Great tutorial again. My wife & I are about to take on this task and replace the cooktop with an induction range. Q. After shutting off the gas, what method is best for capping off the line? Seems capping it off would be best practice and safest. Possible new video tutorial? Thanks again for the video. Definitely one we can take on ourselves and save a little by doing so. Very much appreciated 🙏
We appreciate you sharing this, you will find this to be a friendly DIY project. Once gas is shut off, a few viewers have shared that they turn cooktop on and burned remaining gas in line feeding to burners however some viewers have mentioned they tried that and burners wouldn’t even ignite due to no gas…personal preference on that step. Please keep us posted on your project, looking forward to hearing back from you.
Yeah, I'm doing research on replacement. It's "NEVER" as easy as it looks. How many DIY have something older than 20 years???? Me. My problem with this example: a.) The installation looks "fairly new". 3:14 Cutting free the "old" pan will need to be done with an oscillating tool. Not X-acto blade. b.) Access into the area is never easy. c.) 2:00. Any "older than 10 years" system won't come off this easy. Old pipe sealant is like concrete. d.) You will need to be a "small person" and climb down and get two wrenches and elbow space to remove. e.) Even better"break those" cabinet separator pieces. (glue back later with bracket). In order to get access, but you may be lying on your back like working on a car. f) Also rip out those wall anchors, you will probably need to replace the gas lines. Again, something you can't just reach inside to do. Then ofcourse, you have to re-install to comply with code and keep away from moving cabinet. g.) BTW, anyone ever spill liquids or oils near the cooktop? There's probably some damaged wood under the cabinet. Wood? Probably cheap fiber board. Add another day of repair. This will easily be a 2 -4 day job. REmoving, cleaning, vacuuming, re-installing, repairing(breaking those cabinet separators). Make that 5-7 day job. Done right. h.) Make sure you have a small electric hot plate or something, while your system is down. Actually, this motivates me to consider just chopping an opening and just get a separate oven cooktop range. Gasline access. Outlet. All there.
Your video makes it look pretty easy and straight forward for a not so good DIY person would u reccomend doing it yourself or should i just get a contractor to remove the gas cooker

Thanks for the video. Well produced and to the point. It helped me gain confidence to do it myself. One question. Was it really necessary to open the electrical box breaker when this cooktop had a regular household plug and socket that could be unplugged?

This helpful but concerned about the clearance due to draws. I'm having a new gas line installed and wondering if best to install as low as possible the yellow hook does get crimped. Additionally I was thinking this wood keep the line close to wall and not obstruct drawer. Any advice is appreciated....cheers
Thanks for watching & we definitely understand your thoughts. A lot of the newer models are bulky...leading to this however there are still a lot of low profile style cooktops. You can hopefully install a regulator that has an immediate 90* angle turn to it to help take up less space. 😎👍🔧🔩
Would you be able to install an induction cooktop with just the setup you found there? (assuming there's enough amperage to that outlet and I guess capping the gas line somehow)
Great video! I'm looking to remove my gas top and purchase one that's installed in an island but would you happen to know or have any ideas on how I can cover the hole where the previous stove top was? 🤔
Thanks for watching & there are several options you can find on the web including transitioning it to a flower bed, a storage bin with a cover, & more...😁 Keep us posted on what you go with. Hope all is well.
