You made me laugh, but I did learn that I was right in thinking I needed to drain the fuel. I thank you!

Well I learned that the grill is what is keeping me from removing my hood. Thanks.

I got to give you props for being able to lift the hood off by yourself. I've never tried it because 1) I don't want any more back problems. 2) I don't want to possibly damage the radiator neck or fuel bowl or anything else I forgot to unhook. 3) do any kind of paint or sheet metal damage. If I take one off myself I get a engine hoist with nice straps and lift straight up nice and slow and make sure everything is unhooked and cleared. If I have a helper each person goes on the side and lift straight up. The key is straight up. Naturally you'd have to take your steering wheel off.

Your method is a smart one. Ideally I’d like to have two helpers, but more often than not, I am working alone. I need to invest in a decent hoist.

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the commentary as well. Nice comedic touch to some of the issues we run into with these old gals.

Removing the steering wheel helps a lot. I have a 9N with the battery sitting higher and centerline and without the ratchet strap modification. - Joe -

The ratchet strap mod was intended to be temporary. But it works so good, I just left it. Nice observation. Haha.

The one i wirked on, i took the fuel line loose from the carb, fitted on a piece of rubber fuel line to the steel line and let it drain into a fuel can

For the record guys its easier to take the bolw bolt out and take a funnel and 5 gallon gas can it fits perfectly under the tractor

Very helpful video! I was hoping I didn't have to remove those front bolts and I could just "swing" it up and off like a door (where it would be attached, but out of the way), but I guess the fuel tank is too close to the radiator to allow that.

So, what I learned from this is that it is important to be social enough to at least have one friend to help you remove the hood. I was really wanting to see how to put the hood assembly on, since I recently bought a fully restored 41 9N, but the hood assembly was not on. So, I could reverse engineer it easily from the video, but I'm wondering if I should attach the grill before or after putting the hood on. All my parts seem to be factory fresh.

@MrJustinWheeler 2 года назад
Hey Carl! I'd recommend putting the grill on AFTER the hood if you have a second set of hands. Good luck on the project!

Supposed to be square caged nuts on the radiator support for the dog legs but most rusted away decades ago. New aftermarket hoods are mean to get to fit correctly.

Do you have or know where I can buy an Upper Right-Hand side 8N Lift Arm Hub? The round ID is splined. It attaches on the round spline that goes thru the upper case and has the same round spline on the left-hand side. The other end is forked and pinned to the lift arm. Thanks.

I’d check the owner’s manual. It’s usually in the glove box. Or not.

Lol I’ve been looking all over for the glove box! 🤣

I don't think any of these come with owner's manuals any more. It seemed to me that some company wanted an arm and a leg for a copy. These things are so simple that fortunately there are videos from people who have figured things out.

I have a 50 model. I need to do the same thing . When I take my hood off. I want to modify a bracket to place my gas tank on. So I just flip my hood over. Like the Massey's Ferguson TO30.

I wish I could lift mine by myself but no. A hoist/come-along and sling set up can make one man job easier though. Back injuries are no laughing matter.🚑🩼🦽
