@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Awesome, thanks Jeff! I will definitely take up your offer if a situation arises. I used to help my grandfather with a ton of projects so I may find my self doing something similar to one of your videos one day, haha. Awesome that you had a chance to spend time with your Grandpa! I never had a chance to meet mine. Not that I can remember anyway, he passed when I was 3 yrs old. He was a carpenter....Guess it is kind of in the blood! Cheers!

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY That's awesome, right on. I guess it does lol. My grandfather was a longshoreman in Philadelphia, but he was pretty handy and over the course of like 30 years he re-did about every room in their house, he had me and my brother helping ever since we could understand basic instruction and could hold a tool in our hands, haha. And my dad was just a barber and owned a barber shop, but he was a cool guy. The most "handy" thing I did with him was we filled a pothole once in front of his shop, hahahaha.

Thank you so much for your excellent videos. I always been a diy'er but you have brought me to a whole different level. I recently remodeled my daughter's kitchen and after watching most of your videos it went smoothly from the laminate flooring to the cabinets and counter tops. Your tips on using the laser level were invaluable in doing the subway tile back splash. It was the first tile job I ever did and it turned out perfectly. Thanks again.

What do you think of gelling powder that is designed for this task? You basically drain the water and then mix it in with whatever is remaining to for a jello like solid instead of a liquid.

Hi Bob, If I was going to go through all that trouble and investment I would spend another 100 bucks a room and install vinyl plank. Cheers! It has a much better wear layer and will seriously outperform the peel and stick.

Great video, of course. Why drain the other taps in other parts of the house? If the water to the commode is off, isn't that the only concern? Liked the coffee cup vapor barrier. Never heard that one.
@HomeRenoVisionDIY
@HomeRenoVisionDIY 5 лет назад
In a lot of cases the shut off valve has not been closed in so long that the washer has dried out and the water will cause a flood. If you turn off the water first then you can double check and have time and access to remedy the situation if it occurs.
@stevenbastian3882
@stevenbastian3882 5 лет назад
This may seem too simple: After the plunger I use a old hand towel to mop up the water out of the toilet and squeeze it out in a bucket. Takes a minute or two then there is NO water in the toilet. The plastic bag is still a good idea because you don't know what the wax ring area around the bottom of the toilet looks like. It could be gross it you're removing the toilet itself for cause.

I have to pull toilets a lot and reinstall them. To empty the bowl I use a small water bottle cut in half and just scoop it out. For the tank I use a turkey baster and suck all the tank out. Takes a few minutes but works. I hate plumbing but a simple turkey baster helped me out a lot.

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY reinstall the toilet and then flush. The toilet bowl will fill up and after a minute, liquify and complete the flush. The method shown in the video works and that is obvious. Presenting additional option.
@nightc1
@nightc1 5 лет назад
That plunger was the wrong shape for that toilet and did nothing to move water. I prefer the bucket flush method for this. The tools you used on the cap and nuts served to damage them, which is dumb if you are only removing the toilet to paint, put down flooring, or just need it out of the way for another project and plan to reinstall it with the same caps and hardware. I could go on, but I'll leave it at that. Ultimately you got the job done if a bit sloppy. One thing I do in the rare case I'm completely replacing a toilet is to use a handtruck with a strap to wheel the toilet around and out of the house rather than use my back and risk injury. If I'm just moving it out of the way I'll use a flat furniture dolly and will roll it around with that.
