthood I'm starting to unlearn that "normalcy". I'm learning how to actually self-soothe (not shut down everything emotional in order not to get yelled at for crying), how to take care of myself emotionally and mentally. I'm not crying anymore with a blank face. I'm not tired as much anymore. I'm opening up to the people who love me without worrying as much to get retraumatized. Parents, it's so, so important to help your child work through their emotions. When you talk to your kids after they do something wrong, don't yell and spank (which is hitting, no matter what you call it). When they start crying because they're scared, don't tell them "I'll give you something to cry about". Something less obvious is don't tell them "Its not a big deal". To them it is a big deal, otherwise they wouldn't be upset. Get down to where the child is, don't approach it from where you are as an adult. Please for the love of God, don't tell your child that they do X thing for attention. Mine would always tell me I did X thing that I enjoyed for attention, which would make me feel bad about liking it and that I would always have to defend my interests from them. Don't be a reactive parent, be a responsive one.

I tried this and it was astounding! I feel like a completely different person the day after I did this. I have been clenched up for over a year. My hands hurt, I had intense, daily back spasms, and I’ve been wrecking my teeth with grinding and jaw clenching. My Dr. had no clue how to help me relax. So- “I shook it off”, and then climbed into bed and fell right asleep. Quickly after that, I was awakened by intense shaking and shivering. It didn’t last long. Today, I feel exhausted and relieved. Everything in my body is soft and actually sore, but relaxed. I am going to try this again, and teach this to everyone I care about. Thank you so, so much for making this information public.

When I started doing yoga consistently last year, all my suppressed emotions came up and experienced panic attacks. My therapist told me to not stop doing yoga because it was the main tool that helped me release everything. I’m still doing it consistently, but with more kindness to my body and my mind. I started to became more mindful and self-aware of everything I do, too. I still get triggered, but I try to welcome them and be more of an observer than a judger. I also started to rekindle my relationship with God through yoga, it’s like my prayer and alone time with Him. Idk what other people think about yoga, but for me, it’s one of the tools that saved me ❤ thank you for this!! Somatic therapy helps. It might not be the only answer, but it really does help because your mind might forget, but your body definitely remembers.

I am a teacher and I have been experiencing anxiety this year worse than I have ever had it. I’ve been losing hair, not sleeping, etc. There have been some times here lately where I think I I would feel better if I could just have a good cry, but I can’t seem to make myself. I know my emotions are all bundled up in my body. This is something I can actually implement. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I, and am sure many others, are very thankful.

Hun with the other symptoms such as hair falling out, could be down to a deficiency maybe iron or a vitamin.. go doctor’s just to get your bloods checked.. then u can deal with it.. I had an iron deficiency feeling better.. hope u do too 💜

I am a teacher also. This year has been extremely difficult. We have dealt with the challenges of teaching online. Students have lost their loved ones. I have made many referrals. We are expected to be fine throughout all of this and we aren’t. My insomnia has gotten worse. These videos are helpful and we are grateful for this channel!

It's crazy to say that I'm looking forward to grad school in the fall because it'll be less stressful. Me too. Get a physical like someone else commented. Stay away from caffeine. I think it's also because we've been under stress for over a year then our bodies are like ok that's enough. Talk it out with someone get sun and take a walk. Pamper yourself with self care. Pray if you can't cry or watch some movies. Your going to be fine this too shall pass. 🤗

I've struggled with postnatal anxiety for a while and whenever I'm feeling super disembodied I usually dance as much as I can because a) it's always helped me feel better and b) I can simply tell my daughter that mama feels like dancing, so she happily joins in. Amazing to realise that the calming effect is an actual biological response and not just me distracting myself, which was what i was told to believe.

@@mrscpc1918 i'm so sorry, but sometimes DBT is kinda CBT, but a bit better. if you think dissociation was induced by trauma, I recommend a well trained trauma therapist; especially if it was childhood trauma, IFS (systemic family) therapy with someone who works well with trauma (EMDR would be good, phychosomatic therapy If you feel trapped stuff). Dissociation is, for me, a result of childhood trauma; I've only been in therapy one month and I feel a lot less dissociation. Anyways, I hope you find a way to feel better! ♥️

I had parts therapy for 3.5 years, it was wonderful. I learned about the different parts of me, about boundaries and what that means. I had 6 sessions of Alexander technique, My practitioner sort of moved me into a position which made me really shake and cry. He gave me a drink of water and I sat for a little while....that too was a very helpful experience. He said that I had released a trauma which had been in my body.

Have you thought of trying somatic therpay? That actually helps release the stored trauma from the body. I hear it helps those where CBT hasn’t done much.

I have been through a lot... I am a woman and don't look how I did when I was " innocent " ... however this will help EVERY trauma I use a worksheet called "Thought Log" ( I can email to you if you want a copy) . It has helped me a lot... you write: - what's bothering you - your thoughts about it (this is what you base your " alternative thought on", below) -your emotions -now write " alternative thoughts " to the thoughts that you wrote above ... basically an opposite thought to your first original thought... Then you will feel a shift inside...and your feelings will change and oftentimes how the person that offended you... their feelings change towards you too

I feel I may have found the tool box I've been searching for here. I was unwanted. I've explored just about everything under the sun and have made amazing progress. However, something deep in my body forbids deep emotional intimate connection. It isn't in my head and it's not in my heart. There's lots of peace in my life, but no connection with humans...nature eats out of my hand. I look forward to "shaking this off" and hopefully building the warm, uplifting, nurturing and secure family life that I was not born into. It's not only been immensely frustrating and depressing for me, but many potential beautiful women have been exposed to this internal disconnect. Suck City. Ok, I think The Cars "Shake it up" is about as appropriate as can be. Thanks Doc.

Seriously I have lived with mental health setbacks due to trauma. In all my years, I have never had a single more productive therapy sesh than this one. I just want to tell you that God loves you more than you could ever want to be loved! He wants a personal relationship with you if you will let Him into your heart. The most important decision you will ever make is where you will spend eternity. The Bible says that you can know that you have eternal life in heaven, but If you are putting your trust in anything other than the finished work of Jesus on the cross to get you to heaven, you do not understand God's way. The Bible says that we are all sinners. When God created Adam and Eve, He made them perfect without sin, but they chose to disobey God and became sinful in nature. This sin nature was passed down to all humanity. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Our sin separates us from God. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; A holy, righteous God cannot allow sin into heaven. Sin must be paid for and God's price for sin is death, but not just a physical death, but a spiritual death which means separation from God forever in hell. Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. In the Old Testament when man sinned, God required the sacrifice of a perfectly spotless lamb as a substitute in the place of the sinner. The blood of that lamb was only a temporary payment for their sin and so this had to be done often. Jesus Christ, God's Son took on flesh, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and offered Himself as that perfect, spotless Lamb and shed His blood as payment for the sins of the whole world. John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Jesus loved us so much He WILLINGLY came and allowed wicked men to spit on Him, mock Him and scourge Him until He was unrecognizable. They stripped him naked, thrust a crown of thorns on His head and nailed His hands and feet to a cross. He hung in agony for hours bleeding, thirsting, struggling for every breath. He died innocently in our place so that we could be saved from going to hell. It was His blood that satisfied the just demands of a holy God. God will not accept anything else. There is no greater love than that! John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The good news is that Jesus didn't stay dead in the grave. He came back to life 3 days later just like He promised and He still lives today! Matthew 28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Jesus did all this because He wants to give you the FREE gift of eternal life in heaven with Him! You cannot do anything to earn your own way into heaven. You can't work for it, be baptized for it, go to church for it or try to be good enough for it. It is a FREE gift that God is offering to anyone who will simply receive it by faith. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast. God said there is only one way to get to heaven, but it is not hard. You must admit you are a sinner headed for hell. You must believe that Jesus died and paid for your sin with His own blood on the cross, was buried and 3 days later rose from the dead. Then you must repent of your sins and call on God for mercy to save you from hell and give you eternal life in heaven with Him. Romans 10:9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. None of us deserve God's mercy and grace, but let me warn you that if you reject His FREE gift, you are already condemned and when you die, you will suffer the torment of burning in hell for eternity in a lake of fire where you will be forever separated from God and all that is loving and good. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Please don't wait. Don't take the risk of putting it off until another day, repent, turn to Christ NOW wherever you are at because you aren't guaranteed to live another day on this Earth. When you shut down one emotion, your shutting down a lot other emotions. That is EXACTLY what I’ve been dealing with and you just helped me connect the two. I’ve been shunned from my family 22 years due to leaving the cult I was raised in- they all stayed. 1 month ago I found out one of my brothers was found dead in his home. And I was/am not allowed at his funeral, cause of death or knowledge of where he is buried. I told myself I’m ok, I don’t have to feel this pain. For weeks I have walked in a state of apathy- now I know why, And how to help myself. Thank you for all the help you provide

What i have experienced from many people who have gone through some kind of trauma (from irritation to significant stress) is to lash out at whoever is available. This of course, just passes the stress to others, just like passing a virus through a sneeze. Your examples of the polar bear, and the young Haitian nurses is very simple, but very good advice. I was really drawn to yoga when all of my trauma came crashing into the forefront of my life. And it turns out, yoga is a great tool for treating ptsd! I guess my body knew what I needed better than I did! Lol. Thanks for the video this was super interesting :)

Thanks again for this. Feelings are called feelings because we feel them. When we hold onto them, we literally store them in our bodies and our stories keep them stuck there. The idea of processing and releasing emotions through the body, even through crying, in my experience, can open us up, allow our minds to be more flexible and in that space, open the doors for greater perspective and happiness.

I can't cry or rather I'm scared to cry.I have been having swallowing issues and I had a swallow study done and I have had a indoscopy done and everything checks out fine He says I can eat anything but I can't.I feel the same choking sensation.I have been scared to cry.I know that's sounds crazy and also have lost quite a bit of weight.I watch these platforms hoping to gain insight.You all have helped.

One time, in HS, I was about to speak to the class and my body was filling with adrenaline. I then had a sort of mental and physiological realization, being nervous was silly because I was completely safe. And, in an instant, all that adrenaline turned into a euphoria that I've never experienced since. I've never been able to replicate this....

DR. Sarno talks about this in his book ! it’s US ! meaning YOU ! We get stuck in trances or a self destructive cycle UNCONSCIOUSLY MEANING OBVIOUSLY we are not deliberately causing our conditions We must use tools to change our subconscious. Some doctors will never understand this unfortunately

I truly believe playing piano and singing has been 1 of many things aiding me in healing from the stressful event of balancing a house buy with a new job offer that was very worthwhile. When I was a kid dancing silly and singing was something I would do regularly. When I got to college though I was too afraid to show that silly side of me (paper thin walls) and it naturally led to panic and anxiety which was followed by violent shaking of the body.

I was walking home last night, carrying bags and distracted by my phone. I approached the corner where a car was waiting on me to turn. As I was a few steps from the curb I tripped over a piece of metal from a sign and did this trippy, twisty stumble to try not to land on my face lol Succeeding in this effort, my immediate reaction as I crossed was laughter. I laughed. The person in the car laughed. It was great! It's definitely a better auto response then getting angry because I was able to carry on with my evening and laughed again later when I chastised myself for being on my phone when I should have been paying attention and aware of my surroundings.

I had no knowledge of any of this beyond the simple understanding that there is a subconscious mind (from Freudian psychology) and that there are defense mechanisms and one of them is projection. That's about it. But I pretty much discovered this knowledge about feelings automatically. I had many addictions and bad habits and was very troublesome and ended up homeless and in isolation in a bush. Life had cornered me and there was nothing else to do and nowhere else to run. I was truly cornered in various ways. Then it all started. Something would happen and I'd be sat down in stillness and silence by sheer depression and in that I would surrender totally. Not even wanting to breath, just giving up. And the feelings would arise, and then this automatic exorcism of emotion would ensue and I'd just exhale as deep as I could to get through it. It was like vomiting emotion. It was kinda dramatic. But silent and just in a seating position in a chair. You see, depression is not an illness, but a function we hinder. It is a provision to overcome the problem created by our minds. Our minds as humans have the ability to avoid feelings which other animals do not have. They can run from things, not from their feelings. We run from feelings externally in many ways, but mostly, just the fact of our attention being focused on external things is one fundamental way we do it. I call it externalization. We also have the ability to day dream in a way other animals do not, and so even when we are not busy running away from our feelings, we are fantasizing or dreaming about something as a way of practicing evading our feelings. It's hard to describe because it can be pretty sophisticated and tricky. You can also see it in others too. So depression deal with this unique problem we as humans have. But of course, the mind hinders that too, in various ways. When you mind has given up and you're hanging on by a thread, your natural instincts surface on their own, and you have everything inside of you, including a therapist and medication and all of that. It's truly amazing. So these purges of emotion would happen every so often, as if life and my system were co-conspirators intent on helping me in some often painful ways that were necessary. I would use the new found energy to devise all kinds of narratives of what this was, but eventually I saw that it was just natural and simple and processing of feelings. That feeling was the major component in terms of information and the nervous system and thoughts were a minor component. Each time my system would deep process these suppressed feelings of various kinds from various types of things, I'd be a little more open, unblocked, integrated, motivated, conscious actually. It's like the more you learn at school, the smarter you become. Well the more feelings your process, the more conscious you become. It's not that hard to believe. After enough of these episodes I would have some deeply spiritual experiences that I won't talk about here because it's not the right context. But I can tell you that in all of this, I've transformed as a human being in the space of 1 year, and can never be the same person. I've also had experiences that I can confidently say, and without violating reason and rational for this audience, the most incredible and powerful and best things I have ever felt in my life times 100 but without any drugs. Just pure meaning.

I have been struggling with tension in my neck for over a year. I have a seemingly weak vagal tone. In my first acupuncture treatment I became very emotional and was laughing or almost crying for around 5-10 minutes. I have also been doing different vagus nerve activation exercises and when I am able to deeply relax I often cry. During the past year I feel like I have been very out of touch with my emotions and I feel as though my nervous system is trapped in that "freeze" response. There is some deep trauma that needs release.

I’m just another spec in the universe, but you have no idea how much I appreciate these videos! I’ve been fighting with CRIPPLING ANXIETY and religious trauma my entire life, but during yet another sleepless night, worrying about WW3 etc, I came across your channel. Within just a couple of videos, I’m feeling waaaay better and I can feel tension in my body easing up. My mind feels so much more clear and I am determined to carry on using your guidance to better my mental health. Thank you SO much for the amazing work you’re putting out into the world! I just want you to know that Jesus loves you more than you can ever possibly know and he wants to have a personal relationship with you. Precious Memories-By Sonya Lakey Family Story Little did our family of six know that Friday evening, September 24th, 2021, would be the last night our family would be complete. We laughed together, played games, sang, and enjoyed listening as our 16-year-old son, Ethan, played the piano for us. I packed a lunch for Ethan for a church mountain hike he was going on the following day. My mother (who was visiting from out of state) and I woke early with Ethan on Saturday morning. He hugged me and smiled, never pulling away or rushing me. He got in the car, waved, said he'd see me later and he loved me. It was hard to watch my "new driver" heading out on his own that morning. As Ethan pulled out of the gate, I turned to my mother and said, "It's just so hard letting go." Little did I know how much "letting go" I was really doing. That was the last time I saw Ethan. He did not make it home that evening. That afternoon, a friend tried to contact my husband, leaving an urgent message to call him back. He tried several times to return the call to no avail. As we were preparing supper, an overwhelming feeling of deep concern for Ethan filled my heart. I quietly blinked back tears. I glanced out the window, half expecting to see a police officer pull up to the house, but no one arrived. However, within a few minutes, a patrol car DID pull into the driveway. In my heart, I feared the worst. My husband and I went out to meet the officer, who confirmed our fears. Hesitantly, he told us our son had fallen off of a bluff and had succumbed to his injuries. Our hearts were crushed; they still are. Yet, in all of our brokenness, deep, continual grief and loneliness, our family has such a blessed Hope and assurance that we will see our dear son and brother again. You see, when Ethan was a young boy, he was saved; he put his faith in Jesus alone to forgive his sins and to take him to Heaven when he died. He realized some very important truths from the Bible that he would want to share with you. His Story Everyone is a sinner. Sin is any violation of God’s Law. God is holy, just and righteous, and He cannot allow sin in His presence. Ethan realized that he - like all of us - had sinned; and his sin separated Him from God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ” (Romans 3:23) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12) He understood that, because of his sin, he deserved to spend eternity in Hell. “For the wages of sin is death;” (Romans 6:23a) [Wages: price] “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8) Ethan believed that Jesus, God’s Son, paid the price for all sin when He died on the cross - because His sinless sacrifice was the only thing that could satisfy the just demands of a righteous, holy God. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb, but He arose the third day, triumphant over sin, death, and Hell. Jesus is alive today! “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Ethan was sorry for his sin, repented (turned), and received by faith the free gift that God offered to him. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b) Because of this great salvation, Ethan lived his life serving Jesus. He worked hard to spread this Good News to the world. He is alive in Heaven with Jesus today; and because of this great HOPE in Christ, we know we will see him again soon - not because he was a great kid, but because of his faith in the great Saviour! “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28) Your Story What about you? What if you had fallen to your death that day - What if you were to die today? Where will you spend eternity - Heaven or the Lake of Fire? There will not be any parties in the Lake of Fire. It is a place of eternal torment for those who reject God's Son. The Word of God is very clear that there is only One Way to Heaven. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) We did not know that Ethan would step into eternity that day; however, because he put his faith in Jesus alone for his salvation, Ethan was ready to go. Some day - perhaps today - you will take your last breath here on earth, and you will step into eternity. Where you spend eternity is determined by what you do with Jesus Christ. Will you accept Him or reject Him? You are not promised another day or another breath. Eternity begins soon - Are you ready? “...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31b) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “(...behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2 Corinthians 6:2c) ****************************** This testimony has been made into a gospel tract. In middle school I helped many kids get out of terrible home situations. Because of the awful situations I was unable to share it with the outside world. It wasn't until about 7 or 8 years later that I'm finally realizing the trauma and PTSD this gave me. Suppressed memories I didn't even know I had are popping up out of nowhere when I see certain related things such as scars, cut wrists, baseball bats, guns, etc. This one video alone was a major help. thank you.

I’m a tattoo artist and there is a very common term used in our community “tattoo therapy” and in fact I’ve had many clients with past trauma, some who may have struggled with self harm, depression, addiction, and they now use getting tattooed as an outlet. Listening to the physical activation and relaxation makes me think of tattooing because it is a constant cycle of that. I myself after longer sessions have felt lighter and more clear than ever after getting tattooed.

I got my first tattoo at 16 when my family fell apart. I guess that was my way of releasing the grief. I have gotten more ever since and each of them was after some kind of traumatic moments. Thanks for sharing this.

My niece is like this. Her mother is a crazy psycho bitch and it's not surprising therefore that she has trauma issues. I keep wondering though, what will happen when she runs out of space for her tats? I dislike the permanency of tattoos in this context. I wish she could experience relief through making paintings, for example, or another creative outlet, rather than inking her skin.

This is interesting because I want a tattoo but I don’t have one because I think of the ink going into the nervous system and creating illness, this is part of my anxiety because a holistic lady told me once that my piercing may be contributing to my anxiety because the metal affects the nervous system, anywhooo if you could clear this up for me or what the you know about ink and how it affects the nervous system that would be great so if it’s not true I can finally go out and get a tattoo!!! Haha

Just have to make a comment on the energy healing thing - for physical health not mental. When my daughter was about a year old she had an ear infection (her 3rd) and reacted to the penicillin. She had 2 steroid shots and antibiotics that took the reaction away at first, but she had swelling all over her body and rashes from head to toe for nearly 4 days. We couldn't keep it away! My mom was like PLEASE let me take her to this energy healer I know. She hopped in the car with us, we held hands, touched a bottle of some sorts, and my daughter was.....completely better the next day. I can't wrap my head around it!

A few years ago I dealt with my 3rd bout of post partum depression in leas than 5 years. I didn't know anything about my nervous system. One of my therapist showed me this stress chart which was very helpful in explaining what was happening to me but I was never taught any way to release or heal. I did 2 years of therapy to learn how to calm overall and avoid adding so much stress. Was told over and over to use "ground techniques" like deep breathing. Deep breathing did nothing for me in PTSD moments. Finally one day while trying to teach my toddler some emotional regulation I realized I needed big body movement physical releases too before I could calm dowj simplt by taking a deep breath or feeling something cold. I danced and scream sang a few songs and it was the most emotional release I had in 3 years of trying to heal even with professional help.

10:00 unresolved trauma or chronic stress can leave us trapped in the sympathetic response. Thermostat turns on easily and last longer. Trauma gets stuck in the body. 11:00 need to learn how to self regulate throughout the day 11:30 relaxed vigilance

Omg. I had been having pretty extreme anxiety for the past 4 days to the point where I could not focus on any schoolwork or even things I LIKED to do and this advice literally changed my mood and I became my normal self again in 5 MINUTES. I say to all the people out there experiencing anxiety right now, try this!!! It could work for you!
