After reading your book Nic I was inspired to "assemble my avengers" before 2024. It only took a couple weeks and some DM's - but now I've connected with a mixing/mastering engineer AND a producer that's willing to work with me in my budget and believes in my music. It's possible. Your avengers are out there. No excuses - seek them out, stay humble and grow together!
That's exactly what I do for my artist. Making a preset and a template for them to use, so they can record quickly and help me speed up the mixing! Love it!
Shout out to Nic for this video! I tell artists the same thing daily and it’s great to see someone who made it giving the blueprint to releasing music consistently🙏🏾
Been writing down everything you say! I trust you. I produce, mix & master and execute vocals. Will release debut song soon. May I meet you one day. Have a blessed one brother.
100% gold. Good enough. Yeah, always a better way to do things. Just like photography. There's always a better camera. More than likely, it's not the camera - it's the photographer - not the mic - it's the musician. You don't "have-to-have" before you do. Do first.
Love the advice Nic! I discovered a huge passion in music production last week of 2022, and the passion has become an obsession. I've been experimenting with producing different genres and soundscapes and started releasing music a few months ago at the end of September in 2023. During the first several months of 2023 when I experimenting with music production I was watching videos and reading about mixing and mastering techniques and concepts consistently. I wanted to skill stack production, mixing, mastering, so that I wouldn't have to pay others to do it and I so that I can be self-sufficient and more valuable to others down the line. I've only released instrumental music so far but I want to start releasing music with my lyrics in it so I have been learning vocal recording and vocal mixing as well. There is still a lot to learn in music production, vocal recording, and mixing and mastering, but I really feel that stacking all of these skills is/will be worth the time to learn it.
This channel is a treasure chest for anybody starting out in music or for anyone who been into it for a while and wants to get better! Big shout out to you Nic. So glad I have come across your channel and book.
To encourage people: all my songs are recorded with a cheap ass guitar (Cort X-1), a cheap bass (some Harley Benton), a Roland double-mesh kit, and an Akai MK-3. Everything goes through an old Focusrite into Reaper. Mixing and Mastering is done with mainly free Plug-Ins. I bought an amp sim, that's it. Focus on making good music, not on equipment.
the new paradigm is content creation and curation...if you keep up with music, and you're perceptive enough, to know what's next...just make something and mean it, let the people interpret it, refine it to their liking and preferences...
This was a simple straight to the point video about having a budget and what it takes. I’ve def been over thinking how much everything is going to cost as a new artist trying to make profit from my art. Thanks for this Nic much love
The thing I thought wasn't "where can I get a cheap mix and master"... It's "What did you do for promo?" Lots of people I know produce fantastic songs themselves and no one gets that number of streams without either paying for advertising or doing an insane amount of gigging and self promo

You are amazing! Besides your music, just as a thought leader for independent artists, your talk with Kyle Beats on your Ranch, your podcast and all the interviews you've done taught me a lot about getting things done in the creative space of music, and your personal notes and touches from your own experiences makes your content so much more realer than those other "how to blowup on Spotify in 30 Days" guys who don't have own music to show for. As it seems and how often you show yourself with valuable content, you seem like the new Russ :)
Hey Nic, appreciate you putting these out. It seems to me that you’re a pretty logical/operational thinker and I’m wondering how that translates into the creative side of writing/recording. Wondering if you could do a video talking about your workflow for that - do you structure your weeks and plan to write/record on specific days, everyday, etc.
it feels like real educational video i really love how everything is simple and friend from a big artist he's really humble to give us his time and share valuable moment
2:42 These are fantastic points and a great strategy! It's very similar to what I do with my $50 mix+master package. In fact, one of the key benefits of working with the same engineer for multiple tracks is consistency. This becomes crucial when building towards larger projects like EPs or albums, ensuring a cohesive sound throughout. Remember, a decent recording lays the foundation for a decent mix and master. So don't expect miracles - you get out what you put in.
@@Dajtheartistt Thanks for reaching out! While I don't post links directly in comments, you'll find all the details you need, including my email, in my channel's 'About' section
@@ItsRlyAntonio If I understand your question correctly, the best way is to send each individual track so that they all start from 0:00 (consolidated). For example, if you have an instrument that starts in the middle of the song, you still want it starting from 0:00 and keep the silence. Remove any limiter or headphone correction plugin at the end of the chain, and pay attention to how parallel processing affects your tracks.
That looks like a great country life. Man!!!, I love nature…. What you speak is pure strategically possible.. thank you kindly for the insight… be well..
Thanks bro! Currently the only thing I do not do is the master. It has taken me a long time to learn, but the last two songs I made were 100% made by me. And now that I do them alone, I feel more satisfied and those 2 songs are the one the public likes the most :D🌚Greetings from Panama🔥
Thank you for sharing all of these nuggets of information. I’m excited to look back a year from now after implementing them and see the impact they will make. 🙏
Starting to get familiar with this channel. A lot of great gems!🙌🏽 I always keep the independent/DIYer artist in mind when it comes to selling my beats on my store. I understand that I and the artist are both growing independent businesses. Why not help and make it quality/affordable for the people that help grow my business.🤞🏽❤️🔥✨
One of the previous videos said there are people who love music so music that working as a musician is enough. Yes. I know thousands. It’s most of what I do and what I am so work as a musician is a privilege for me. Today? Thank you again. Like you said, if the producer agrees? It works. The price points are good for people getting started or anyone doing solo work, or just something totally new, alone . I truly appreciate what you are saying. Enough is enough. Get going without too much over thinking. Thanks for making the time to do these. Absolutely no way I can think this was necessary- you could just shut off on a property and disappear behind 100 top 40 hits and percentaged mysteriously suddenly successful bands charting all of a sudden. No. Book and these? Thank You 🙏 ~ stefan
Bro, i`m an artist from Brazil and u are inspiring me a lot! could u give us some tips to record(mic), at home? No treatment here, just a mike and a lot of noise haha. thanks my man!
I'm confused. Who doesn't make their own music? Is there actually a market for song bits? I just use a Tascam, Ableton live, and ai vocals. It really isn't that hard. I thought by "release" he ment actually release on iTunes. Who TF pays for beats? I'll give you 25 banger beats for free right now. I'll take me 5 minutes.
eye opening content. I love your approach to releasing music. really taking the artsy approach out of it to focus on business and driving streams. makes perfect sense for making a living off of music as a indie artist.
I’m glad I found your channel! I’ve been singing and for me I learnt production and mixing first, but I’m going to try your release strategy for 2024. I’m also nodding to the workflow you do with your producer/engineer. If you can create a relationship like that and have an efficient workflow, I feel that’s totally do-able with growing producer/creators like me too. Let’s grow together guys 🔥
Lot of this is how my producer & I do it & when I produce for other artists how we do it. Definitely works and is game changing. The studio rates are crazy, and not always worth the price
Hi Nick. Thanks for this video. 🎥🎞️Hope to get your Audio 🔊 book. Just the Audio if possible❓At 57 I have lived through a lot of recession's. So Diskokid makes me uneasy because if we did not have the money to pay their yearly fees they could take all our music down. We had this problem with another distribution company. Money wasted. I suppose it depends on your circumstances. And how often you release music. ♥️
Hey man. If Im a producer and I work with artists is the principles the same since i do all my mixing mastering and compositions. I basically make a beat and then get one or more artists on the beat.
hey Nic in case of when we are just starting to post music, would be a better idea to first release the songs in youtube and tiktok snipets until we get a decent amount of followers and after that invest in buying the beats? (supposing that the dude don't create his own beats)
Unfortunately this only true for certain genres. If you’re making music that sounds like the foo fighters or Coldplay, you’re not getting out of the studio without spending at minimum $500 per song and that’s cheeeap. 2k per song is more likely and it obviously goes up from there. Can’t always just “buy a beat”. Also, worth noting that some music requires mix engineers who really know what they’re doing. Some rock sessions consist of 150 tracks and 20 or more of those are just drum mics
But you’re absolutely right, some people spend more than they need to. Especially in the hip hop world. Maybe I just found the wrong corner of the internet
Thanks for your advice for new artists brother, I just started my journey although I’ve been playing for most of my life. Good vibes 😎 If anyone is looking for someone to mix and master their music for an excellent price, reach out to me here! I’d love to hear some new stuff and collaborate with other musicians.
Who was your mixing and mastering engineer on the comeup ? And who mixed & mastered "Sundown" and "Fine apple" ? Atleast give us names cause there's no credit anywhere
Thanks for all the advice imma put in the work will report the progress on this comment years for now I'm not gonna quit. Your book was great BTW specially the workbook. I think I got it and everyone else can get it with enough work.
Hey Nic thanks for the advice! I'm wondering what you think or how you would change your approach if you had a full band. In my group we have a lead singer, 2 guitars, a bass and drums. I could see us recording everyone but the drums directly into our DAW but needing a studio and/or lots of equipment for the drums. Let me know what you think. Thanks again for the advice!
Thanks bro! Quick question. What camera would you recommend for tiktok content? I’m looking at your videos and they’re just so much cleaner than mine and I know that has to convert to more views. Thanks 🙏🏻
Yeah... that $50 mix and master is the key. If most of us could find someone to mix and master our songs for $50, we would be releasing songs constantly. I would have a catalog of 300 songs on Spotify. LOL
That’s the thing - you can find someone to mix and master for $50. I had 2 options for $50 mix and master. They are out there - you have to do the research/take the time to find them.
@@frdiforartists Ok, I'll look around a little more for that $50 mix and master. Thanks Nic. Also... how about make a video on song length. How long do you think the average song should be in 2024? 1:30? 3:30? 2:00? I would think... the shorter your songs, the more songs you can make and the shorter your songs the more streams you'll get? What's your thoughts on song length Nic D?
