After about 30 minutes of trying to use a screwdriver 🤦♂️ lol. I decided to step back, play Call of duty, smoke a doobe. Watched this video and BAM! THANK YOU AMAZING DAVE. YOU'RE THE REAL MVP.
You are a GOD!!! Just did this on a Hyundai Elantra, I was the 3rd hyundai technician to give it a shot, none of my tricks worked until I tried this! Thank you!
This process saved me big-time. I tried every angle, prying for about an hour. I watched Dave's video and put a vise-grip at the 3 o'clock position, another at about 8 o'clock. Two pops with this new "slide hammer" and out it came. 1999 Camry 4cyl, 104,000 orig miles. Driver's side. THANKS!
You sir are a god send I can’t thank you enough! Two days of frustration, tool rental and you helped in 5 minutes. Dave you’re truly amazing. Thanks again
Hey, Dave! Thanks so much for your 'simple way' (maybe not 'simple' rather an engineer's way of thinking...very meticoulus indeed). If there's gonna be a vote for the best solution of removing a stuck CV axle on RU-vid, you will definitely get my vote. Again, thanks a million!! This really saved me from a two days worth of frustration on getting that stubborn driver's side CV axle out of the transmission...!!!
Wow! I have been working on cars for years. This method worked incredibly well on a 2009 Saturn Outlook where the axle actually broke off. After I attached the vice grip, I gave 1 pull and it came off. I spent 30 minutes prying, pushing , and beating with no success. Thanks again!
What can I say that every body else hasn't. this is a very clever method. I am about to go outside right now and get that thing off after I've already fought it for an hour. This will save me another hour of cursing the paint off the car.
After 3 freaking HOURS of slamming on the axle. I threw on two vice grips and pulled maybe 4 or 5 times and it came out like BUTERRRRRR!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!!!
I was never able to pull out the driver’s side axle. Passenger’s side would come out like nothing. Always had to go to the shop for the driver’s side. It took me a couple yanks with this method and it came out!! Thanks a million, man!!
Thanks for this information! The vice grip method you explain worked. Took a few attempts to get it to work ... No amount of prying would get the axel out . Celebration time !
Thank you! Could not get to the rear of the joint on the driver's side of a 1999 Celica, because it was recessed into the transmission housing. This method saved the day!
Wow, now I get to take all the tools I rented and bought back. They all did nothing for me. But your video, ooo goodness! I had the tool i needed in my own tool box all this while. A Vice grip!!!🤣🤣. Thanks again bud! You’re a life saver.
After trying to pry and hammer out my axle for a few hours, I found your video. I used your technique, and it worked perfectly! Thank you for making the video and detailed explanation. I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla.
You are the man, very clever! I can't count the numbers of methods I used to attempt to remove mine and failed. This worked like a charm for both sides of my Sedona. So effective that I tumbled backwards because it came out so easy. Note, I had to center the ring and rotate the axle a few times before it would come but it worked great. Got to give credit where credit is due. Lastly I used two vice grips to get this to work
Awesome. 2 neighbours and I were trying to remove the passenger for about 4 hours in the rain. Looked at many videos and nothing. Came across yours and tried it. The boot tore off. Added 2 vice grips. Only thing I did different, I was under the truck pounding with the mallet while my neighbor kept constant pressure while pulling
When you called yourself "Amazing Dave", my first reaction was that you were the "tool" . I have to tip my hat to you sir. Your idea of using the CV shaft as a slide hammer is brilliant. Thanks it worked flawlessly.
My accords ball joint bottom nut was too small n went through arm hole n wheel fell to side n axle snapped...thanks to ur video we got the cv cup off quickly.......awesome!!!!!
Absolutely saved my day when my axle came apart while trying to remove it. Cut the boot off, cleaned out some of the grease, and voila! Thanks for making this video.
This is simple genius! I had a stuck one awhile back and didn't find your video. I tried clamping a vise on the inside end the same way and using a body work slide hammer hooked to the vise grip, but it wouldn't come out. I guess it was pulling it at an angle. Don't recall how I finally got it loose. Glad to have this great idea in my bag of tricks for the next stuck one. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. You saved my ass with this outside the box thinking on this one. My wife and daughter and I were stuck on the side of i20 with this little problem. No other videos discussed anything but the CV axles with those hammer grooves without specialized tools. Thanks again.
DAVID!!! Thank you man! Amazing idea with the vise grips!! Worked like a charm, and I was getting soooo frustrated with that thing being stuck. Thank you!
Wow! I'm heading back outside to prepare my stubborn R front CV axle. I'll be using your ingenious removal method with great confidence for success! Thank you David.
Sooo simple and ingenious! Will be trying this one on my 2002 V70 tomorrow for sure! I´ve been trying with prybars for days now and JUST WONT budge.... frustrated as hell... will report back
Well, it was a big gooey mess for awhile. Then it took me around 75 strong hits with this makeshift deadblow hammer trick. My RF CV axle was damaged & jumping around quite a bit before I got the parts to replace it. Guess there was a whole lotta torque applied to the transmission spines & things got a bit wedged in place. But I was convinced your trick was going to work in the end and it did. Thank you again Dave. 10 thumbs up!!😊
DUDE! i fought one with an actual slide hammer and a fork designed for it. Saw this and tried it using the actual cv shaft and the vice grips and popped it out in one pull. Thank you! Straight out is better than a tool that is pulling on one side.
Wow! This was an awesome find. Thank you for making and sharing this video! This worked first time, 1 and 1/2 tugs and my CV was out. Mine may not have been stuck as bad as some others, but this did the trick very quickly and without having to buy additional equipment. Had to take knock the inner axle bearings off the stubs, but that took all of 15 seconds. Thank you again!!!
My man.!!! This worked like a charm. After many hours and right before I took a trip to harbor fright I came across this… thankfully!! Much appreciated
I’m not a big commenter either, but this worked FANTASTIC! I only used one pair of vice grips. I took the bearings off the axle, cleaned all the CV fluid off and inserted it back in, with the vice grips on the side closest the firewall. It took 3 taps/pulls and it popped right out.
I rarely make comments but this one deserves it. Absolute genius. I thought I got my self into a pickle this morning. Hub was loose but that damn retainer ring works like it's designed too. Yes indeed it is a royal mess getting the boot and grease out. My axle was too long to act as a good slide hammer with the knuckle in place. Grabbed the grinder and shortened it. It was bit of challenge to reseat it but once I got it back in two pulls and out it came. Great success
To get the blades off my Deere lawn tractor mower, I use vise grips clamped to the steel rim.. Very like this video That stops the blades turning so I can get the blade bolts straight off. NO more blocks off wood that fall out... Vise grips are the no 1 tool in my kit...
Thank you so much for showing this worked for a day trying to get this out used your method had it out in less than 5 minutes again Thank you very much
Thank you so much, this is a fantastic idea and worked 1st time for me on my Ford Ranger, spent ages trying to get that thing out with hammers and prybars, your way it popped out straight away. Thanks bro.
Great trick, my vehicle has 190k miles and the CV was very stuck. A slide hammer and FWD axle puller attachment didn't work due to lack of room and the axle being recessed. This worked almost instantly!
Thank you for the video, it helped me greatly. Perfect tip. I am disabled and this worked. I even used this on the drivers side 1 pull and it came out.
This is helpful for those that didn't even try Trust me, There's Alot of other ways,But there are those that Don't come out due to damage in the diff area of the transmission which then you have to remove your trans out and open it
Thabk you a million times...ive done this a bunch on my cars but never had one stuck as bad as I did this time and this worked GREAT! Thanks soooo much buddy! Happy holidays!
I used to think I was smart. Then I watched this video. Now I realize how dumb I am. Thank you. I will be using this in a day or two to get a stuck CV out of my SIL's Mazda.
@@captaingenius-o1c The vice grips just kept the axle from being able to separate and thereby allowed the unit to break free from the hold of the circlip doohicky. No hammering
Wow, holy shit. How I didn’t think of this is beyond me. Literally just saved me. Considering my front driver inner cv cup doesn’t actually have an entry to the transmission like yours and thus not having the locking ring that attaches to trans, This method should work out perfectly for me. I’ll update later!
this worked beautifully for me. I used 2 vice grips (one on each side). at first I was yankin and yankin (hard) with no luck. I was pulling slightly at an angle as the strut was in the way. I then decided to spend 10 minutes and remove the strut assembly (this would give me the ability to PULL STRAIGHT instead of at a slight angle). after than, a couple good jerks and it came out.
OMG, one time Sir and that's all she wrote, wowwww wowww wowwww, you are a freaking genius man, thank you thank you so much, you saved me another two hrs of trying to get this thing out, thank you once again
Thank you very much I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to try it tomorrow morning on a 06 Saturn Vue according to all the reviews sounds like it's a winner thank you very much
Hey Well done I having a hard time taking it out, but when I watch your video? it's very easy and I can say no more this video is very useful to those DIY men and women. THANKS BRAH from hawaii guy.
If you plan on keeping the car, consider saving the longer half shaft for the next time you run into this issue. The longer shaft will give the tool more mass, and you’ll be able to use it away from the wheel wells, gaining more leverage over the tool.
thank you sir. After hours of trying to pry off my cv axle this did the trick in about 5 pulls. Definitely messy but I would rather deal with a mess than go the mechanic and spend hundreds of dollars.
Hey man, i got a stuck one too and tried different ways for almost an hour until i found your video. You deserve a sub and will buy you a pint if ever I see you in a pub.😁🍻🍻🍻 Edit: Thank you very much by the way.
Another method is to wrap a chain or strong wire around a 10 lb. sledge hammer. Wrap the other end around the inner cv joint and cinch it. Swing the sledge hammer away from the vehicle. Works every time.
