Hi Saigon, thank you very much. I'm glad it was helpful.

Very helpful for the isolated step covered. I also followed it step by step, with success. I thankfully had a crank removal tool in a cheap $35 bike tool set from amazon that worked perfectly, and found yet another useful tool in this case of odd looking bike tools. And you can just use a 14mm socket on a regular socket wrench to remove the initial bolt, without needing the special dual socket/ allen tool shown in the video. This video helped me to realize I could just hold the crank arm, while turning the other bolts in the opposite direction. It had seemed I was going to need to go roam the neighborhood to track down a second 14 mm socket to borrow to hold the opposite side; and then, again, on the second removal step, I thought I'd need to find some mechanism to hold the opposite crank arm. Nope. I'm a thin 'girl' (actually woman), with fairly scrawny arms, and I had enough strength to hold the crank while turning against it for both steps. That, and knowing which tool I needed after removing the 14 mm socket is what I really needed to know and this video gave perfect shots to show this info. I had to remove the crank only to replace a broken plastic chain guard.... Now, looking at this removed crank/ chain ring, it makes me wonder how you would ever separate them to change the chain ring? Mine look permanently attached to me. I wish the video could have presented at least even some quick mention of this at the end, to lead you into the next step, giving some idea of what would be ahead, next... even just a quick one sentence summary statement, while pointing out what you are seeing on the removed crank arm/ chain ring attached to each other. Or you could show a link for a video for the next step of changing the chain ring, with the written video description? Thanks for the part shown anyways. I greatly appreciated it.

Hi, is the crank puller universal in size? I mean regardless of brand, make of bike one crank puller fits all?
@ebolarnator1794
@ebolarnator1794 4 года назад
I removed my crank arms for the first time, and for the first time on my bike in 5 years as far as I know. I highly recommend using an oven glove to grip the spanned or arm on the puller as mine for one was f**king tight! Put some grease on the bottom crank before putting the crank arms back on! It'll make it easier in the future to remove again.

Hi Rommel Suarez, regarding your crank puller size question. If its a square taper or a spline, they use different crank tools. You should check with the bike manufacturer for support. Good luck!

Question: I removed the crankset, installed new bottom Bracket. Reinstalling crankset seems an issue. I have more space than I can remember between the I side of both crank arms and the frame. I can actually see that spindle from the bottom Bracket. Am I missing a piece?? (and I'm pretty sure the BB is the correct size). Any advice?

Once removed and bottom bracket replaced , how do you make sure the cranks are snug fit back on the square or diamond taper? Crank puller works nice to remove the tight stubborn fit. Is it just a matter of hammering down in it and using crank bolts to snug
@izzyramos-gunn9895
@izzyramos-gunn9895 6 лет назад
Shawn Scott No, you never pound them on because they need to be perfectly straight. Just tighten the crank bolt or nut back on and that will press the crank arm right back on slowly. Tighten until the bolt is snug.

We don't sell them, but you can go to your local bike shop to purchase one or have them remove the crank for you. For real. On a fixie you stop by your muscles slowing the crank rotation and by leaning over the front handlbars enough to take weight off the rear wheel and skid it.

Getting a few allen wrenches and basic bike tools for basic bike maintenance is really important - especially if you're on the road and something goes wrong. I have a saddlebag and a multi tool and tubes to "save a ride" and it has come in handy. However, always recommend finding a local bike shop and taking your bike for regular safety checks and maintenance. Thanks for watching everyone! - Erica

'permanently ..... your bicycle'. Subtitles also doesn't know for sure, for it greys out the word 'used'. I'm not a native speaker. Sometimes you speak very fastly, thereby the consonants of the word are oftenly pronounced shortened. Could someone tell what word he said?

@road_bike_outlet 7 лет назад
Hi Thomas Hoyle. It is a warning to be sure to go slowly and carefully to avoid damaging your crank set when removing the bottom bracket. He said, "....on a crank set because now your crank set is permanently fused to your bicycle."

RoadBikeOutlet Hello, I understood so far that he had mentioned it as a warning. I just couldn't figure out what word he was saying, thus fused. Thanks for your support. Now he is also saying some crucial information about the difference between a square taper and a diamond taper. Finally he is saying something acronymous. At: 4:08 'It has a square, you kind of ...' The tool with the rotating threaded barrel is a crank puller, or crank extractor, your choice. It nowadays comes with one thread size, which is called, "English" thread. Older ones had a reversible barrel with "French" threads on the other end. This particular style of puller as used in the video is mainly for square-or-diamond-tapered spindles, and may not work with some of the newer types of BB/cranksets. There are other types of pullers for most of the new designs, and at least one newer style uses common tools, such as Allen wrenches. The tool with a hex-socket type head is a crank wrench, and it's for removing the nut or bolt that secures the crank to the spindle. A ratchet & socket will do the job as well, provided the wall of the socket is thin enough to fit in the smallish opening on the crank. When reinstalling the crank, the only things really necessary are to carefully clean all the mating surfaces of the tapers, and to make sure the fastener is very tight upon completion. Combo wrenches work slicker than adjustable wrenches, but you can much more easily carry a single small adjustable wrench in your saddle bag for roadside repairs.

@ethansloss6854
@ethansloss6854 9 лет назад
+geeloof on a fixed gear or fixie, the rear sprocket is fixed to the rear hub which means If the rear wheel is turning so are your pedals.
@geeloof
@geeloof 9 лет назад
+Ethan S yea but you turn the crank and the wheel doesnt move. Doesnt that make it single speed?
@ethansloss6854
@ethansloss6854 9 лет назад
The gear is fixed to the hub not the axel. On a single speed the gear is only fixed to the hub in one direction (forward) meaning when you're riding but not peddling the cranks wont turn.
@ethansloss6854
@ethansloss6854 9 лет назад
On a bike that's not a fixed gear you cant pedal backwards to go backwards.
@road_bike_outlet
@road_bike_outlet 9 лет назад
+geeloof I am sorry you were confused. Nearly every bike in our fixed gear category has what is called a flip flop hub, meaning it has two sides: the freewheel side and the fixed gear side. The freewheel side allows you to coast or stop pedaling while the bike is in motion. On the fixed gear side, if the rear wheel is moving, the pedals move with it. This does not allow the ability to stop pedaling if the bike is moving. There are benefits to each, and as the rider, you will have the option to choose which you prefer. I hope this helps. If not, call us at 904.425.1366 and we'll be more than happy to assist. Ethan S - thanks so much for the info and insight.
