To remove the tiles from the back of the toilet you often need to remove the cistern. The toilet pan can be left in position which means that you can still flush the toilet by using a bucket of water if necessary. Brought to you by www.ultimatehan...

Thanks for putting this up. Just got my first house and the previous owner had left me a broken siphon. Using this i successfully replaced it :)

Interesting to see little national differences. In the US, I have never seen a toilet tank (you call them cisterns) attached to a toilet AND the wall. Very interesting installation. The whole thing looks lather sturdy.

Yes, I believe that you also use flapper valves, whereas we use syphons or flush valves. Thanks for the comment

Hi mate, question.I have a toilet vent pine that joins the waste pipe inside the toilet which then goes out externally and joins back to the waste pine that runs up onto the second floor and then finally vents out into the roof. I am putting in a new bathroom but because of that pipe joining inside the toilet room it is not allowing me to install a new toilet basin flush against the wall. Would I be able to cut the vent pipe flush with the wall and just push the toilet and use the main waste pipe since it runs up to the roof of the building as a vent?? many thanks

Great vid - is there a screw on cap / stop end that can be used without cutting the pipe? Many thanks

I found 1/2" brass plus will that do with PTFE tape, or do I need another size? Many thanks

A 15mm stop end should do the trick, as posted in link above- you only need to use the blank part of it. You can use some PTFE tape, but not always required.

If I'm just removing it to access the wall to clean mold off the wall, do I need to do the last step of capping off the pipe? I don't have a problem with the toilet itself. I only need to remove it to clean behind it on the wall.
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 2 года назад
No, you only need to cap it off, if you are leaving it for a few hours/days

Thanks. Due to a leak in my upstairs bathroom a unit came off the wall in my bathroom downstairs & smashed the Cistern, everything else is fine, is it possible to buy just the Cistern? Thanks

I doubt it, as they are normally sold with the pan, If you can find one, you would need to ensure that a new one would fit your toilet, as I'm not sure that they are interchangeable.

Hi, I have a question - what is the name of the metal part that the screws and bolts are screwed to? It's in between the cistern itself and the toilet seat. It can get rusty!
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 8 лет назад
Hi, its called a close coupling kit. They are widely available, you can even get them on ebay- fave.co/29oY4zx
