►The cabin air filter might seem like an insignificant part of your car, but it plays a huge role in making sure your Volvo P3 is being supplied fresh air to the cabin. Due to exhaust gases coming from the vehicle in front, the air at the center of the roadway is up to six times more polluted than at the side of the road. With the innovative CareMetix cabin filter, the vehicle cabin remains almost entirely free of fine particulates, tire debris, brake dust, and exhaust gases. The S5 broadband technology also protects against micro-particulates and diesel soot-all of which helps to preserve the sensitive components in the HVAC system from premature wear.
There may be more steps than a traditional cabin filter replacement in this DIY, but our Volvo Catalog Manager, Adam Goral, is here to walk you through the steps needed. While he's at it, he goes through some tricks along the way like removing the ECU housing and some fuse boxes to allow for easier access during the job.

If you know what you're doing changing the filter takes 3 minutes. 1st you need to pull back the carpet on the floor to give you access to the fuse box and then just feel for the tab above the box or rip it out and pull it out of its slot and set it aside, it won't break if you grab it firmly. That gives enough space to get the filter cover open and rip the old filter out. You then need to roll up the new filter and kinda tuck it under the dash where the fuse box was and just get it to enter the filter slot on one end and unravel the roll into there. Then just put the lid on, smack the fuse box on and put the carpet back and boom, you didn't need to disassembe half the car!

According to info from VIDA and my own experience, there is no need to take out glove box as well as cem, you shall only take electrical thingy next to pollen filter cover. Take the cover out, gently take the filter out, hoover the filter compartment, insert gently new filter , arrow MUST be facing towards rear of vehicle, put back electrical thingy. carpet, courtesy light bar and done.

I've done this job multiple times and removing the ECU is not required. I don't think I removed the glove box either. IMO messing with the ECU adds unnecessary risk to the the job. The cabin filter is also flexible...after you remove the old filter, you can feed the new filter in by bending it. Easy. I agree with all the negative comments regarding Volvo engineering.

Well I got scared watching this, so I tried to change the cabin air filter without removing the glove box and all these extra electrical boxes. There is no doubt that by removing all this like you did it will be easiest to change the filter. But it is possible just by taking of the first cover and then the rele box thing. But you have to twist and find a way for the filter to get it in witch was tricky. So I do not even know if I recommend my way so much, but it worked! :)

Done it coutless times and it takes 30 minutes only. Also you don't need to disconnect the battery. It's useless to do it as you will not be removing all those modules.

Watched this video in complete disbelief. You dont have to remove the damn glovebox or any of the electrical components except for the fusebox to gain access. But if you want more work sure, follow this.

Just bought a 2010 XC60. What? Seriously? It takes that much to change a cabin filter? I just changed it on my Honda - open the glove box, squeeze the sides to drop the box, unsnap the damper, pull out drawer, replace filter, slide drawer back, reattach damper, and close the glove box door. It literally takes 2 minutes and no tools. Who at Volvo thought this is a great design? What is wrong with these Volvo engineers?
